When Activision issued a press release about pre-order incentives for the upcoming GoldenEye 007: Reloaded, my eyebrows raised a bit. Like most games these days, it would come with pre-order incentives.
Specifically, GameStop's pre-order incentive would be the game's infamous paintball mode, a cherished option (especially in multiplayer) from the original game. The idea that players would be forced to purchase from a specific retailer to tap into their nostalgia sounded suspect.
This was the confusing quote in question:
Starting today, fans can pre-order GoldenEye 007: Reloaded at GameStop to receive a unique exclusive code to unlock the Paintball Mode Modifier in Split-screen and Online private multiplayer matches. This fan-favorite modifier causes bullets to leave behind paint splats on walls and surfaces all across the map. Additionally, they'll receive early access into the Classic Conflict Mode in Online public and private multiplayer modes.Fortunately, everything's in the clear. These pre-order incentives simply unlock modes early.
"If you don’t pre-order the game from GameStop you’ll still be able to play the Paintball mode, but you’ll need to unlock it by progressing through the game," said an Activision representative to me today.
That should apply to the other pre-order incentives, as well.
It almost feels better this way, anyway. Paintball wasn't a freebie in GoldenEye, remember?
Complete Dam on Secret Agent in 2:40 or less.Getting that one was simple. I don't think my friends and I ever unlocked Invinsibility, which required this:
Complete Facility on 00 Agent in 2:05 or less.Just thinking about that one's giving me nightmares again.
