Deponia brings slapstick adventure to PS3 this summer

German developer Daedalic Entertainment has revealed plans to bring Deponia, the first entry in a trilogy of the same name, to the PlayStation 3 later this year.

While the basic point and click gameplay of the computer game will remain intact in the PlayStation 3 incarnation of Deponia, this new version of the game gives players direct control over protagonist Rufus as he becomes embroiled in a wacky case of mistaken identity. Daedalic describes Deponia as a "fast-paced comedy of errors and one of the most unusual love stories in gaming history" while citing Douglas Adams and Terry Pratchett as inspirations for the game's offbeat humor.

So far there's no word on when exactly Deponia might reach Sony's console, nor any official price point for the game. Steam currently lists the PC version of the game at $20, though there's no guarantee its PS3 counterpart will follow the same pricing scheme. [Image: Daedalic Entertainment]

Each Monday, Chris Livingston visits an early access game and reports back with stories about whatever he finds inside. This week, virtual arcade management in Arcadecraft.

As kid in the 1980′s, I gazed with envy at a few adults who seemed to have the best jobs ever. The ice-cream man: he could eat all the ice cream he wanted! The ambulance driver: he could drive really fast whenever he wanted! Most of all, the guy who ran the arcade. I mean, we had a filthy belly-sack full of quarters. Probably a hundred dollars in quarters. He probably lived in a mansion. The 80′s may be long gone, but that dream job is finally mine. … [visit site to read more]

XSEED says no physical Senran Kagura Burst in the states, but retail could happen with future Senran Kagura titles

The following responses come from XSEED's Facebook page...

On Senran Kagura Burst seeing a limited retail release in the states

“Unfortunately, no. Once a title is released as digital-only, we really can’t go back and make a physical version. Good news is that if a digital-only title is successful enough, it greatly helps the chances of a future iteration of that series getting a physical release.

For all the people that supported Burst with an eShop purchase, we really appreciate it. The ‘no package no buy’ reasoning really doesn’t work because in this case the eShop release could be considered almost a ‘proof of concept’ where we prove to the retailers (and ourselves) that there’s a market for this series, which in turn gives us much more clout when trying to convince retailers to stock a physical release in the future because we have hard eShop sales numbers to prove it can sell.”

John’s at GDC, so when I was looking for a comment on The Blackwell Epiphany trailer, I thrust the RPS Truthdaphone underneath Adam’s nose, demanding to know if he was excited. He responded with: “I love the headbutt on the cop. Who says point and click games aren’t bad-ass?” Adam is from Manchester.

The Truthdaphone registered 12, so he’s not lying. And I’m not surprised: it’s carefully plotted, keenly written, idea-driven, and beautifully animated bad-assery as well. The conclusion to the venerable adventure series about a medium solving spiritual problems with the help of a Jazz-era ghost. Naughty-donkey trailer beckons. … [visit site to read more]

A portion of a C3 review...

The simple nature of the gameplay means that the overall enjoyment gained from it heavily depends on one's type of humour. That said, those who are intrigued by the concept, and into the kind of jokes this game provides, will have a great time playing through it.

Looks like Little Inferno did quite well for itself. Across the 6 platforms it was available, the title managed to rack in total sales of 1 million units. Nice to know the Wii U played a part in that total.

This information comes from a feature where Tomorrow Corporation's Kyle Gray discussed just how much a mess the game's development was. The project actually became more focused when the Wii U was announced, as that gave Tomorrow Corp a platform to aim for and hit at launch.

Hit ESC on the main menu of Running With Rifles and the words will melt away, leaving your character free to run around the screen. I like that. There is whimsy in this war. Running With Rifles is a top-down soldiererer thing inspired by Cannon Fodder, set in large maps with dynamically throbbing battles. You are a tiny man in a big war, and it’s oh-so cute. There’s a cartoonish edge to the look that pops up speech bubbles as the NPCs shout ‘OMG Grenade!’, and despite the hundreds of bloody deaths that smears the screen, it never fails to raise a smile. I am smiling now because it’s on Steam Early Access, it’s relatively cheap, and there’s a trailer below. … [visit site to read more]

Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare expands with free 'Garden Variety' DLC

PopCap's whimsical third-person shooter Plants vs Zombies: Garden Warfare will pick up a host of new abilities and a new gameplay mode later this week thanks to the freshly-announced "Garden Variety" downloadable content pack.

The highlight of the pack is the new "Gnome Bomb" game mode, which centers on an explosive garden gnome statue. Both the plants and their undead counterparts will attempt to be the first team to reach this ornamental explosive, and once a team has captured the device they must make their way to one of three bomb points where the gnome will detonate. Additionally, the DLC includes three new ability upgrades for each character class, a new map, new types of zombies and "hundreds" of new character customization options.

The Garden Variety DLC pack is slated to become available on March 18 for both the Xbox 360 and Xbox One versions of Plants vs Zombies: Garden Warfare. Regardless of platform, the addition will be available for free. [Image: EA]
