I want to spend more time with these characters in this world, so as TT Games' tentative toe in the waters of original creations, Lego City Undercover is a resounding success.

Wii U sales hit a low in January and February this year, according to the latest NPD data. Nintendo's console sold just 57,000 units in January, managing to up that number to 64,000 in February. This is worse than any recorded week for the current-generation consoles (Wii, Xbox 360 and PS3). The Xbox was top of the hardware chart with 302,000.

LEGO City Undercover is the first big game to come out for the Wii U this year, and I think it is a must-play for anyone who already has the console, and stands well alongside other games as one of the strongest parts of the system’s library to date, and probably in the foreseeable future.

There are technical cracks in its brickwork, but in combining the familiar constructs of the LEGO video games with an original story, huge amounts of humour and a ridiculous number of things to collect or discover, LEGO City Undercover proves that LEGO titles can be blockbusters without a big licence.

This is part of a LEGO City Undercover review from Eurogamer...

It may not have a big-name sci-fi or fantasy licence to hang its hat on, then, but it turns out Traveller's Tales has itself been working undercover for a while on that front, lurking behind the smokescreens of Gotham City and the galaxy far away as it evolved into an accomplished developer capable of charming players with a mixture of great writing, twinkling level design and laudable values that keep you coming back regardless. Lego City Undercover isn't ceaselessly brilliant - open-world games seldom are - but it's a fantastic example of what makes Traveller's Tales and TT Fusion such special developers, and the worst I can say is that it's occasionally only fun. And you know what? I'll take that wherever I can find it.
