Joystiq Streams: A graveyard smash in Castlevania: Symphony of the Night

True story: Joystiq Streams was going to broadcast Shovel Knight, the pixel-y, Metroidvania-y, Mega Man-y game coming to Wii U, PC, and Mac this spring, with Yacht Club Games today. Unfortunately those plans fell through at the last minute, leaving the Streams crew desperately thirsty for 2D art and the exploration of interconnected, lushly animated environments. We crave double jumps and locked doors and wacky save rooms! Only one thing could possibly slake our thirst: Castlevania: Symphony of the Night.

Starting at 4PM EST on the Joystiq Twitch channel, Joystiq's Richard Mitchell will play Castlevania: Symphony of the Night from the beginning, right when Richter Belmont and Dracula are in the thick of Aaron Sorkin-style banter. Anthony John Agnello will hang in the chat, feeding your questions to him. Some other guests may join us as we play. Dracula's castle is unpredictable. Crazy things happen.

The new-generation high performance BR 189 comes from the stable of successful Euro Sprinter locomotives built by Siemens, and is now available for Train Simulator.

Classified as BR 189 by Deutsche Bahn, the Class is one of only a handful equipped with all four electric systems commonly used in mainland Europe and various light formations, making it capable of running on most of Europes rail network, including across Germany, Austria, Italy, Netherlands, Poland and Hungary. The Class was originally ordered by DB Cargo and is used primarily on freight operations with a top speed of 87mph (140 km/h).

Writing about Spirit is a rare pleasure, not only because it looks like a lovely riff on the same ideas that Sword & Sorcery EP lovingly explored, but also because it has a Kickstarter campaign which has already met its goal. And there’s a demo (Win/Mac). The pressure is off, although there are stretch goals, including the rather grand promise of a world double the size of that originally planned and an entire spiritual sequel. The player controls a man who has retired to a remote mountain village but he cannot rest. Beyond a nearby valley lies an ancient temple and he sets out on a journey to visit that temple. The journey may be spiritual. The temple may contain zombies.

The following comes from a Polygon interview with Mario Castañeda of Prismatic...

"We're getting a lot of support from fellow developers and it's giving us confidence that this game is something people would want to see. We're huge Nintendo fans, and we've been wanting to develop something for Wii U since we heard about it back in 2011. Wii U is the only thing that offers asymmetric gameplay right out of the box.

They're (Nintendo) really quite friendly in organizing things, if you just reach out to them. We don't want to jump ship from Nintendo, even when it seems like every triple-A developer is."

Dragon Quest X is yet to leave Japan. For all we know, it may stay there forever. What w know for sure is that the game has sold a million copies, as confirmed by Square-Enix. No details on platform breakdown, but I'm guessing Wii sold more than Wii U.

4cr: Once the main goal is reached, Dead Synchronicity is set to launch on PC and Mac. Have you considered releasing the game on consoles such as Wii U, PS4 or XBO?

FS: Right now we haven’t ruled out the option for porting the game to other platforms, especially to those that have a tactile interface, something we believe is ideal for adventure games. In fact, during the last couple of weeks we’ve received a ton of suggestions to port the game to the Wii U.

Our top priority right now is making sure the Kickstarter is a success so that we can develop the PC and Mac versions for 2014 (and Linux port will be our first “stretch goal” once we go over the $45,000 from the main goal).

After that, it will be ported to iPad in 2015, and we’ll see what happens next!
