Crytek's partnership with DeNA has finally borne fruit in the form of The Collectables, a new iOS tactical strategy game powered by the famed CryENGINE.

If you're wondering about the title, it's a play on both Sylvester Stallone's The Expendables and the game's collectible card game nature. Players will assemble a squad of hardened military types who must battle foes using a traditional, turn-based interface, though they'll be aided in combat by upgrades that appear in the form of collectible cards. The real coup for the game though, is the inclusion of CryENGINE technology, which renders The Collectables a "visually stunning and explosive gameplay experience that pushes the boundaries of what can be achieved on mobile devices," according to Crytek.

Though currently exclusive to iOS, The Collectables will soon grace Android devices as well. Those eager for that incarnation of the strategy game can register for information on its release, and by doing so will earn an exclusive, in-game character. [Image: Crytek]

Framed is a game for comic fans, noir aficionados, puzzle gurus and lovers of story. It's minimalistic; the characters are silhouettes with details in white, such as ties and flowers, and there's absolutely no text. Gameplay involves sliding frames of a comic around to create the best possible scenario for mysterious, trench-coated characters as they attempt to outrun and outsmart the police force in a big city.

It's largely a puzzle game - move one panel to the wrong spot and the police officer in that frame will see your character running and shoot him in the face. Place a panel of a hallway in front of that, and your character runs up behind the cop, knocking him out with the briefcase he perpetually carries.

The briefcase is a mystery. It changes hands between at least two characters, one man and one woman (both wearing trench coats), and it apparently holds something valuable. Framed comes from Australian studio Loveshack, and designer Joshua Boggs tells Joystiq that the game includes two main elements: puzzle and story.

Hello, Bucket-eers! Today, I’m writing in from sunny Singapore where the food is great and people keep tripping over my extension cord. Also, a word of advice for those positioned for an imminent trip somewhere foreign: never pick a cafe parked next to a gaming memorabilia store. The effect such places have on your wallet is positively magnetic, I tell you. Magnetic. Because I’m typing this in between trying to catch my laptop each time someone tugs on the wire, today’s introduction will be short, frantic and slightly rambly. Our fuzzy Companion Cube of the day is from one Alex F. Enjoy the bargains. I’m going to finish up before someone sends my poor Fenris flying.

I have a piece of advice for the narrator of this Murdered: Soul Suspect trailer: follow-up with any questions you might have after your mother starts monologuing in vague terms about potential danger. She’s talking about unseen things and and saying stuff like: “There’s something out there,” without elaborating. Why not sit down with her and ask for specifics? What sort of family is this? My mum used stare sadly out of the window and tell me there was a slate that needed to be wiped clean or we’d all suffer from poverty and sickness, and when I pressed her she’d tell me to do the dishes or I wouldn’t get my pocket money. It pays to ask questions, and in that case I got £5 to spend on sweets.

In the world of professional sports licensing, one of the more widely maligned situations is the exclusive NFL license held by Electronic Arts for home console games. That's just one aspect of sports licensing, as organizations that stand as players unions are also able to license out the images and likenesses of athletes within the union, and that's what the NFL Player's Association (NFLPA) is doing in a new contest.

From March 20 through April 20, NFL Players Inc, the licensing and marketing branch of the NFLPA, is accepting entries from both independent developers and established studios to determine the "next big thing in mobile gaming." The pro football players union will select three finalists, each given the opportunity to pitch their game idea to the NFL Players Inc (NFLPI) executive board. The winner will be granted the NFLPA license for the 2014-2015 NFL season for use on mobile devices, though the announcement does not indicate that the license is on an exclusive basis. The license covers NFLPI trademarks and the "names, likenesses, uniform numbers, photographs, voices, replica signatures, and biographical information of active NFL players." Of course, without the separate NFL license, developers won't be able to include team names and logos in their games.

Additionally, NFL Players Inc will put forth $10,000 to market the winning entry via its "Activate" promotion platform, which streamlines the endorsement process for athletes on social media. Those interested in entering the contest can fill out the submission form (PDF) on the NFLPA's website. [Image: NFL Players Association]

Dead or Alive 5 Ultimate will be adding more new faces to its roster, developer Team Ninja tweeted today. The fighters will be introduced into arcade versions of the game first, and come to consoles later.

Team Ninja also announced that the yet-to-be-revealed fighters will be grouped together as part of a "New Characters" set after all of them have made their way to DOA5 Ultimate Arcade, but that such a pack would not be available for at least six months.

Marie Rose, the newest fighter to the DOA universe, will be punching and kicking her way across PS3 on March 25, and Xbox 360 one day later. [Image: Tecmo Koei]
