CD Projekt, developers of The Witcher series and upcoming Cyberpunk 2077, are working on an unannounced mobile game. A company management report obtained and translated by Eurogamer states that the game is being developed in conjunction with an external partner, and is planned to launch this year.

It's not clear whether this mobile-focused project will be tied to the upcoming The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, the Witcher series as a whole, Cyberpunk 2077, or if it will be something else entirely. Eurogamer was told that an official announcement was coming "very soon," and that said announcement would also coincide with a beta launch. [Image: CD Projekt]

Developer Camouflaj's one-button stealth game, Republique, has been granted an International Mobile Gaming Award for the category of Excellence in Storytelling. To celebrate, Camouflaj is discounting the price of Republique by more than a third. The game, normally $4.99, is available on iTunes for $2.99 from now until March 27.

Ryan Payton, designer at Camouflaj, was quoted in a press release stating, "We set a high bar for ourselves with the first episode of Republique, so it feels great to see the public's positive response, especially in foreign markets. This is a great start for the franchise and our little independent studio."

Republique was successfully Kickstarted back in May 2012, with the first episode of the overall story released on December 19. Republique's second episode is expected to make a break for it this spring. [Image: Camouflaj]

Explore the wild, fight animals with your bear hands in Bear Simulator

The Second Amendment grants US citizens the right to bear arms, but a new game wants to grant them the right to bear arms. Bear Simulator by Farjay Studios aims to put an end to gaming's discrimination against our big, furry friends by letting you walk a mile in their shoes. Paws. Whatever. And only you can prevent forest fires help fund the game's development.

"It's quite clear the fat cats in Washington with their stove top hats and contemporary jazz music don't want us playing as bears," the game's Kickstarter page states. "It's about time to fight back against the tyranny." Yeah! Down with the system, man! You can use your bear-branded tote bags, t-shirts, in-game sunglasses, in-game squirrel companion, in-game rock and in-game adopted tree (all of which are backer rewards) to take it all back. Take it all back for the bears.

Honestly, we're not sure what else to say. The game is called Bear Simulator and hey, look at that, you eat trout, steal honey, punch butterflies, explore foggy ruins ... you know, bear stuff. Does a bear develop games in the woods? We don't know, we're not bears. But hey, it's not like we haven't been down this route before. The game is expected to launch on PC this November.

We've reached out to the only bear we know that can use Twitter about his thoughts on Bear Simulator, and will update if we hear back.

Update: The bear has informed Joystiq that he supports Bear Simulator, but also expresses a desire to see playable black bears, as well as rabbit skeletons. He also noted that the squirrel companion is "the most realistic aspect, speaking from my experiences as a bear." [Image: Farjay Studios]

Professor Layton Vs. Phoenix Wright - review

A portion of a GameSpot review...

Layton vs. Phoenix Wright is a long game--at least as long as a Professor Layton game and a Phoenix Wright game combined--and relatively little of it is genuine crossover. But that doesn't make it any less enjoyable. What is here is big, it's often silly, and it's sometimes unwieldy, but it's rarely anything less than engaging thanks to some great execution on tried-and-tested ideas.

Terraria tops 1.3 million mobile downloads

Terraria, Re-Logic's 2D sandbox adventure game, surpassed a combined 1.3 million full-game downloads on iOS and Android. The game first arrived on iOS in August 2013 and on Android in September. Additionally, publisher 505 Games announced that Terraria recently achieved one million downloads in total across Xbox 360, PS3 and PS Vita, the latter of which arrived in December.

Andrew Spinks, the creator of Terraria, first divulged plans for the game's sequel in October, but was careful to note that it wasn't in development at the time. Spinks later said he'd like to code Terraria 2 in a more portable language so he can bring the game to multiple platforms closer to its PC launch, though Nintendo's 3DS is likely not in the cards for the sequel.
