I've come up with a concept for a game I would really, really, really like to make. I don't have any of the necessary skills to pull it off right now, but I'm willing to learn them.
This is basically my dream game. The perfect blend of everything I've come to love in games.
This game is built on three established genre pillars.
The first is character action. Bayonetta, Devil May Cry, God of War. Games in which you play a powerful, swift offensive juggernaut that can plow through anything but also fragile. They can be taken out with just a few hits, it's all about perfection of control.
The second is co-operative play, specifically of the asymetrical kind. I actually wrote an article about this for this not too long ago. Games like Left 4 Dead, really any game where the two opposing sides are purposefully differentiated. One side is zombies, extremely weak but fast and infinite. One side is survivors, much stronger but with limited resources and lives. Games that take a concept like that. Basically, any game where the objectives of each side are different as well as there capabilities.
The final genre is strategy. Games like StarCraft, something with a lot of micro managing. Really complex systems, the type of shit that only the most dedicated players can get into because there are just so many *crag*ing options.
Now combine those all together.
I'm talking about a four player cooperative character action game in which you fight a massive boss of epic proportions and strength.
Okay, nothing too new right?
But what if that boss was a player? What if an actual human player was controlling that thing? Sending out minions to halt your progress, queuing up attacks and targeting them in real time at human adversaries.
What if all the characters had customizable stats, classes, equipment? What if there was a character action game with not only cooperative multiplayer against a human being, but with an unlimited number of bosses?
It fixes the fundamental problem with all the games. In character action games you run out of content, but this has an unlimited number of giant monsters to slay. The problem of repetition with Left 4 Dead would be gone when the enemies you fight along the way are being picked by a human AI, a human Director. And best of all is the Strategy. It's something completely new. You aren't just leading an army against another. It's almost like tower defense, but still a completely different beast in its own right.
I dunno, I *crag*ing love this idea. I'd really love to make this. I'm trying to find out if something like this already exists, but I'm *crag*ing pumped just writing this down. It's *crag*ing complex and would take a shit load of work, but god damn if it doesn't sound *crag*ing amazing.
But yeah, thoughts?
