I’m a lapsed football fan, so I’m writing this not knowing a) where Euro 2012 is being held, b) if any of the British teams have made it to the finals, and c) if goalies are paying much attention to the ten-step rule. I have heard of Lionel Messi, though. But even as a missing link in the Mexican wave of foot-o-ball trivia, I knew that there would be an EA Euro 2012 game released this year, just like I knew the sun would be up this morning. What’s surprising is that EA Sports UEFA Euro 2012 (that’s a mad name) will be DLC for Fifa 12 game and not sold in the shops.(more…)

#womensgolf After two rounds at The Masters, the 44 highest scores and ties, plus anyone within 10 strokes of the leader, make the cut. Since 2006, when the course was lengthened, no American amateur has survived to "Moving Day," the nickname for Saturday's round. Yesterday, I did so. As a woman. More »

#stickjockey For years, EA Sports' Tiger Woods PGA Tour series has allowed gamers to create female golfers and play with them, even against all-male tournament fields, on any course and in any of the events licensed to appear in the game. Last year, Tiger Woods added The Masters Tournament, the event hosted by Augusta National Golf Club, notorious for its all-male membership. More »

#stickjockey When something happens in real life sports, my first instinct is to see if I can replicate it in a video game. It's partly why they exist, after all. But the New Orleans Saints' infamous "bounty" system, which paid premiums to players who delivered devastating hits, would seem to be beyond the means of a game like Madden NFL 12. More »

#madden EA Sports yesterday completed its announcement of the field of 64 candidates for the cover of Madden NFL 13, and opened voting today in its joint promotion with ESPN. #madden Back on Super Bowl weekend, I tried to pick the 64-man field—two players from each of the NFL's 32 teams—who would be vying in EA Sports' fan-voted playoff for the Madden NFL 13 cover. Half of the picks I made were pulled out my ass. The other half were regrettable for other reasons. More »

#ssx Looking back on the original SSX titles, it's hard to believe that they were based on an actual real-world sports activity. The snowboard riders you steered across the bright white landscapes of 2001 were near indestructible, able to shrug off massive crashes with quips and bit of boost. But, with a reboot that binds the arcade action of SSX more closely to reality, Psymon, Elise, Mac and their fellow riders come across as more fragile than ever before. More »

It's time to return to SSX's pixel peaks and commit death-defying stunts from the comfort of your couch (hot cocoa optional). The demo for EA's SSX reboot is available now on Xbox 360, featuring classic SSX character Zoe Payne in "Race it" and "Trick it" events.

The demo also features some online functionality, allowing players to upload ghosts of their best runs in the "Explore mode." It's also possible to unlock Mac Fraser (pictured) by sending the demo to a friend.

PS3 owners itching to hit the slopes will be able to as soon as the PSN updates later today. The full tricky experience will be available February 28 in North America.

Hey everyone, Nate McDonald here, one of the producers for EA SPORTS Grand Slam Tennis 2. This is an exciting post for me to write because after a lot of hard work by a great group of people here at EA Canada, we are ready to launch this franchise to you on the PlayStation 3 platform!

Given that this was our first venture into the tennis genre on next gen, we really wanted to focus on developing a well-rounded title, with fun and innovative controls, high quality detailed graphics and presentation for all of the players and courts, and enough feature depth to keep you coming back for more, whether it be single player, multi-player, or online.

I have to say that developing our All-New Total Racquet Control system was the most challenging, but also ended up being the most rewarding. We are really proud of this new innovative control scheme, and although it will take a little bit of practice to get used to it, we think that you will really enjoy the amount of fidelity that you have in the controls and how precise you can be. Don’t forget, that feeling of control can be taken one step further with the PlayStation Move controller. It will literally feel like you are playing with a racquet in your hands!

Throughout the development process, we had some amazing head-to-head matches and tournaments within the team. It was a great environment to be a part of and many classic matches and rivalries were created as a result. With these realistic controls, and the ability to battle head-to-head online we hope you will develop your shots, battle against opponents all over the globe, and create some cool memories of your own.

EA SPORTS Grand Slam Tennis 2 is now available on PlayStation 3. It is the exclusive home of Wimbledon and features PlayStation Move support, over 20 of the greatest past and present players, a deep 10-year career mode, a wide variety of online gameplay features including EA SPORTS Game Face technology, and lots more.

#stickjockey Mark Little flicks the joystick and opens a special developer's menu in Major League Baseball 2K12. The screen jumps to an empty ballpark, with a few lines representing the trajectory of a pitch and the timing of the batter trying to hit it. Little starts fooling with some ratings, creating a situation involving a high-contact hitter with not much pop. More »

True, SSX's soundtrack may not include any songs by The Avalanches, an appropriately named and incredibly talented Australian breakbeat group, but it does include 36 licensed tracks and 10 original songs produced specifically for the title by Amon Tobin, Camo & Krooked, Raffertie, and The Qemists.

There's a complete list of artists featured in the game after the break, but let us save you some time by telling you that yes, it does include Skrillex. Not only is it Skrillex, but it's our favorite song from his first EP: "Scatta," which features sick verses by Foreign Beggars and a drop so heavy that it may cause a few avalanches of its own. A new version of Run-DMC's "It's Tricky" also returns for old time's sake, remixed by soundtrack compatriots Pretty Lights, as well as cuts from DJ Shadow and a Lateef the Truthspeaker joint featuring Hiero-hero Del the Funky Homosapien.

#sports Wishful thinking is a common theme with conceptual EA Sports game covers; usually the artist is honoring a favorite player or another star he wishes would be anointed for cover recognition. Entirely imaginary titles, as conceived here by an artist and posted on Behance, are a little less common. No NCAA Lacrosse title by EA Sports exists and odds aren't good that it will anytime soon.
