#roundup After all these years of spelling Metroid a certain way, Nintendo and Team Ninja go and pull an Other M on us. How will the assembled video game critics handle this new consonant? More »

A portion of a G4 review… As the 11th game in the series, Other M is a bizarre collaboration between the Metroid series co-creator Yoshio Sakamoto and Team Ninja of Ninja Gaiden fame. Indeed, “odd pairings” becomes the common thread throughout the game and its clashing dualities extend to the storyline, control scheme and onscreen action. Full [...]

#screengrab This showed up on my doorstep this morning. Nice, vibrant print, but an abstract watercolor would have been cooler. More »

A portion of a GamePro review… A short yet memorable chapter in Samus Aran’s biography, Other M does an admirable job of blending elements of her past 2D adventures with those of her more recent 3D titles. It does misfire in several key areas, but it’s still a worthwhile addition to the Metroid canon. Even more [...]

A portion of an MTV review… “Metroid: Other M” is an authentic experience that will please many fans of the series. Unfortunately it is also fundamentally flawed in some potentially game-killing ways. If you can get past the occasional frustrations, there’s a lot of fun and fan service to be had.

A portion of a GB review… It may not fully nail every one of its ambitions, but Other M at least gets close on all of them. More importantly, it really feels like an honest-to-goodness Metroid game. Nintendo’s stingier than I would like in doling those out, and while I’d probably take whatever I could get [...]

A portion of a Dtoidi review… Other M simply doesn’t meet the high-quality standards fans have come to expect from not only the franchise, but from Nintendo’s routinely-spectacular first-party line-up.

A portion of a GI review… She’ll forever be trapped in my mind as a whiny, talkative child who is too willing to give up her freedom and too petulant to be likable. Metroid: Other M is the most disappointing Nintendo release in quite some time and a blemish that isn’t likely to be forgotten on [...]

A portion of an IGN review… …in the end, this is still an excellent experience with great, intense action and an engaging story that turns one of Nintendo’s beloved characters into something more than a kick-ass bounty hunter.

When I started playing Metroid: Other M, I didn't know what to make of it. Basic movement felt nothing like the previous games. The story was front and center. Samus talked a lot. The cutscenes were unskippable and initially intolerable.

As I became acclimated, I began to realize that the game wasn't that much of a departure for the series at all. In fact, the elements that make this feel like a Metroid game gave me a better idea of what it means to be a Metroid game.

German magazine Maniac has dished out its review to Metroid: Other M, and I don’t think the review score is as high as most people were hoping for. I don’t know how much credit you put into Maniac, but they’ve scored the game at 73%. We don’t have details on the review itself [...]

A portion of an Infendo review… Other M is a weird game. I don’t see it appealing to anyone other than hardcore Metroid fans. Also, I’m not sure the hardcore Metroid fans will enjoy Other M like some of the other games in the series. Some will, but I think the flaws in the game are [...]

- going into first-person mode is finicky - third-person combat is very smooth and effortless - bosses and mini-bosses tend to involve a lot of trial-and-error - lots of exploration - Nate Bihldorff (of Treehouse fame) recorded a placeholder voiceover for the tutorial, but they ended up being so impressed with his performance as a nasally scientist that they [...]
