Just temper your expectations if you’re riding off the previous release. It’s about the same and adds little that may interest you, so your mileage is definitely going to vary. All in all, a great pickup for action fans and Batfans alike.

If you have not yet traveled the streets of Arkham City, this version should make a fine introduction; the GamePad just doesn’t offer enough benefits to warrant a purchase for second playthroughs. A few technical bugs aside, Batman: Arkham City Armored Edition is a great port of one of last year’s great games.

I fired up Batman: Arkham City Game of the Year Edition as a comparison and the game feels smoother on Xbox 360. The game doesn’t have huge framerate drops or anything that makes it unplayable, but animation flows better in the Game of the Year Edition. If you already own that, there’s isn’t much new in Armored Edition.

It took things that already worked perfectly and shook them until they cracked. Not shattered completely, but undoubtedly broken, just a little bit. If you only own Nintendo systems and love Batman, this remains a very worthy purchase, one that will give your hours of crimefighting enjoyment. If you've already played Arkham City, however, you'll be better off leaving it, because you already experienced the definitive version.

- while in combat, energy is stored within the sui
- at a certain level, this is released to activate B.A.T. mode
- B.A.T. mode is for boosting your attack and defense
- use the GamePad to check out your objectives or give the map a quick glance
- set custom waypoints by tapping on the GamePad’s screen
- also use the GamePad for changing out weapons, checking out character bios, or using sonar to locate enemies and hidden Riddler Trophies
- gadgets will now feature “enhanced” GamePad support
- Explosive gel and the remote controlled batarang can be controlled using the GamePad
- batarang can be directed using gyro controls
- explosive gel can be detonated in any order or all at once using the touchscreen
