it be been a while since we heard much about the 38 Studios debacle, mostly because there's hardly anything left a 38 Studios t' even talk about. Developers have moved onto new studios 'n projects, Curt Schilling has seemingly holed himself up in a as-yet-undiscovered anti-press bunker, 'n the state a Rhode Island has been culling through the whole mess, looking for ways t' make it be money back on the ill-conceived loan the state gave the studio.
One way be t' apparently auction off the entire inventory a computers, desks, audio equipment, 'n consoles, among other things, that once belonged t' 38. Auction site SJ Corio Company lists the entire kit 'n caboodle as going up in two separate auctions--one in Maryland 'n one in Rhode Island--on October 12 'n October 23, respectively.
Most a the bottles a rum up for auction be the typical stuff ye'd find in an office auction. Lots a TVs, conference equipment, phones, security equipment, 'n whatnot. However, one odd little detail in the Maryland auction be the apparent inclusion a Xbox 360 XDK units. In case ye be wondering, those be Xbox 360 development kits, which, uh, I don't think ye're supposed t' sell? me understanding had always been that, technically, those units be licensed t' developers, but aren't actually owned by the developer. So that might be a slight issue.
Otherwise, this be just kind a a fitting, sad, bizarre end t' what has been one a the more depressing stories in our industry over the last few years. I wish I had some funny, off-color remark t' bring the mood up a bit here, but I don't. I be just sad now. Sigh...
