Say kid, how do you fancy being a YouTube sensation, a real livestream Liberace? “B-but where would I even start?” you ask, eyes wide with hope. A new Humble Weekly Sale offers almost everything you need to become an Internet megastar, minus the hardware and a dreadful persona.
Curated by ‘PewDiePie’ (he has YouTube’s most-subscribed channel, don’t you know?) the bundle packs a few games the exhausting manbaby personality has wailed obscenities over, including Surgeon Simulator 2013, Garry’s Mod, and State of Decay.

Hey everyone. Greg here from DrinkBox, where we’ve been locked away in our studio hiding from the harsh Canadian winter and dreaming of hot sun, sandy deserts, and bandanna-clad cacti. We’re excited to finally announce we’ve been working on a new version of Guacamelee for PS4 — the Super Turbo Championship Edition!
If you haven’t played Guacamelee before, we’re talking about a Metroidvania, brawling platformer where you play as a Luchador that harnesses the powers of a legendary mask, two meaty fists, and an arsenal of wrestling moves to battle an evil army of the undead. But did you also know you can turn into a chicken? And nothing hinders the forces of darkness more than being pecked in the knee by angry poultry.
If you have played before, you may be wondering “What makes this Edition so super? So turbo? Or so championship…py?” For starters, let’s chat about new powers.
First up — INTENSO! (When you say it, picture you’re a soccer announcer screaming “GOOOOOOAL” into a microphone. It works. Try it.) Pummel baddies into bone meal to fill your combo meter, then unleash INTENSO for a brief (but highly satisfying) boost to the damage and speed of your attacks, as well as your movement.
Save it for when you’re almost down for the count and explode groups of enemies into festive showers of boney fireworks, or trigger it as soon as it’s charged to blaze through areas demolishing solo bad guys.
Still hungry? Everything’s better fresh, so we’ve also polished up the combat and added some upgrades, expanded Juan’s story with two brand-new, huge levels, and added a three-headed, one-man Mariachi-band boss — plus a new class of Elite enemies.
Guacamelee! Super Turbo Championship Edition comes out for PS4 this year.
Another Humble Indie Bundle? What a strange turn of events. I thought for sure that Humble was going to suddenly and inexplicably shut down their massively successful enterprise this time around. I mean, they’re on Humble Indie Bundle 11 now. What a gross number. Ten – nay, X – was so svelte, so confident. It plucked the olive from life’s martini glass just so, and we all just wanted its gaze to fall on us for a single precious second. So seriously, what’s even the point of having more Humble Bundles? Oh, right: amazing games and charity and stuff. This time around, the star-studded lineup includes Guacamelee, Monaco, Antichamber, and my personal favorite puzzler of 2013, The Swapper.

2013 was an amazing year for videogames, and an amazing year for DrinkBox Studios. The critical and commercial response to Guacamelee! has been staggering and humbling. To celebrate, we’re releasing the Guacamelee! Bundle Fantástico which includes:
Only 5 dollars more than the game itself! 5 dollars?! I’m buying 10 copies RIGHT NOW.
Wait… what’s Guacamelee?A modern Metroid-vania style action-platformer-brawler set in a magical Mexican inspired world. Featuring beautiful graphics, non-stop fighting action, multi-dimensional platforming and 2 player co-op. Some people say that it’s one of the top digital releases in 2013. Watch the launch trailer here. I’m incredibly jealous that you’ll get to play it for the first time.
I already own Guacamelee!Thank you so much! While this bundle isn’t meant for you, know that we love you.
El Diablo’s Domain17 trials set inside the office tower of the devil. Each trial has a different goal – race against the clock, perform a huge combo, fight without dodging, etc. Player’s will need to think differently and develop new strategies to overcome each unique challenge. The flexible and the successful are rewarded with medals leading to new costumes and finally… respect.
Costume Pack DLC3 costumes that not only change how you look – but how you play! Can you finish the game with infinite stamina (and no health orbs)? Can you finish the game with weaker throws (but extra damaging punches/kicks)? Those brave enough to conquer the game while looking more ridiculous than usual will be rewarded with Trophies.
Official Game Soundtrack30 re-mastered tracks (over an hour of original music) plus four additional remixes not heard in the game. Rom Di Prisco and Peter Chapman’s genre defying soundtrack expertly marries mariachi with electronica. Trumpets soar above atmospheric synths, while Spanish guitars accompany electric beats. Don’t forget – you can copy the soundtrack to your computer!
3 Themes and 10 AvatarsThe smoothly animated dynamic theme, and other gorgeous static themes add some spice to your lonely XMB. The avatars ensure your online profile will never look better, or ever get dull.
To recap, for 5 dollars more you get the El Diablo’s Domain, Costume Pack, Official Game Soundtrack, all 3 themes and 10 favorite avatars. Even the harshest critics are impressed!
Guacamelee: Gold Edition has been out since before the stars were born, so it’s really about time we let you know Wot One Of Us Thinks. The 2D, side-scrolling Metroidvania is a cut above the rest, a shining example of the form. And also a damned good example of how boss fights can really spoil things. Here’s wot I think:

Are you ready to be positively buried under amazing games? Well too bad. Games are largely distributed via non-physical means now, and that’s a weird thing to do with them anyway. Take your sick, fetishistic disc orgies somewhere else. (Note: RPS does not actually discriminate against fetishes. Just physical media.) There are, however, a lot of brand new, positively excellent games suddenly populating our hobby’s infinitely expanding sea, and you should really just probably play all of them. I quite liked what I played of Papers, Please, the consolefolk enjoyed Guacamelee, and everybody with air in their lungs and a beating heart in their chest loves Spelunky.

RPS Headline Generatron 5000, are you taking side jobs again? We agreed to let bygones be bygones after those puntastic Leviathan: Warships ads, but come on: Guacamelee? You’re under contract, and you didn’t think we’d notice your obvious handiwork there? This is a heinous betrayal of our trust, and to make matters worse, I can’t even come up with a pun to top it in our headline for the announcement of Guacamelee’s PC version. Heh, top it. As one might some form of snack food with guacamole. ARGH THAT WAS TERRIBLE SEE WHAT YOU’VE MADE ME DO.

It’s been two months since Guacamelee launched on PS3 and PS Vita. Thousands of you have uppercutted, slammed, and derped your way through the evil forces of Calaca onto our leaderboards.
Hopefully the blisters on your thumbs have healed enough so you can enjoy the DLC we’re releasing tomorrow. New costumes! New Trophies! And at only $1.99, you could buy it twice and it’s still cheaper than your favorite premium coffee…
First up: the Identity Swap costumes, starring Juanita or Tostado! (Tostado is PS3 only.)
Juanita wears blue tights held up by a championship belt, and a tank top with a flaming, flying heart logo on it. Tostado (not to be confused with Tostada), wears matching pink shpants and luchador mask, and has dead bandaged-up blue skin. These two deal extra damage with punches/kicks, but have weaker throws. You’ll get a new ‘Heroine-ism’ trophy when you defeat Calaca with Juanita.
Have you ever wanted to run around wearing a chicken suit, either at school, at work, or at your local mall, just because? The Pollo Luchador costume lets you do just that. Play as a giant chicken luchador in the comfort of your own living room. Or with a PlayStation Vita, you can be a giant chicken at school, at work, or even at your local mall. This costume is so realistic, that giant chickens found all over Guacamelee will think you’re one of them. You’ll have to find all of the green-sombrero-wearing giant chickens to earn the ‘Greetings, Fellow Chicken’ trophy.
While wearing the chicken costume, the player will regenerate health over time without having to collect health orbs. Perfect for those areas where you need more help than a busted up barrel can offer. And when you use your Pollo Power, you turn into an egg that can run around, giving you valuable insight into the question ‘Which came first?’ (Note: also the name of one of the new trophies!)
Lastly, when in Rome, if you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em (wait, is that right?). Well, even if you aren’t in Rome and can beat them, beat them in style with your new Skeleton costume. You won’t break a sweat as a Skeleton since you’ll have no skin and infinite stamina! Back in my day, we didn’t need infinite stamina to finish Guacamelee!. Unfortunately, health orbs will have no effect on you. Don’t ask why, it’s just science. Try and get through the third column in the Caverna del Pollo without healing for a shiny new gold trophy!
In all, that’s three new costumes for Juan and Tostada, and six new trophies for $1.99 in the PlayStation Network Store tomorrow. Or access the PSN store in-game by going to any autosave/store altar that asks you if you “wants the stuffs” because it “gots the stuffs” (stuffs = DLC). Hope you like it!
Players control an angel who must raise and train a hero. As the world changes before their eyes, they must seek out the truth and bring peace to the land.

Hey, all! I’m extra excited to announce that Guacamelee! comes out today on PS3 and PS Vita via PSN. We’re releasing the game as part of the Spring Fever promotion: $14.99 will get you both the PS3 and PS Vita versions, with a 20% discount for PlayStation Plus members. Take a look…
Still there? Then allow me to add that Guacamelee! is a metroid-vania style brawler that supports Cross-Buy, Cross-Save, Cross-Control, has a precious Platinum trophy, and comes complete with rapid punching action.
Punch, punch, punch! Speaking of which, you may now be saying, “Hey guy, what’s up with all of the punch talk?”
Well, when we started making Guacamelee! we knew we wanted to include punching, but not just ordinary punching. We built a proof-of-concept demo, a video of which I have included below for your approval.
As you can see, we had blocking, we had holds, and we had charge-up moves. You’ll be interested to know that we now have none of those things! Why, you ask? Turns out that stuff slows down the pace of exploring an open world game, and like my wife always says, pacing is everything! But now I’ve disappointed you, so let me tell you what we do have:
Punch, Punch, Kick, Punch, Pose
Like a graceful cabbage, the Luchador Roll screams “style!”
An explosion of color… into the face
Add that all up (punching, rolling, throwing, overlapping worlds, special moves and aura-shields) and I hope you’ll agree that Guacamelee! is the Number-1 Mexican-Themed Co-op Multiplayer Dimension-Swapping Metroid-vania Beat-em-up Platformer of the season. Hmmm?
With winter finally coming to an end, it’s time to celebrate the changing of the seasons with our annual Spring Fever promotion on PlayStation Network!
We’re championing independent developers this year, with a new indie title coming each week. You may have noticed during GDC that we are focusing on bringing the best independent games to PSN, and we’re happy to reinforce our dedication to indie developers with this year’s Spring Fever. Each week during the month of April, we will bring a gaming experience from noteworthy independent developers, such as DrinkBox Studios and Frima Studio. Additionally, each title features Cross-Buy functionality for PS3 and PS Vita, and PlayStation Plus members get at least 20% off each title during launch week!
Spring Fever also offers sales on a number of games and add-ons from popular franchises each week, as well as some great deals on movies themed to each week’s sale, which you’ll learn more about in the PlayStation Store Update posts each Tuesday.
Spring Fever 2013 Date Game Title Normal Price PS Plus Price 4/9 Guacamelee! $14.99 $11.99 4/16 Dragon Fantasy Book I $9.99 $7.99 4/23 Thomas Was Alone $9.99 $7.99 4/30 Zombie Tycoon 2 $9.99 FreeCheck back each Tuesday for more info about that week’s releases. Let us know which indie games you’ll be downloading in the comments, and enjoy this year’s Spring Fever!
We’re excited to finally announce our launch date and pricing details for Guacamelee! The game will be released on April 9th in the Americas, and will support Cross-Buy for $14.99. This means you buy the game once and get both the PS3 and PS Vita versions. And that’s not all… there’s also a Platinum Trophy!
With GDC being this week, and the IGF award nomination for “Excellence in Visual Art,” we also thought it would be cool to share some early concept art and video footage of the game, so that you can see for yourself how much things have changed. As you can see, Guacamelee! has really come a long way visually since its inception.
We began working on Guacamelee! in February of 2011. For the first two months, the game existed solely as a PowerPoint presentation and some concept art. Here’s the very first screenshot mock-up of the game from that presentation:
We brought these materials and another game idea with us to GDC to gauge publisher interest in the two titles. Guacamelee! was clearly the more popular of the two ideas, and after returning from GDC we spent some time making a prototype to test out how the combat would work, and also took some time to make a “Target Gameplay” video in Flash:
This video was shown to publishers at E3 in 2011, and was also used as part of the materials that helped us get the Canada Media Fund award and actually have the funding necessary to make the game. You can see that most of the initial ideas for the game’s design have made it all the way through to the final product, with one notable exception being the “World of Nightmares”.
Since then, we’ve worked hard on pushing the game much further visually (going through about four style revisions), which can clearly be seen by comparing to our latest trailer, which you can see at the top of this post!
If you’re going to be at GDC, make sure to stop by the IGF Pavilion and say “Hi” to two of our amazing artists; our Art Director Steph, and animator, Augusto. Without them, Guacamelee! would not look as great as it does!
Itching to play The Last of Us? Heading to Boston next week? Be one of the first to go hands-on with the game at PAX East! Gameplay demos will be happening in a custom-designed setting modeled after one of the game’s locales. What’s more, the demo itself is set in Boston, after the city has been decimated by the Cordyceps infection. Hands-on time is limited for each player, but if you manage to reach the end of the demo you’ll be rewarded with one of our tension bricks (that we’ve playfully named Brock).
If you go hands-on with the demo, you’ll also receive one of these collectible t-shirts, available in male and female sizes.
Additionally, Dark Horse Comics has provided us with 250 of a limited run of 500 posters featuring cover art from The Last of Us: American Dreams issue #2.
Supplies are limited for all items and when they’re gone, they’re gone. If you want to get your hands on this extremely unique and limited memorabilia, stop by the PlayStation booth and be one of the first to play The Last of Us.
The world of Tearaway will also be at PAX East (booth 1193). Media Molecule will be there, and they want to reward everyone who visits with papery treasures! Complete simple challenges to collect buttons, shirts and papercraft items. You’ll also get a chance to meet the team behind the game and see some Tearaway papercraft concept art.
And, lastly, many titles from our PSN catalog will also have a presence at PAX East. Sportsfriends (one of our upcoming Pub Fund games) will be there — check out the panel, or see if you’ve got the moves to win the official Johann Sebastian Joust tournament!
DrinkBox Studio will have Guacamelee! (another upcoming Pub Fund game) for PS3 and PS Vita playable in the IndieMegaBooth, and Muteki will also be there demoing Dragon Fantasy Book 1 and Book 2 for PS3 and PS Vita (you guessed it — a Pub Fund game). Don’t miss the Do JRPGs Really Still Matter? panel, featuring Adam Rippon of Muteki.
Back in their own booths, Iron Galaxy will have DiveKick playable on PS3 and PS Vita, and FRIMA Studio will have Nun Attack on PS Vita and Zombie Tycoon II on PS3 and Vita.
Are you heading to PAX East this year? What are you going to play first?
