A portion of an ONM review...

On a console fobbed off with missing features and C-team ports, Legends is desperate to please and more than capable of delivering. Barmy, brilliant and the best GamePad advert to date: consider us excited about Wii U again.

Coming from an ONM review...

Score: 92/100

(+) A turnaround of ideas to rival Mario Galaxy
(+) Asymmetric Multiplayer finally done rights
(-) Not quite as good for the lone wolves

- multiplayer 'is more welcoming that New Super Mario Bros U's, mainly thanks to heroes being able to pass through each other and the absence of a life counter'
- sometimes the game's focus on multiplayer is at the expense of single player
- praise for the difficulty level
- 'core' levels are relatively easy (which will last around 7 hours apparently
- optional stages and 'invaded' have brutal difficulty
- on the controls 'this is what the Gamepad is for'
- great replay value

I hadn’t entirely forgotten that Rayman Legends is coming out on PC, but I had put it to the back of my mind as something to be enjoyed in the distant future. It’s a mark of how quickly this year has slipped through my fingers that the once distant future is now the end of this very month. While I’m slightly horrified that several months seem to have passed without notice, I’m pleased that a return to Michel Ancel’s world of glorious jazzy nonsense is just around the temporal corner. The video below shows a musical level, which looks as precise and demanding as the chest-chases in last year’s Rayman: Oranges. Prepare to hum.

The latest musical level for Rayman Legends uses a memorable track from the Kill Bill series, but in a manic underwater setting. Check out the latest Legends video now!

If you haven't yet had a chance to play the Rayman Legends Challenges App, now's the time! Players who have downloaded and played the Wii U App before 28 August will have the Online Challenges cups they earned and Level of Awesomeness transferred to Rayman Legends. They will also receive an exclusive "Funky Ray" bonus costume to unlock in Rayman Legends!

Thanks to Sergio for the heads up!

Perhaps rather predictably, Ubisoft have just announced that the follow-up to the excellent Rayman Oranges, Rayman Legends, will be coming to PC. And even better news – on the same day as all the other formats, 30th August. To celebrate there are some screenshots, which are like a trailer, but very, very slow-moving.

Ancel talked about working with the GamePad on Rayman Legends, specifically the touchscreen elements. The GamePad touch screen works better with a stylus than a finger press, which lead Ancel to say, "to me, it's not very natural to play with the stylus. I think most of the kids now are more comfortable with tablets, they use their fingers. So we did some special developments to interpolate what the player is doing. It's more accessible than most of the other Wii U games."
