As you text-skippers have already noticed, there's been a pretty significant shake-up in this week's Japanese hardware sales chart, with all three incarnations of the Nintendo DS getting substantial sales boosts. There's been a lot of speculation as to how these increases came about -- most seem to think it has something to do with Japan's recent discounting of all three handhelds, as well as the introduction of new colors for the current king supreme, the DSi LL.

Our guess? The gamers of Japan have found their desire to purchase the 3DS to be so overwhelming, that they've settled for a more immediate alternative: Purchasing three DSs. Sure, this option doesn't provide them with the depth of display which the recently announced handheld will provide, but we imagine that, if aligned end-to-end and turned on simultaneously, the three handhelds should provide players with unparalleled amounts of width.

- DSi LL: 30,183 19,045 (170.99%)
- PSP: 20,929 733 (3.38%)
- Wii: 19,045 1,543 (7.49%)
- DSi: 18,214 8,042 (79.06%)
- PS3: 17,175 501 (2.83%)
- DS Lite: 5,126 2,018 (64.93%)
- Xbox 360: 2,060 1,165 (36.12%)
- PS2: 1,568 277 (21.46%)
- PSP Go: 837 119 (16.57%)
