8776635178_398154a608_z.jpg

The Best of PlayStation Network, Vol. 1 collects four diverse PSN exclusive games to give you a taste of what the PlayStation Store has to offer. If you haven’t had a chance to dive into PSN yet, these collections are a great place to start.

When Vikings Attack! 8284296041_d2372fa2b6.jpg

When Vikings Attack! is an energetic third person adventure featuring fast-paced battles pitting up to four co-operative players against the Viking hordes. You can also take on your friends in the “Versus” arenas in a 4-player battle royale.

Sound Shapes 8284295435_52cf95bbc7.jpg

Play through a unique campaign that fuses music and artwork into a classic 2D platformer, featuring artwork by Pixeljam, Capy, Superbrothers and more, with music by I Am Robot and Proud, Jim Guthrie and Deadmau5. Create your own unique musical levels with all of the campaign content and share with the world. Sound Shapes creates an ever-changing musical community for everyone to enjoy at home or on the go.

Tokyo Jungle 8284296367_e1280a2963.jpg

Tokyo Jungle has over 50 playable animals to choose from, unleash your inner beast to hunt your way to the top of Tokyo’s post-apocalyptic food chain. Whether in Story or Survival Mode, you never know where your next meal will come from or the dangers you’ll face, so be prepared for anything and everything. Forage through this desolate but dangerous city to complete story-based challenges using a variety of survival skills, from all-out attack to stealth. Beware– you are not the only animal out there hunting for survival!

Fat Princess

Fat Princess made her return last year in PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale. Now experience her original story in Fat Princess where you can choose from five distinct character classes and charge head first into battle. Upgrade your team and the castle defenses as you work with your team to save your princess. There’s a catch, though—the other team has been feeding her delicious cake, a treat she can’t resist, making her harder to escort back to your castle.

Best of PlayStation Network, Vol. 1 will be out on store shelves on June 25th for $39.99. That’s a savings of nearly $15 off the PlayStation Store price!

While you’re cruising through the Collections section, don’t forget to pick up Jak and Daxter Collection for your PlayStation Vita, ready to pick up in stores on June 18th for $29.99.

The hat of "Sony Mascot" has been worn by many, many different critters and folk since the days of Crash Bandicoot and, uh, Croc. In fact, Sony's stable of lovable household names is so fully stocked that they've decided to pit their creations against one another to determine who lives and who dies.

Okay so, that last part might be a little hyperbolic, but the rumor mill is operating at full capacity over Title Fight, a Super Smash Bros.-ish cross-franchise brawler reportedly in development at SuperBot Entertainment, according to The Paul Gale Network. If rumors are to be believed, the game will feature a cast of Sony-console specific characters like Nathan Drake, Sweet Tooth, Sly Cooper, that guy from Killzone and Fat Princess. Fights will take place in various Sony related locations such as Sandover Village or a golf course from Hot Shots Golf.

The gallery of images below, which shows Sweet Tooth, a blank female form that may or may not be Heavenly Sword's Nariko and a debug screen that mentions Kratos, were tweeted (and subsequently deleted) by SuperBot Entertainment's senior level designer Chris Molina. Apparently, this hullabaloo is also what that franchise-rich teaser trailer from September was all about, which would also indicate the inclusion of Parappa the Rapper, as well as a representative from FOXHOUND.

If all this pans out, Title Fight will be the latest in a long, proud history of SCEA-published fighting games like Battle Arena Toshinden and Cardinal Syn. We'll keep our ear to the ground for more as this story develops.

Today's update to the European PlayStation Store seems to be stuck in the past. There's a Fat Princess DLC bundle, the digital releases of Modnation Racers and Dragon Age: Origins, and the fifth installment of the Back to the Future adventure game series. We haven't played it yet, but based on the history of the franchise, there's probably a pretty good chance of getting literally stuck in the past.

It’s crazy to think our precious little princess is nearing her 2nd birthday already, so we figured a royal celebration in her honor was only appropriate.

5976310344_1d46fbe30d_z.jpg

We’re proud to celebrate this occasion by presenting a truly astounding bundle deal, offering up the Full Game (normally priced at $14.99), plus the Fat Roles DLC (originally $4.99), plus cakeloads of Fat Princess avatars for your PSN ID, and finally a brand-spanking NEW Dynamic Theme (valued at $2.99) all for the low, low price of $14.99, the price of the full game itself.

Grab it fast, since the Anniversary Bundle is available for a limited two-week time only, and the sale ends on August 9th.

Happy 2nd Birthday to Princess Plump and Princess Muffintop from the entire Fat Princess team!

Carbon Games is the new independent development house built by members of Titan Studios, creators of Fat Princess. Titan Studios, which was a subsidiary of Epic Games China, was "gracefully" shuttered a month ago.

"Everyone that is starting Carbon is from Titan, but it's only about half of what was left. We are just bringing over the core people at this time. We had some QA, which were really great people, but we can't add people just yet," Carbon Games founder James Green told Joystiq. "We had actually been winding down Titan gracefully for a while. The longterm plan has always been for Epic Games China to exist on their own. We were just in a support/advisory role, which is why we never followed up Fat Princess with anything."

Green tells Joystiq that Carbon is in a position where they are self-funded and can experiment. The focus is on smaller, accessible core titles. The initial games will be on PC so the Carbon team can "iterate and get player feedback faster and actually control the patching process." Their first project will not be another Fat Princess -- Green does say they'd like to return to that style in time, but the scope of such a title is bigger than what Carbon is currently working on.

The studio plans to begin publicly testing its first project later this year. Folks interested in helping with the process should keep an eye on the company's website.

If you're trying to play locally, then you just have them join in while you're in a match sort of like a lot of cooperative third-person games. If you're trying to just play with friends online you host a private game and have them join or vice versa. You know, common sense.

Titan Studios didn't wait too long after the launch of its multiplayer PSN title, Fat Princess, before it started teasing new archetypes which would appear in the game's first major DLC release. Now that said content has finally launched, it seems the developer is wasting no time in teasing its next expansion for the game: One which might just involve waves of shambling undead.

The game's catalog of in-game tips recently had a message added which reads, "I think Zombies are coming soon, run!" Helpful advice, indeed. A few fans also noticed that the debut trailer for the recently launched Fat Roles DLC features pumpkins in lieu of cakes in a few clips. We could be in for a whole slew of Halloween-flavored Fat Princess classes -- either that, or the titular overweight monarch is switching over to a more vegan-friendly diet.

In case you missed it, check out our blog post from last Friday where we announced a load of new Fat Princess sweetness (courtesy of awesome dev team Atomic Operations) coming to PSN on Tuesday June 29.

You can see highlights in the video below, but cut us a little slack since this was shot weary-eyed just before E3 and we hadn’t had our royal makeover yet:

We’re also happy to announce that Fat Princess is doing her part to help roll out the red carpet for PlayStation Plus. Fat Roles DLC will be featured at a discounted price of $3.99 (20% off regular PSN price), and will also include some exclusive free Avatars!

Stay tuned, see you all on the battlefield, and as always…

Cake for everyone,

Next Tuesday, Fat Princess' roster of playable classes will be fattened considerably when the Ninja, Pirate and Giant archetypes (which have been frequently teased over the past year) hit the PSN as part of the "Fat Roles" pack. The expansion, which will cost $4.99, includes the three classes and four new maps, all of which are previewed in the trailer posted after the jump.

If you're strapped for cash, the game is also getting a free update adding four-player couch multiplayer to the game, which should lead to some noisy banter to concern your neighbors. "Put down the girl, stuff that cake in her mouth, and then let's kill this priest!"

On Tuesday June 29, our favorite heiress to the throne will get a little added bulk thanks to our good friends at Atomic Operations, and we can’t wait for all you Fat Princess fans to check it out!

Fat Princess Fat Roles DLC (USD $4.99) unleashes Pirates, Ninjas and Giants (oh my!) into the world of Fat Princess. These three new character classes bring a whole new level of awesomeness to the frenzied 32-player battles alongside our beloved royal beauty.

4731181203_70c375f855.jpg

After picking up the DLC, a new multi-class magic hat spawner will be activated in every level of Fat Princess. Pirates can call in cannon ball attacks, Ninjas can hide in the shadows to sneak through doors, and the all-mighty Giants can cause rumbling earthquakes and gain health by chomping on their enemies.

4731180957_6d682498d7.jpg

We’re also very happy to announce that Patch 1.06 activates the new Fat Princess Party feature!

Due to the overwhelming fan response, Patch1.06 delivers four-player same-console co-op for FREE to everyone who owns Fat Princess! Fans will be able to enjoy couch co-op in both online and offline games. Players will also be able to re-spawn at outposts, which adds a whole new level of co-op strategy to all gaming modes and levels.

And that’s not all. We’ve also included clan tags and password-protected games to make playing with your friends even more easy and fun.

And for those of you who have heard about the game, but have not yet sampled the cake…what are you waiting for? Go ahead and download the Full Fat Princess game on June 29 for just $14.99. It includes everything from the initial release updated all the way through Patch 1.06, so you get all of this great content (all original maps plus four recently released new maps, party feature, clan tags and loads of enhancements) in one fell swoop.

Stay tuned, see you all on the battlefield, and as always…

Cake for everyone,

The Fat Princess Team

It's been a long time coming, but Fat Princess is finally getting the long overdue pirates and ninjas DLC. In addition to the premium "Fat Roles" content, the online-only PSN game will be patched to version 1.06, which adds a rather significant new feature: four-player same-screen co-op.

Being able to bring three local friends into an online match does a lot to enhance the overall experience. There's the obvious benefit of being able to chat and coordinate strategy in person, but there's also the added bonus of enhanced spawns: so long as one member of the party remains alive, any fallen teammates can revive quickly at a captured tower. (No need to go all the way back to base!)

While the 1.06 patch is free, the Fat Roles DLC is a premium add-on. All players will be able to see the new hat which activates the three new classes (pirates, ninjas and giants), however only those that have purchased the DLC will be able to pick up and wear the hats. Obviously, each of the classes have their own unique abilities: pirates have a gun, which can be charged for a more lethal attack; ninjas can throw shurikens; and giants can instantly kill other players (but cannot regenerate health). In addition to these base powers, the Fat Roles offer additional special powers.

PlayStation Fans and pinball lovers! Pinball Heroes Bundle 2 for PSP recently hit the PSN Store, and it’s packed with tables based on ModNation Racers, Fat Princess, MotorStorm and WipEout HD Fury.

Today, we’re showing you these tables in action for the first time!

ModNation Racers
Just like in ModNation Racers, this pinball table allows you to alter the look of your Kart, Mod and Track Props. Plus, there are opponents to knock past, and six different ramp entrances to hit. Each ramp entrance corresponds to a move that is available in ModNation Racers on the PSP or PS3. Combo-ing those moves will raise your Boost meter and increase your score!

Fat Princess
The Fat Princess pinball table channels the spirit of competitive princess capturing. Knock down the walls of the castle to rescue the damsel, feed your captive princess, and build bridges and catapults and upgrade hat machines using the wood and ore that you collect. Just be quick and accurate, because the enemy advances with each missed shot!

WipEout HD Fury
WipEout HD Fury plays like an exciting race in the grand WipEout tradition! There are multiple challenging courses, boosters to hit, and powerups to collect. Just be careful not to fall off of one of the ramps, or you will crash and lose a position! Win a race in first place to earn the most points.

MotorStorm
The MotorStorm table features branching ramps which have eight different variations, each one representing one of the courses in MotorStorm. This pinball table also features 3 different multipliers from Tires, Vehicles and Boost. Just be careful not to boost too much and lose your multiplier in an explosion…

The Pinball Heroes Team and myself would really like to give our fans a mighty big “thank you” for all of your support and interest. As part of our thanks and appreciation, please be on the lookout for two new FREE Pinball Heroes themes available beginning June 8th. We will be bringing you two more on June 22nd.

Additionally, to any fans who are experiencing any issues with your in-game Trophy shelf please do the following to patch the game so that you chase down and acquire each of the tables’ awards. Highlight the Pinball Heroes game in your PSP’s XMB. Then, press the Triangle button to bring up the “Options.” Select “Update” from the “Options” Menu. At this point, your PSP should connect to the network and find the patch. Finally, just download and install it. We have also resolved the issues with the Online Leaderboards. Note: anyone who purchases the game AFTER the June 8th, 2010 PSN Store Update does not need to patch.

Well, that’s it folks. We hope that you are all enjoying the new tables!

Greetings PlayStation fans and pinball lovers of all ages! I am an assistant producer and designer for the (very) soon-to-be-released Pinball Heroes Bundle 2. This is a set of four all-new pinball tables available this Tuesday, May 25th exclusively from the PlayStation Store for your PSP.

4624965486_5da519f66d.jpg

So what are the new tables?

4624965546_4bf17f7f77.jpg

ModNation Racers

This table features three ramps, each of which is reversible and represents different moves available in the brand new PS3 and PSP kart racing champion. Try to combo the moves/ramps into each other to build up a huge Boost Combo. Hit each ramp direction at least once to activate the four-ball multiball! Just be wary of your opponents and the rotating platform in the upper part of the playfield. You can also alter your table’s appearance as well as your Mod and Kart!

4624361071_6d6d72614f_m.jpg

Fat Princess

You’ve got their princess, and they’ve got yours. Prove yourself to be a true and brave Pinball Hero by rescuing your Red Princess! You’ll have to chop wood and mine ore to collect the resources you need to build or upgrade your Hat Machines, a Bridge or even a Catapult. Bash down the enemy’s doors to enter their castle and save your fair lady! But be sure to be accurate; missed shots will advance the blue fiends towards your castle where they will steal your prisoner.

4624360969_3dace22dc2_m.jpg

WipEout HD Fury

In this exciting and fast-paced table, players will advance along one of six different tracks by shooting the flashing arrows. However, opposing racers are also involved and they need to be dealt with by acquiring various powerups. After 3 laps, hit the Checkered Flag ball lock to complete the race and receive bonus points for finishing in first, second, or third. Finish all six races and you’ll enter the Time Trial jackpot mode! Spell out F-U-R-Y and you can add a ball to your game, for up to four-ball multiball!

4624965678_5250906863.jpg

MotorStorm

This table features the eight race courses in the original MotorStorm, represented as branching ramps. Shoot the ball into the appropriate ramp and use the flippers to operate the track switches. Make sure that the ball follows the correct path to complete a race. Once you complete all of the tracks, then the Apocalypse Race Ticket is activated! Hitting the drop targets on the right and left will increase your Vehicle multiplier to really “ramp up” your score (see what I did there?). Finally, there is the Boost orbit. Hitting this will increase your boost multiplier, but if it gets too high it will explode unless you can cool it down in time.

If you haven’t played Pinball Heroes before, then there are some things that you should know about it. We’ve focused on making a fun, portable game experience. Something that you can just pick up and play if you want, but that also has more depth for anyone interested in going deeper. We’ve made the table nudge/tilt feature very forgiving to give players more control over the ball and prevent some frustration. Additionally, every table can be played in either horizontal or vertical mode. Pinball Heroes also features its own in-game goals and awards, as well as online leaderboards so that you can compare your scores to the rest of the world! For more info, head here to find out more.

Way back in November of ‘09 my partner in crime, Jason Coker, detailed our initial four tables. You DO NOT have to own any of the previous Pinball Heroes tables to purchase and enjoy the new bundle. If you have any previous tables, the new bundle will fit right into your existing game. If you don’t have any of our earlier pinball tables (what are you waitin’ for?) then this bundle will still be playable. You can buy Pinball Heroes Bundle 2 and then add additional Pinball Heroes tables if you like. The order in which you choose to purchase the tables is all up to you! Feel that rush of consumer power!

Well folks, that’s a lot of reading. In closing, let me just say that you can get all four awesome, portable and fun tables for just $9.99!! Check the PlayStation Store on May 25th, and have fun!

Hello, Feasters of the Cake!

Huzzah and Hooray!
Fat Princess has released in a portable way!

With new maps and modes for the PSP,
On top of those already from the PS3!

Play along with your friends, or go online.
You’re guaranteed a most wonderful time!

The new stuff adds up to 50 percent!
You’ve got to admit, that’s rather quite decent!

Made by a talented team at SuperVillain,
You will soon find yourself playing again and again.

Battles are fierce, intense and quite fun!
Soon you too will cry “Cake for everyone!”

OK, OK…. I couldn’t help myself. I have been in quite a festive mood as we near the release of Fat Princess: Fistful of Cake. I couldn’t help myself from trying out a bit of prose. As you can see… I won’t be running off to publish any poetry books in the near future, but I WILL be playing Fat Princess: Fistful of Cake on my PSP. I’m very proud of this game and how well SuperVillain Studios brought all of the PS3 fun into the PSP. Plus they have added so much more to it with new game modes like Demolition, Jailbreak and Grim Reaper, plus the neat Dilapidated mode which adds a neat spin to any game. In Dilapidated mode, you must first repair the hat machines in order to get them operational! The new maps are great, too. They also created a longer story mode to introduce you to these new game elements and help you get familiar with the new surroundings.

There is so much to do and so much to play,
Before you know it, you’ll have finished your day!

Sorry about that… I will stop with the rhymes now. Promise.

In fact, I’m going to finish this up and go play Fat Princess: Fistful of Cake on my PSP. It’s a whole lot of fun in the palm of your hand!

(OK, one more)

Get Fat Princess now on your PSP,

Available for download or on UMD!!

OK, we know it’s officially Spring in most of the world, but we really just couldn’t resist bringing a winter wonderland to Fat Princess PS3.

Today, March 25, we’ll be releasing Patch 1.05 which now includes *two* new FREE snow-themed maps called Frost Bite and Candy Mountain.

We know many people have wanted new maps, and we’re diligently trying to keep the community alive and together with these free maps. And for those of you who have heard about Fat Princess and – gasp! – have not yet played it, now is your chance to grab the game and you’ll get all of the original maps plus four additional maps for free!

We’ve also fixed a few issues recently brought to our attention:

  • Warrior: Fixed to disallow shield activation when carrying objects, as well as attenuating damage against lava and drowning.
  • Ice Mage: Changed level 1 area attack to slow enemies, not freeze them.
  • Soccer map: Disabled online score saving for this level (sorry, all, but it was too easy to gain rank).

Last but certainly not least, we’re happy to announce that our beloved princess has a hot new suitor: Atomic Operations, a new developer based in Seattle, Washington. We have lots of exciting things underway, and all I can really say is “Yo ho ho and a slice of cake!” (nudge nudge wink wink) ;-)

Stay tuned, see you all on the battlefield, and as always…

Cake for everyone,

The Fat Princess Team

No more warrior shield glitch is the best news I've gotten all week.

I have been meaning to buy a *crag*ing headset.
Circumstances have forced me to, well, not buy one.

Have you made a date with the Fat Princess on PS3 lately? If not, perhaps this news will entice you to jump back on: a new patch today will add two new maps to the online PSN game. Frost Bite and Candy Mountain are both snow-themed maps, ripe for cake eating and princess snatching. This update will boost the number of free DLC maps to four.

It appears that with this update, Fat Princess will switch hands to a new developer: Atomic Operations, helmed by former heads of Titan Studios. It seems that they may be working on that long-teased pirate-themed update, as a recent post on the PlayStation.Blog ends with a "Yo ho ho." Of course, we could be wrong, and SCEA's Deborah Mars may simply be saying hi to some cream-filled cakes.

Hello everyone! I’m Matt Morton, a Producer here at Santa Monica Studio. I’m VERY excited to be talking today about Fat Princess: Fistful of Cake, and to let everyone know that you will be able to have your very own copy beginning Tuesday, April 27 via the PlayStation Store or UMD at participating retail outlets! Fat Princess: Fistful of Cake is everything you love about Fat Princess on the PS3, and it fits right in the palm of your hand. Plus, there are even more slices of cakey goodness in the PSP version, as we’ve added additional content to this wonderful game. We’ve got new game modes, new maps, a new extended storyline for single player…. heck, there is just a LOT of fun to be had with Fat Princess: Fistful of Cake!

Check out the trailer!

I wouldn’t be able to talk about this great game without mentioning SuperVillain Studios (SVS). They are the developers that met the challenge of bringing Fat Princess to the PSP, making it a faithful game that stands on its own, and adds so much more than the original did. I would like to introduce you to Todd Morgan, the Senior Producer from SuperVillain Studios that helped bring Fat Princess: Fistful of Cake to life.

Todd, let’s talk about what SVS has brought to FP: FoC. What new and exciting things will we see in this new title?

Hi Matt! First of all, thank you for providing me the opportunity to speak about the game. We are very excited about game, and think that everyone else will be too! First off, we have added six new maps to the game. Five of these news maps will be showcased through the newly expanded single player mode called Legend of the Fat Princess. The sixth map was created specifically for one of our new play modes that we have created for our version of the game. In total we have added 4 NEW play modes to the game. These new play modes are integrated into the single player story mode, but can also be played as stand alone play types from the main menu. We added six new music tracks created specifically for each map, in order to stay true to how the PS3 version was made. Lastly, since this game is so multiplayer friendly, we made sure to make this game support both Adhoc play and Infrastructure play.

How did you get all of this extra-good cakey-ness onto the PSP?

Lots of hard work! I’m kidding, good question. For the most part we took what was already there with the PS3 version of the game, and then by hand remodeled and resized all of the existing maps and characters in the game so that they would fit onto the PSP. All the while making sure that the game still looks as close to the PS3 version as possible. We also had to make tweaks to the in-game UI and FX’s to again fit with in the PSP hardware. The additional game modes took a bit of work, but were a lot of fun to add to the game. We had to re-sample the audio, but again this was just necessary in order to fit onto the PSP and to sound as best as possible.

Fat Princess is a great online experience. What is the number of players we can battle, and in what modes: Ad Hoc, Infrastructure?

Adhoc will support up to 8 unique users to be able to connect and play together without having to be signed into a PSN account. Infrastructure will support up to 8 unique users logged into PSN. Both play types will have the ability to have up to 24 characters onscreen during gameplay. We’re very excited about this. We worked really hard to make this happen for the integrity of the game.

I can’t wait until everyone gets their hands on Fat Princess: Fistful of Cake! It’s been a pleasure getting to work on this with you guys. Anything else to add before we sign off?

Working on Fat Princess: Fistful of Cake was a lot fun for us here at SuperVillain. We really enjoyed working on the game, and would definitely like to give credit to Titan Studios for creating such a fun game to work on. I would also like to thank you and Deb Mars, and SCEA Santa Monica Studio for giving us the opportunity to work on such a fun and creative game. We are very excited about the work we’ve done, and think that everyone else will really enjoy it as well.

Thank you, Todd!

Well everyone, there you have it! We’ve got a great game heading your way for the PSP very soon! We’ve had a blast making it, and we are very proud of how it’s all come together. I think you will be thrilled with this game, no matter if you are a fan of Fat Princess on the PS3, or even if you’ve never played Fat Princess before.

See you on the battlefield, and remember: Cake for EVERYONE!!

Say what you will about Fat Princess developer Titan Studios -- but don't say the team behind the slightly chunky Capture the Flag title is unappreciative. In a recent PlayStation.Blog post, the developer thanked its fans for their continued support, and announced that the game will receive a patch tomorrow. The update includes a few alterations to how online rankings are calculated -- but the meat cream filling of the patch is a brand new, totally free map, titled "Brownie Town." No further details on the new playground were given, but we're guessing it'll be a symmetrical metropolitan area covered in sweet, chocolatey pastries. Let us know how it is once the game is updated tomorrow!
