Here are screen grabs of the entire world (broken up into three images) at about 7:30 eastern time (after it had been wiped clean a few times). I know people kept going, so who knows how far up they went.

Thanks for helping me test things out. There were some strange glitches for sure. Probably caused mostly by the blocks, which I just threw in last minute to give you all something to do.

The "real" game probably wont have free-placement of blocks like that. But instead you would be creating the buildings and objects to go inside them.

god dammit i was right up in that last part too
it's really cool so far. How long do you think it will take before it's more playable?

ill probably do another round of fixes to the current game so you can keep messing around with it. Then I'll add more levels and building interiors.

Reply by Nastasia 12 years ago
we journeyed long and far and we have seen the true end
we tested the limits of the world and this is the end of the line
our attempt to break free of our confinement was in vain, and we all died that day
and so ends the short story of the digibutter game

i should have known that the first time i saw my head disappear was a bad omen of the future and now this is what it has come to

i know this is an early beta but when are you going to add something fun because so far all your updates just made it lamer
Reply by Fortran 12 years ago
yeah, i agree...i was even having a little fun when we had infinite blocks, but now there's nothing to do. i cant even consider this an alpha anymore, its less than that now
Reply by Nastasia 12 years ago
You might want to incorporate some form of authentication in your connection code Francis. Right now it's pretty easy to impersonate another user (as well as steal any blocks in their inventory) just by tweaking the username and avatar variables passed to the game page.

Sorry, infinite blocks was making the game unplayable for a lot of people. And I thought a limitation on inventory would help encourage teamwork and more thoughtful creations. It's also more realistic. like ZombiU, you can only carry so much stuff.

At the very least the block count needs to be increased. 50 blocks is only just enough to build the walls of a small room and some minor decorations.
And technically, limiting the number of blocks per player won't permanently solve the issue of the map getting flooded - if enough people use the game (or if one person connects multiple times under different usernames), each with 50 blocks that they place in the world, the map will eventually fill up anyway.

limited blocks is a good idea, but not when there's no way to get more. it works in minecraft and terraria because the world is made of them, so you can always get more. we can't do that in betalands, so all we can do is run until we hit a wall.

I would rather have an unlimited skybox than unlimited blocks to be honest, if anything get rid of the skybox limit
Reply by Fallen Shade 12 years ago
I think the world size certainly needs to be bigger, but I don't think it need to necessarily be infinite, after all francis said he'd be doing multiple rooms eventually.
