It was way back in 2011 when RPS last covered Project Stealth, and even then Jim was commenting on how the previous video was released in 2009. That’s a long time for a game to make no visible progress. This should have been on my PC yearrrrrs ago. The promise is there, but they’ve yet to deliver the re-imagining of Splinter Cell’s Spy Vs Merc multiplayer mode that the original project was set-up to be. Thanks to an anonymous tip, written in invisible ink, on an exploding microfilm, I can tell you they’re still alive. The website has relaunched, with a few new screens and some information about where the game’s been all this time. … [visit site to read more]

Overall, it is a fun game that Wii U owners should enjoy, even if you’re new to the series. It managed to convince me and it just might convince you.

Splinter Cell: Blacklist

- less than 350k sold
- 70% sold on 360
- 1.6% sold on Wii U

The game is being considered a sales bomb all around, but the Wii U only moving 1.6% is not a good sign. Will Watch_Dogs do better, and can Rayman's performance show that Wii U fans will support third parties? Thanks to Dim for the heads up!

Splinter Cell is one of those series that suffers through repetition. There are so many of the buggers, the most recent being the borderline-psychotic Conviction, that only the die-hard keep track, and to everyone else it’s one amorphous blob of banjo-legged throat-slitting. But Blacklist is far more than a production-line piece of gristle. It’s not merely an exemplary slice of, forgive the oxymoron, action-stealth – but also contains the best Aliens game in years.

No you didn’t misread that, so hit the jump and find out why.(more…)

A portion of an NWR review...

In the end, Splinter Cell: Blacklist is a very uneven package. On one hand, the gameplay is still solid and satisfying, and the campaign keeps missions feeling fresh with a constantly shifting set of objectives. On the other hand, the issues with the cutscenes make the story difficult to follow, and gives the entire package a rushed feel.

A lack of any such mandatory texture pack install on the Wii U version has other repercussions. Loading times are noticeably longer on Nintendo's platform, where if we select "skip" at the earliest opportunity during the initial briefing video, it takes the optical drive one minute 24 seconds to fully stream the prologue level and let us cut to the gameplay. This demands patience from players just itching to get to the action, and by comparison the PS3 takes just 22 seconds to load the very same mission, while the 360 clocks in at 24 seconds with its optional install.

Sam Fisher is on the phone with his daughter. He's talking about his feelings. He's telling her he worries about her. "See," the game says, "This is not just another technobabble Tom Clancy military gunfest. This game has heart." Sam hangs up the phone, ready to go to… to somewhere in the Middle East and fight… some terrorist dudes about… something. Oh, damn it all. Read more...

Ubisoft has taken the best of Splinter Cell and packaged it in a great game that represents a new start for the series. If you love Splinter Cell, don't be afraid of a purchase.

The good news is, if you're up for some cooperative stealth and mercenary antics, Splinter Cell: Blacklist is right up your alley. If all you desire is more Sam Fisher action, however, you may come away feeling a little shortchanged.
