Time for me to relinquish GoNintendo control to NintenDaan for a few hours. I've got some errands to run! Daan is coming in to take things over a little bit after 6 PM East Coast time, and he'll be sticking here until about 10 PM. That's when I head back and pick up where he leaves off.

I hope you're all having a wonderful week thus far. Also, I have to say Happy Autism Awareness Month to everyone...otherwise Mom Brain would hurt me!

Mechanically, To Leave is a very simple game, requiring players to hop from one safe location to another, avoiding hazards along the way. What elevates it beyond those mechanics, at least in my very brief experience with it, is its bold art style and soundscape. A simple platformer becomes the story of a young man escaping from the misery of his life, desperately clinging to a door as it flies through a bizarre dream world. There's no telling if that will be enough to carry a full game, but it makes for a very good first impression (watch the trailer if you haven't already).

For Estefano Palacios, To Leave is much more than the sum of its parts. Palacios is creative director of Ecuadorian studio Freaky Creations and, for him, To Leave is a shot at earning respect for Latin American games and developers. To Leave is headed to PlayStation Vita and PlayStation 4 as part of an incubation program that Sony instituted to court Latin American developers. Palacios believes - and Sony agrees, it would seem - that the region deserves more recognition.

Speaking with Joystiq at GDC, Sony account manager Mike Foster, who is in charge of the incubation program, tells me it came to be in 2007. A member of Sony's developer support group, who happens to be Guatemalan, wanted to "explore the developer landscape in Latin America," says Foster, "because nobody really knows what's going on down there. It's quiet."

A portion of a Nintendo Life review...

To put it bluntly, I am in the Movie is almost entirely useless software. It’s not as completely broken as one might expect, but it fails to accomplish what it sets out to do. For an application designed for amateurs to edit video footage, it’s amazing to think how little effort was put into making it accessible to first time users.

This is the latest in the series of articles about the art technology of games, in collaboration with the particularly handsome Dead End Thrills.

A mindbending, mesh-distending life sim set in some vast alien abyss, Nowhere is awesome in the way Spore once was before it mutated into an existential Happy Meal. No such danger with this game, though, the husband-and-wife team of Leonard and Sylvia Ritter now deep into a project that’s happy, much like its shape-shifting ‘Nowherians’, to evolve naturally. Quite how it manages to map Maslow’s hierarchy of needs onto a universe full of amoeba people is just one of countless irresistible unknowns.

It’s a weird ecosystem, though, this modern crowdfunding. Almost every aspect of Nowhere’s development is exposed to its potential players – not least its developers who have to adapt to the demand for public alpha builds; competitive promo art; and their unique brand of trippy, nervy video newsletters. … [visit site to read more]

A portion of a Vooks review...

...the new additions, such as the group testimony and subsequent cross-examinations, are cleverly implemented gameplay mechanics that fit the game’s setting and narrative too. And while the ending is slightly disappointing – don’t let that put you off – Layton and Phoenix’s journey through Labyrinthia is filled with enough exciting twists and turns to make up for it.
