Star Fox is a rail shooter in a third-person and first-person 3D perspective. The player must navigate Fox's spacecraft, an Arwing, through environments while various enemies (spaceships, robots, creatures, etc.) attack him. Along the way various power-ups are placed in the stage to help the player. The player receives a score on each level based on how many enemies destroyed and how well the player has defended his/her teammates. At the end of each level there is a boss that the player must defeat before progressing to the next level.

In Star Fox 64, the player controls one of the vehicles piloted by Fox McCloud, usually an Arwing. Most of the game takes place in "Corridor Mode," which forces Fox's vehicle down a fixed path straight forward through the environment. The player can maneuver somewhat around the path and slow their vehicle temporarily, but cannot truly stop or change direction. Some stages of the game, including many bosses, take place in "All-Range Mode" by comparison (As does Multi-Player Mode). In this variant the player can move freely within the confines of a large arena to engage in combat

Beginning to see a pattern here? That's 'cause I've themed the month - Capcom shmups for the NES.

Get in scores by the 28th, bluh bluh you know the drill.

Good Luck and safe flying!

Took me a while to find another good Capcom shooter on NES. Good being subjective here, though.

Watch out though - your score is also your money so don't spash out too much unless you intend to lag behind.

Screenies in by the 28th as per usual. Good luck!

This game is an interesting curio mainly because it went unreleased for twenty years, thanks to NOAs' "six-games-a-year" policy.

Game's available here, along with ten other unreleased oddities: http://www.lostlevels.org/wordpress/2007/11/08/virtual-console-alternatives/

Post scores by the 28th and I wish you all the best of luck!

You know the drill, take a screenshot of your highest scores and get them in before the 6th.

Use the US version of the game, but if you can't be arsed looking it out, play it on vNES:

Good Luck!

Edit: TIME EXTEND

Deadline pushed back to 28th, and all four games are available for postings.

I underestimated this games' difficulty. D:

Yes, I'm chasing this unholy cluster*crag* behemoth again.

Let's face it, this year's competition was frankly a bit shit, and by a bit I mean "everyone quit". As a consequence, I'm revamping the whole damn thing: scoring system, game choices, everything.

I guess this is also the signup topic, then. If you want in then post, I dunno, a picture of sunglasses below. The games start in February and end in November, so this'll be a pretty gruelling contest. To all entering, good luck.

MattTheSpratt

What, can't a man enter his own comp?

Four games will be played each month of the competition, all ending on the 28th. I choose the first four, then the person in last place gets to pick four games for the subsequent month.

For each game chosen, whoever picked it must post the options that the other players must use. For a score to be accepted, a screenshot must be provided. It's only fair after all.

Scoring:

Each month will have different point values for the games:

  • February = 6
  • March = 8
  • April = 10
  • May = 12
  • June = 14
  • July = 16
  • August = 18
  • September = 20
  • October = 30
  • November = 50

Highest score wins the full points,  second place gets half points, third place a quarter, fourth and fifth receive one point, everyone else gets nil.

Players who miss a game receive nothing.
