If you had any doubt that the cult of Helix fossil , one of the "religions" formed around Twitch Plays Pokémon, is a serious thing, here's proof. Klefki, one of the newest Pokémon characters, is also one of the weirdest. It's a set of keys, with an immunity to poison and dragon-type moves. You probably can't open doors with it, but Tony Sarkees on Etsy is selling nickel-coated steel replicas of it. Much easier to put them in your pockets than a plush stuffed Pikachu.Read more...

Hey, the guy who just did Batman's voice will be doing Sonic next. A new behind-the-scenes video for Sonic Boom looks at how Sega's signature character will be changing in his new video game and TV show. A few quick glimpses of the Sonic Boom game get shown and developers working on it talk it up as an action-adventure game with an emphasis on story and teamwork. And, yeah, the guy behind the mic for Sonic is the same Roger Craig Smith who voiced the Dark Knight in Batman: Arkham Origins.Read more...

The International Trade Commission has found in favor of Nintendo in a case involving three companies claiming the gaming giant infringed on their patents with the creation of the Nintendo DS and 3DS handhelds.

In 2012, Technology Properties Limited LLC, Phoenix Digital Solutions LLC and Patriot Scientific Corporation - three companies specializing in patent licensing - filed suit against Nintendo, claiming that the company had infringed on a high-efficiency processor patent in the creation of its most recent handhelds. After nearly two years in court, Nintendo has emerged victorious.

"We are very pleased with the commission's determination, which confirmed the judge's finding that Nintendo's products do not infringe the asserted patent," said Nintendo of America vice president Richard Medway in a statement trumpeting the company's victory. "Nintendo's track record demonstrates that we vigorously defend patent lawsuits, including cases in the ITC, when we believe we have not infringed another party's patent. Nintendo continues to develop unique and innovative products while respecting the intellectual property rights of others."

That track record Medway mentions does indeed demonstrate that Nintendo is an ardent defender of its intellectual property rights, though the company's history in the courtroom is far from spotless. Less than a year ago, Nintendo was ordered to pay $30.2 million for infringing on a 3D display patent held by Seijiro Tomita. [Image: Nintendo]

Two Batman games came out last year. The big console version, Batman: Arkham Origins, came from a new development studio. That game's overshadowed, on-the-go semi-sequel Batman: Arkham Origins: Blackgate came from Armature, a collective of creators who helped make the great Metroid Prime games. Previously released only for 3DS and Vita, Blackgate now gets its own chance to find an audience on bigger screens with a downloadable Deluxe Edition. Thank God they're not adding another colon.Read more...
