The characters on HBO's new show Silicon Valley work in tech, and they clearly know a thing or two about video games. So when it comes time to articulate the pointlessness of one of their peers, they've got a pretty solid frame of reference to work with. Read more...

As long as this planet continues to spin, there will be a new Intriguing Kickstarter From Folks Who Used To Work On Major Triple-A Franchise X Of The Day. In this case, that Kickstarter is one for Epoch: Return, and the games that once – at least, in pieces, like so many tinker toys scattering from a bucket – emerged from developer Innate’s collective brain are Mass Effect and Dragon Age. But to be perfectly honest, Epoch doesn’t really bear much family resemblance to its distant BioWarian cousins. It takes place on a colossal, open planet that’s ripe for exploring, and you traverse it by way of high-flying momentum-based leaps that strike me as a midpoint between Mirror’s Edge and Tribes 2. It still looks rather floaty, insubstantial, and, well, early, but I definitely like the idea. Watch below.

Eight more games are on sale for 24 hours in today's Xbox 360 Ultimate sale, including a few big names from a few years back. If you missed them back in the day, Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, Lost Planet 2, and Darksiders 2 are all on offer, as are Arcade offerings Hell Yeah! and Fruit Ninja Kinect.

In terms of more recent games, there's an eclectic mix to choose from. For starters, you can rake in a half-price Farming Simulator at $15/£15/20 euros, or if you'd prefer something a little faster, F1 2013 is two-thirds off at $16.49/£13.19/21.44 euros.

Finally, we saw Soulcalibur 2 HD Online go on sale over on PSN recently, and the Xbox Games Store follows suit with a whopping 75 percent discount. That means you can pick up the re-released fighter for just $5/£4/5 euros.

Don't forget, there's a bunch of games staying discounted throughout the week. The full list of them is here, but today we'll point your eyes towards the original Mass Effect. BioWare's sci-fi RPG started us on a path that's left us with hours upon hours plunged into deep space shooting, negotiating, and wooing, and if you've somehow avoided it over the last six years or so, it's a steal at $3.74/£3/3.74 euros. Here she is, and doesn't she look adorable? This is Tali'Zorah, and that is indeed her entire full first name. She was born this weekend to a couple in North Carolina and yes, she is named for the Mass Effect character. Great characters are usually at their best when they're surprising us. A villain who is purely evil is never as interesting as a villain who sometimes expresses kindness. A killer with a code; a monster with a soft spot for kittens. Yet some video games this past generation just didn't seem to get that—they pushed us to play purely evil or purely good.Read more...

Sadly, Minecraft players on the Xbox 360 don't have access to the countless mods and texture packs available on the PC version. Well, now there's at least one interesting pack available, for $3.99. Seems a bit steep for some new textures, skins, and a small map, but I suppose it's better than not playing Minecraft as Commander Shepard. Read more...

‘Fess up, Mass Effect players: it was a big deal figuring out what your Shepard’s casual outfit was going to be, wasn’t it? Do you go with the fatigues/cargo pants look or the tunic-looking top? Yeah, that tunic always looked… weird. Honestly, a new limited-edition wave of Mass Effect outfits from Black Milk is a lot more stylish. Read more...

Mass Effect's Mako gets a bad rap from many folks, but really, its heart was in the right place. That, and the fact it looked badass, means it still has its fans today, enough to go to the trouble of making a cool little remote-controlled version. The RC Mako team have built this little vehicle that, in addition to looking like the "real" armoured personnel carrier/tank, functions like one too, with a working BB gun mounted atop that rotating turret. You can see it in action below. RC Mako [Facebook]

Anatomic Latex is a store that specialises in, well, latex cosplay gear. For those sci-fi and comic book characters whose outfits can't be matched with cloth and fabric. You'd think that would be an in for a cheap and pervy cash-in, something more "fetish" than "cosplay", but surprisingly, these guys take their craft real serious, and it has stunning results. Example? Their Mass Effect costumes are some of the best I've ever seen. The EDI outfit has her mechanical panels and joints actually engraved in the latex, and just like on the "real" thing, the orange and yellow strips light up. Their Kasumi outfit is also a work of art. If you head to their site you can see more of their costumes, including more Mass Effect (Miranda, Asari), Tron and Batman. Why would someone make a gif of a pizza Asari dancing on top of a pizza? You ask the wrong questions, my friend. The real question should be: what music would go best with this gif? Two picks from me. Let's start with the silly, almost too easy one: G I M M E P I Z Z A plus asari.gif. And then, since I'm a Drake fan, I had to go with Drake's "Practice." With the power of Gifsound, I encourage everyone to accompany this gif with a song of your choice in the comments. Have at it!
