Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 has officially disappeared from Xbox Live. The news doesn't come as a surprise, given that the final date to purchase DLC on the platform announced by Capcom is today. The game is still available on PSN for Vita, along with its collection of DLC, but there's no available download for the PS3 version of the game.

Conversely, the other game set for delisting, Marvel vs. Capcom 2, is still available on Xbox Live but is nowhere to be found on PSN. It's unknown just how long the game will still be available on Microsoft's service. It arrived on XBLA in late July 2009 and is priced at $14.99.

If you were thinking about taking Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3's DLC for a ride, you might want to decide already - a Capcom Unity post announced a DLC sale and encouraged fans to snatch up content for the crossover fighter, which will be "leaving the PSN and XBLA stores." The post calls for players to pick up UMVC3 and Marvel vs Capcom 2 "before they go away," but the next sentence calls out MVC3 as the game which will depart with its younger, Ultimate brother. With the standard version of MVC3 unavailable on either store however, we're pretty sure that's a typo and that the announcement is related to MVC2.

While the entry asks readers to "stay tuned" for sales info concerning XBLA, PSN users can perform a 50 percent off combo on the DLC of their choosing for UMVC3 content. December 17 will be the final day the DLC is available in the US, with the European PSN offering the sale until December 19. While sales for XBLA have yet to be specified, the post does list December 26 as a global final call for DLC for Xbox owners.

The games themselves have remained at full price on Xbox Live - UMVC3 is $29.99, while MVC2 is $14.99. PSN users can currently purchase MVC2 at $7.49, or for $3.75 with PlayStation Plus.

Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 was, on the whole, considered a better balanced edition than regular-old Marvel vs. Capcom 3. That's not to say it couldn't use some tuning, and Capcom's top fighting game producer says a balancing patch could be coming.Read more...

Justin Wong, one of the all-time top fighting game players, lost to Job "EMP Flocker" Figuerora early in the Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 tournament at EVO 2013. But that was only the start of an incredible comeback that you've got to see. Here's how Wong got kicked into the losers bracket and climbed back... Top 8 Winners Bracket - VXP EMP Flocker vs. EG Justin Wong Flocker's setup of Zero, Vergil and Hawkeye turns out to be superior compared to Justin's classic Wolverine, Storm and Akuma trio. Flocker's 3-0 puts Justin in the losers bracket, forcing Wong to show his true powers and start his march back toward the grand finals. Top 8 Losers Bracket - AGE Chris G vs. EG Justin Wong This is the stunner. Wong loses the first two rounds to the insanely-good Chris G. But that's not the end of the story. You want to see a great come-from-behind win? Sure you do... Losers Semifinals - EG Justin Wong vs. Cloud Cloud's Zero causes some trouble early on in all three games, but overall Justin is able to 3-0 him by using Storm's abilities and assist calls wisely. Losers Finals - EG Justin Wong vs. Angelic Even with only Akuma left in game #2 and only Akuma and Storm left in game #5 against Angelic's full team (Wolverine, Dormammu, Shuma-Gorath), Justin is still able to K.O. him 3-1, and elevate himself to the grand finals. Grand Finals - VXP EMP Flocker vs. EG Justin Wong Finally, the rematch. Wong faces Flocker in the grand finals. Wong has to win two sets (a total of 6 games) in order to win the championship. Here's the first set: He wins, taking it 3-2. And here's the second set: Flocker gets the official win. Justin Wong walks out the people's champ. You don't need to worry about Japanese developers when it comes to creating an insane, over-the-top frenzy on the screen. It is just in their veins; their only barrier is having the necessary game hardware to show it up right. Just think about the superb 60 frame per sec action in Bayonetta or having twelve characters on the screen all at once in Guardian Heroes (thank you Sega Saturn), there are only a few cooler things than Japanese video games with a crazy amount of chaos. Bangai-O Spirits Blowing up everything on the screen at once continously is not an issue in Treasure's 2008 mecha shooter for the Nintendo DS. Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 The combat animations, crazy combos and called-in assists create an ridiculously cool chaos on screen in Capcom's crossover fighting game. Gungrave Superb third person shooter for the PlayStation 2 in which we control an undead protagonist going after those who killed him. ESPGaluda ESPGaluda is one of the many crazy manic shooters from Cave. The arrange mode that changes gameplay rules was added to the PlayStation 2 port in 2004, making it much harder and chaotic. Crazy Taxi There are no rules in Sega's arcade racer, which promotes taxi driving to one of the most enjoyable jobs in the world. Mushihime-sama Futari Another bullet hell shooter from Cave, released in 2006, and with its ultra difficulty mode, it's also among the hardest. Guardian Heroes One of the crown jewels of the beat 'em up genre and the Sega Saturn. Six players could play simultaneously making it up to twelve on screen at once, creating a hell of a mess. Bayonetta Platinum Games' fast paced third person action game tops most of the titles of this genre with its complex, awesome looking combat system and with its difficulty done right. Also, it's a great thing that Platinum Games stayed on this route with Vanquish and Metal Gear Rising. Fingers crossed for Bayonetta 2. DoDonPachi Dai Ou Jou Fourth entry in the DoDonPachi series from Cave, this bullet hell shooter is just insane-super-crazy with impossible situations. R-Type III Released in 1993 for the SNES, Irem's shooter proved that horizontal scrolling shooters also can be insanely hard and awesome with fast paced action messing up the screen. Make sure to add your picks in the comments with visuals, focusing on the most insanely chatocic and crazy gameplay moments in Japanese video games. sources: Nereid0, JonGodGames, SEGA, Capcom, CAVE, Guardian Heroes Remix, Bayonetta Wiki, Nautth, Naka Teleeli

The existence of a third Marvel vs Capcom game is a small miracle in its own right. Today, our attention turns to a labor of love: a gallery of 2D sprites based on the Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 fighters, lovingly made by deviantART user steamboy33.

We've combined two posters above, showing both the Marvel and Capcom sides of the roster, but steamboy33 has each available as an individual image on his profile page. And don't stop after the cast of Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 - there are plenty of other neat sprites to check out. Marvelous!

Keep your cool, Mega Man fans -- as previously announced, that version of Mega Man X above still isn't a new character in Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3. Nope, it's just Zero dressed up in a Mega Man costume, one of the new looks seen in the "Weapon Expert" costume pack available now.

Elsewhere in the pack, Devil May Cry's Trish gets a new costume for her "Gloria" look, Hawkeye gets a makeover from the time he spent in the Marvel Universe as "Ronin," and Taskmaster also gets a new look, from Udon Entertainment's comic art. Interested players (or anyone who just wants to pretend Mega Man is playable) can grab the pack right now for 320 Microsoft Points, or $3.99 on PSN.

Screens and video of handheld UMvC3—including the Gold Herald skins exclusive to Sony's handheld—make it look as pretty as its console counterparts. The organizers of the Evo fighting game tournament series have revealed this year's lineup of games, allowing you to start practicing now! Ideally, you'd have been playing a bunch of fighters already, but now you have a better idea of which ones you should be obsessively replaying. The roster includes Street Fighter X Tekken, Super Street Fighter IV Arcade Edition Ver. 2012, Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3, Soulcalibur 5, King of Fighters 13, and Mortal Kombat. Admittedly, you'll have a harder time getting practice in on a couple of those right now.

The locations and dates for this year's events were also announced, with tournaments scheduled for all over the world. Shoryuken has the full list of locations for fightstick-toting pilgrims. This year, there are more tournaments, "which means more chances to earn seeding points." In addition, you can earn those points from any of those games, making it easier to move on if you're not a Street Fighter or MvC3 player.

Catherine
I have a soft spot for the bizarre and the esoteric. If something is complicated, either through the machinations of its mechanical workings or through the intricacies of its conceptual nature, its hard for me to focus on anything else until I feel like I really understand what I'm looking at. Catherine gave me something to think about, and also made me think about myself, which isn't something I can usually say about puzzle/dating games.

The experience is complicated in both the literal and metaphorical sense; its ever-changing puzzle gameplay and surprisingly deep, multifaceted story are the result of brilliant design decisions, exceptional writing and an amazing localization job by Atlus. Catherine managed to satiate my craving for the intellectually surreal while immersing me in the delightfully idiosyncratic world of Japanese storytelling.

To the Moon
Sometimes we play games to ease real-life frustrations, to cure boredom, to slaughter enemies or to participate in a captivating story. To the Moon, developed by Freebird Games, can do all of these things. It doesn't require you to murder any foes, although its very foundation is in death, and it offers a soothing, philosophical story with more depth than its pixelated graphics initially suggest. As a point-and-click adventure, To the Moon is more of an interactive tale than a full-on game, yet it is so engaging that the lack of quests, boss fights or bullets becomes irrelevant.

To the Moon chronicles the last day of an old man's life, but that day includes a Benjamin Button-style adventure through his past as a duo of snarky scientists attempt to change his memories. Why? So that his final wish can come true, at least in his mind, before he dies.

In the end, To the Moon is a beautiful and complex love story and, though I don't want to give the entire plot away, I'll tell you his final wish has something to do with interstellar travel.

Heroes and Heralds mode, one of Capcom's biggest power plays to convince Marvel vs. Capcom 3 veterans that Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 would be worth their time and dollars, has finally been delivered to patiently punching patrons the world over. In this new mode, players can either fight to save the Earth from Galactus and his cosmic crew of ne'er-do-wells, or join said group of miscreants and work towards the planet's inevitable chomping.

The mode's big selling point, beyond the shiny silver costumes of course, is the new Ability Card mechanic, which allows players to equip their characters with cards that provide ridiculous and otherwise unobtainable power-ups, such as an X-Factor burst or projectile immunity. Ability Cards are limited to the online and offline versions of Heroes and Heralds, however, so purists need not worry about the numerous balance implications inherent to the system.

The patch also fixes several game breaking bugs, including Wolverine's Spencer-assisted Swiss Cheese infinite combo and the Reverse World, as seen in the video above. Most importantly, the "tech throws whenever you want, don't even worry about it" glitch has been corrected, much to the dismay of Wesker haters everywhere.

Bad news, kind of: a selection of Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 costume DLC has been bumped a few months, and will offer one fewer option when it gets here. The "Ancient Warrior Pack" DLC, once set for December 20, has been bumped until March 6 in North America, and March 7 in Europe. When it does arrive, it'll be short one costume, the Magneto get-up from Marvel's "House of M" series.

Shoryuken notes that the costume has caused a bit of controversy in Spain, due to its resemblance to the traditional garb of king Juan Carlos. We suppose it is a bit undignified to see someone who looks just like your monarch being punched by a space raccoon. For that matter, it's probably not the most flattering thing to be indirectly referred to as an "Ancient Warrior."

There's no word on whether the price will change in acknowledgement of the now smaller DLC pack; Capcom said it will announce pricing "closer to launch."

#marvelvscapcom Hey, it's a fighting game update that you don't have to pay for! From Capcom, no less! For those who purchased Capcom's updated worlds-collide fighting game, the publisher's adding a whole new mode to Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3, free of charge. Heroes and Heralds adds a collectible card game system to UMvC3 that tweaks character attributes to add abilities like, say, projectile invincibility. Players will also be able to form clans as well for online battles. There are over 100 cards in H&H mode so, if you choose to participate in the add-on, you'll find a ton of variations. And if you're a fighting game purist, of course, you don't have to mess around with the cosmically enhanced cards. Heroes and Heralds is strictly optional. More »

#marvelvscapcom Some people derided Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 as an incremental update and knocked Capcom for releasing it so soon—six months!—after Marvel vs. Capcom 3. But, since it's the first Marvel vs. Capcom game for an all-new system, you can't lob those same complaints at the PlayStation Vita version of UMvC3. More »

One of the main criticisms that many had with Ultimate Marvel Vs. Capcom 3 was the lack of new modes. Since the Capcom was already double-dipping by releasing both MvC3 games in the same year, the move left a bad taste in many fans' mouths. The one saving grace on the horizon was the promised Heroes...
