In the weeks that have followed the PlayStation All Stars Battle Royale reveal, we’ve been asking you all to stay tuned for more exciting announcements. Well it’s finally time to deliver! We’re very pleased to announce that in addition to coming to the PS3, PlayStation All Stars Battle Royale will also be available on the PS Vita with full Cross Play support! Equally exciting is that Nathan Drake of the famed UNCHARTED series and Big Daddy from the amazing Bioshock universe join us as the latest additions to the PlayStation All Stars roster!

The pick-up and play nature of PlayStation All Stars and the portable power of the PS Vita seem to be made for each other, so bringing the two together was a no-brainer. With Cross Play support, owners of the PS3 and PS Vita versions will be able to play against each other seamlessly, via both local and online play. Both versions of the game feature identical gameplay at a blazing-fast 60 frames-per-second, offering the complete PlayStation All-Stars experience. PlayStation All- Stars PS Vita takes advantage of many of the unique Vita features, including “near” functionality and both front touchscreen and rear touchpad support.

Equally exciting of course is the announcement of two new characters: UNCHARTED’s Nathan Drake and BioShock’s Big Daddy. Nathan Drake is a true PlayStation star known to never miss an opportunity for adventure, making him a perfect addition to our roster. Big Daddy’s introduction may come as a surprise, but we think he’s a character that typifies the celebration that is PlayStation All-Stars. This deep sea giant packs a serious punch when he’s angry, offering a fun play style that’s fresh and exciting.

If you make it out to E3, sure to stop by the Sony booth to check out PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale Vita featuring Cross Play, as well as our two new characters, Nathan Drake and Big Daddy. And of course, stay tuned for more feature announcements leading up to PlayStation All Star’s release this Holiday season.

Keep a minimum distance between these characters, or else all hell breaks loose in PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale.

#playstationallstarsbattleroyale I'm loathe to wander down this path again, after the horror that was Nintendo's marketing push for the last Smash Bros., but these characters are probably important enough to warrant the update: Nathan Drake and BioShock's Big Daddy will be making an appearance in PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale. The IMDB page for PlayStation All-Stars: Battle Royale reveals some more all-stars appearing in the game as some form or another. Listed in the voice cast are Nolan North as Uncharted's Nathan Drake, David Hayter as Snake, Eric Ladin as Infamous's Cole McGrath, and ... Jerry Lambert as fictional executive Kevin Butler.

It's tempting to imagine Kevin Butler's in-game stint as the VP of Special Attacks, but these characters aren't necessarily playable. The game is full of cameos, like Captain Quark in the background of a Ratchet & Clank level. We're asking Sony to clarify this information. Kevin Butler would tell us, if he existed.

Update: For its part, Sony said it didn't set up the IMDB page. And since IMDB listings can be edited by users, it's entirely possible it was fabricated by a dreamy-eyed fan hoping to will this into existence.

Last week, IGN had the pleasure of attending the reveal event for the long-rumored Sony-centric brawler PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale (once known as Title Fight). We loved what we saw and spent a good amount of time playing the game for ourselves...

We've had hands-on with PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale here at IGN, but we're already left wanting more after Sony and developer SuperBot Entertainment only revealed six characters. But if Internet sleuths on gaming forum NeoGAF are correct, a seventh character may have been prematurely revealed...

PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale, a crazy, mashed-up spin on Smash Bros. starring several characters from Sony platforms, was announced last week. We've got six confirmed participants so far: God of War's Kratos, Sly Cooper, Twisted Metal's Sweet Tooth, Killzone 2's Colonel Radec, Parappa the Rapper, and Fat Princess.

We can name a few more that we'd love to see appear in the game, and we've gathered them for your consideration just beyond the break.

It's a good thing that Sony registered a URL for PlayStation All-Stars: Battle Royale, because developer SuperBot Entertainment has been working on a game named just that!

Though rumors about the title have been swirling since November 2011, Sony is ready to reveal the brawler to the world. Taking cues from Nintendo's mash-up series, Smash Bros., SuperBot's first title sees recognizable PlayStation characters square off in four-player multiplayer arena-based battles. PlayStation All-Stars: Battle Royale is set to hit the PS3 later this year.

Joystiq went hands-on with the game earlier this week and will have a preview available for your late-night reading pleasure momentarily.

It's been rumored for months, and now we finally have official confirmation: PlayStation All-Stars: Battle Royale is Sony's answer to Super Smash Bros. No, that's not just a quick-and-dirty comparison. Look at the PlayStation Blog reveal video above if you don't believe me. It's the same damn concept.

The only way this ends is with a Nintendo lawsuit, right?

Except that now, instead of Mario and Samus and whoever else, you'll have the likes of God of War antihero Kratos, Twisted Metal lead crazy person Sweet Tooth, noted anthropomorphic fox and master thief Sly Cooper, and tragically underused boy/dog/rapper Parappa to play around with. Other announced characters include Colonel Mael Radec from Killzone, and the eponymous Fat Princess of her own game. Sony has hinted that some third-party characters could join the thus far solely first-party cast, though nothing's been confirmed yet.

The action, at least based on the reveal, looks definitively Smash Bros.-like, with multiple players battling it out in Sony-themed arenas, using fairly over-the-top abilities mined from their particular universes. Again, you can get a decent look at the action in motion via the promotional video above, so I probably don't need to describe it in too much detail.

Now that we know it's out there, all that's left to do is speculate wildly about what characters would make good combatants in a PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale. I'll get the discussion kicked off with a few suggestions of my own:

  • Piposaru - Considering the terrible things Sony has been doing with the Ape Escape franchise of late, the least they could do is let me run around smacking Nathan Drake and Kratos as a mischievous, siren helmet-wearing monkey. The sheer variety of weaponry he'd have at his disposal alone makes this an attractive option.
  • The King of All Cosmos - Katamari started out as a PlayStation franchise, and I would certainly consider the King a PlayStation All-Star. His enormous size might be tough to insert into the game, but I'm sure the developers could think of something. Preferably something that properly leverages his smooth, royal charm, and preternatural crotch bulge.
  • Reiko Nagase - With the exception of Gran Turismo, what driving franchise is more closely associated with the PlayStation brand than Ridge Racer? I have no idea what her abilities would be, except for a particularly brutal special move where she calls in a drift car to essentially clear the entire track. Also, any time she knocks out an opponent, Kaz Hirai's head will pop up Dan Forden style to let out a particularly hearty "RIIIIIIIIIIIIDGE RACER!" It never gets old, people.
  • System Update - You play as a sentient, partially completed progress bar whose sole ability is to slow down time to an excruciating crawl. All the players on the field eventually die of boredom.
  • Anonymous - An unplayable boss character that appears as a swarm of V for Vendetta masks and immediately disconnects you from the PlayStation Network. You won't be able to reconnect your console online until you beat them. Fortunately, they're all malnourished and out-of-shape due to their constant computer use, so you pretty much just have to hit them once to win. It's actually kind of anticlimactic.

What have you got?

After months of rumors, Sony has officially revealed PlayStation All-Stars: Battle Royale, a brawler featuring multiple franchises from the PlayStation library. As suggested back in November, the PlayStation 3 title is in development at SuperBot Entertainment. The now-official game was available for hands-on sessions at a recent PlayStation event in Los Angeles.

The basic conceit of the game is that Sony decided to clone the concepts behind Nintendo's Smash Bros. series or Capcom's Power Stone. PlayStation All-Stars fits that characterization almost exactly: characters from various video game worlds battle in arenas, environments are pulled from recognizable franchises, and everything boils into an evolving bucket of crazy.

But that doesn't discount that PlayStation All-Stars was a fun game to play, with some unique ideas that turn it into the video game equivalent of the instant-classic PlayStation television ad "Michael." Sure, it's Smash Bros. with PlayStation characters, but given the choice between Waluigi and Kratos, I'll gladly go with the God of War.

Let's not beat around the bush: PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale has blatantly and unabashedly borrowed from Nintendo's ubiquitous brawler Super Smash Bros. in innumerable ways. But let's not sell it short, either. Even though All-Stars pays serious homage to what came before it, it still looks like a game that the PlayStation Faithful will absolutely eat-up in droves...
