What is the most tragic event in human history in your opinion? Mine would be the destruction of the Alexander library that withheld most of the worlds knowledge in the early centuries of AD.

Mine would probably be when Ignaz Semmelweis saw that his wing of the hospital had a lot of dead patients. He figured it was because people weren't washing their hands or cleaning their surgery equipment. Other people were too lazy to and they tried to get rid of him. He died in a mental asylum. Many people died because they didn't wash their hands.
