Take Batman out of Frank Miller's classic story about an older Batman coming out of retirement. Replace him with Donkey Kong. And you get something that hopefully exists in some more blessed alternate universe: The Donkey Knight Returns.Read more...

Now, as much as I adore Donkey Kong 64 as a cherished game from my childhood, I can't really say the game has held up well over time. I'm not trying to replay it or anything...well, unless I could play a glitched out version of it, like Vinesauce does here. It would be too hilarious not to enjoy!Read more...

There's a clarity to this version of the Donkey Kong arcade game that the original arcade cabinet just can't match. Something about using using thousands of perler beads instead of sprites, I'd imagine. Read more...

Sir Arthur from Ghosts 'n Goblins portrayed as a 60s hippie, or Kaneda from Akira as Pac-Man is not something that comes along every day, but these awesome, animated posters have the weirdest crossovers between video games, movies, celebrities and music. Brazilian artist Butcher Billy made crazy mashups before, like the one with Super Mario and The Sex Pistols, now he's created an even messier, awesome looking gallery. To a 3-year-old, it's a logical enough assumption: We can play as a girl, Princess Peach, in Super Mario Bros. 2, so we should be able to play as Pauline in Donkey Kong. Most seasoned players know this isn't the case, since Donkey Kong features a static game of boy-saves-girl - until now.

"My 3-year-old daughter and I play a lot of old games," writes one dad on Facebook, as picked up by Reddit. "Her favorite is Donkey Kong. Two days ago, she asked me if she could play as the girl and save Mario. She's played as Peach in Super Mario Bros. 2 and naturally just assumed she could do the same in Donkey Kong. I told her we couldn't in that particular Mario game; she seemed really bummed out by that."

To put a smile on his daughter's face, this dad hacked the 2010 NES Donkey Kong ROM, using Tile Layer Pro, and swapped out Mario with Pauline. He shows off the end product in the above Donkey Kong: Pauline Edition video, though we don't need visual confirmation that this is the most adorable story we'll write today.

#donkeykong This is pretty sweet. Mike Mika's daughter is three years old, and the two of them play a lot of video games together. "She's played as Peach in Super Mario Bros. 2 and naturally just assumed she could do the same in Donkey Kong," he wrote. When it bummed her out to learn she couldn't play as Pauline, the original damsel Mario rescued from distress, Mike set out to mod the game so she could play as the woman. More »

#donkeykong It's like a Christmas tree, but cooler. Designed by Carlos Leituga, this tree takes the original, arcade Donkey Kong game and morphs it a little. I never realized how perfect that level is for a tree until now. More »

#donkeykong This contraption looks like an alternate-reality version of the arcade game that pretty much saved Nintendo. No pixels are present in engineer Martin Raynsford's laser-cut re-creation of Donkey Kong but you do control Mario via an NES hooked up to servo motors. This first attempt only lets you jump as Mario but Raynsford writes that he'll start work on a sidescrolling version soon. Still, pretty frikkin' cool More »

#wreckitralph Maybe you've seen the trailer for Wreck-It Ralph, the upcoming Disney movie about a video game villain who doesn't want to be bad anymore. That clip's got bad guys like Street Fighter's Zangief and Bowser from the Super Mario games opening their hearts in a support group. Those villains earned their bad reputations by body-slamming players in actual games. However, the Fix-It Felix —the fictional franchise where Ralph's hero-hating happened— More »
