First Look: Battlefield 3: Aftermath, Ready to Shake Up Multiplayer

But December 4th for premium subscribers! Yeah, those who pay will get to play just that little bit earlier. But what will they be playing with? Well, the Aftermath DLC contains four new maps, each of which is situated in earthquake-devastated Iran. There’s also a new game mode, which sounds awesome. It’s called Scavenger, and sees players start with just a knife and pistol. They have to go out into the map and search for better weapons to survive. I have to admit I’ve not been back to Battlefield 3 for several months, but the same was true of Bad Company 2, and I still went back and put hundreds of hours into that. Perhaps after Christmas…

Battlefield 3's 'Armored Kill' DLC is finally out across all platforms, meaning its finally ready to handle some updates. A server update will start taking effect tomorrow, October 11, at 4:30 a.m. ET, and should take roughly six hours to fully roll out worldwide. PC updates will hit within 24 hours. Battlefield 3 and Battlelog will be inaccessible on PC and consoles from 4 - 4:30 a.m. ET tomorrow for backend maintenance.

The update adds a balance tweak to the gunship, adds an option to remove the minimap in Hardcore mode, fixes a bug that allowed only one knife takedown on a server at a time, improves server stability and more, as listed here.

Looking for some more variety in game modes? DICE has upped the number of official servers for Battlefield 3 on consoles - four-fold. Quick matches will still drop you into the first available ranked server, rented or not, but if you input "DICE" when searching, it should list all the available DICE servers.

You'll find these newly-added DICE servers available on Xbox 360 and PS3 as of right now, the Battlefield Blog says. There's no word on whether DICE will be instituting a similar measure on the PC.

Our news-pumped chums at VG247 recently talked to Patrick Bach from DICE about the upcoming Armoured Kill DLC for Battlefield 3: huge maps on which tanks and other vehicles do endless full-metal biff to each other. There’s a bunch of new footage of the maps and modes in the video, which you can see below, albeit largely filmed from a screen. This DLC is actually tipping me back towards playing Battlefield 3 again, since I’ve been pondering which multiplayer game I need to lurch my way into in the winter months. Additionally, “Tank Superiority mode” sounds like something I need to spend some time with.

A new version of Battlefield 3, the Battlefield 3 Premium Edition, will arrive this September, executive producer Patrick Bach announced during EA's Gamescom press conference. As the title implies, the Premium Edition includes a membership to the Battlefield Premium service which, in turn, grants access to new expansions, including Back to Karkand, Close Quarters, and the upcoming Armored Kill, End Game and Aftermath.

The Premium Edition also features the "Multiplayer Head Start Kit," which includes "15 different weapons, gadgets and vehicle upgrades." The Battlefield 3 Premium Edition will launch on PC, Xbox and PS3 this September for $70 in North America, €60 in Europe and £50 in the UK.

Battlefield 3's End Game DLC, due out March 2013, will have players take out enemies while looking studly on motorcycles, as demonstrated by the above image taken from EA's Summer Showcase. End Game is slated to contain new maps, vehicles and more, and is the final of three announced DLC packs for BF3, following Armored Kill in September and Aftermath in December.
First up, fans will get their hands on Armored Kill, which features manic vehicular manslaughter in the form of ATVs, mobile artillery and most lethally of all tanks, as shown in the following gallery.

EA’s policy with sequelized franchises tends to mirror that of an over-excited puppy or me when I’m talking to anyone and an over-excited puppy prances into view: out of sight, out of mind. Servers quietly disappear, DLC dries up entirely, and empires (mostly of the sporting variety) crumble. DICE, however, swears the same fate won’t befall Battlefield 3. It’s going strong right now with Armored Kill, Aftermath, and Endgame still on the way, but apparently, their end won’t signal the endgame of this game’s endgame. Endgame!
