When future civilizations dig up the remnants ours, they will learn that our fall was predicated by a single event. Namely, Brandon Jones' porting of Team Fortress 2 to WebGL (i.e. web browsers). Thankfully, it's merely a demonstration and isn't actually playable - yet. Frankly, if someone manages to make Team Fortress 2 even more accessible, we're not sure humanity will have the mental fortitude to withstand it.

You can learn more about the technical aspects of the demo (or even download the source code) over at Jones' website, TojiCode.

Valve loves itself so much that it puts its own games into other studios' work on Steam -- we don't want to call it incestuous, but, well. It's kind of incestuous. Dungeon Defenders is the latest victim game to have a healthy Valve infusion, with pre-orders getting The Aperture Science Handheld Portal Device for the Huntress class and four Team Fortress 2 familiars, Heavy, Medic, Engineer and Pyro. Check out how these goodies work above and pre-order Dungeon Defenders on Steam, if you're into that sort of thing.

What do the names Brad Paisley, Kenny Chesney and Tim McGraw have in common? If you guessed "three people who've delivered my mail," then you know as much about country as we do, because apparently they're all incredibly famous country music stars.

Anyway, check out this awesome new Team Fortress 2 theme song that's had us chuckling all afternoon. It was written and performed by someone called brentalfloss, who we assume is also an incredibly famous country music star, like Garth Yoakum or Miley Cyrus's dad. And if he's not super-famous, he should be.

Adam wrote about visually delightful side-scrolling TF2 demake Team Fortress Arcade just the other week. It’s true, he did! I have proof. The problem was the game wasn’t actually out then, which looked like we were teasing you with a cool thing you couldn’t actually play. That’s because we are rotters, and want you to experience only suffering. But now it is out, which means you can play it right now.

Don’t think that gets you off the hook, though. We’ll find some new way to make you suffer any minute now. Maybe it’ll be my forthcoming Xenonauts hands-on preview. Maybe it’ll be Jim’s review of the Deus Ex: Human Revolution DLC. Maybe it’ll be that dead stoat I hid under your bed. Or maybe we’ll say something you disagree with about a game you’re fond of. Truly, our cruelty knows no bounds.

Itching to get your hands on the Team Fortress beat-em-up demake from Eric Ruth? Well, itch no more, as Team Fortress Arcade is now available as a free PC download. Team Fortress Arcade takes Valve's popular shooter and turns it into an old-school, 4-player arcade romp, complete with player abilities based on each class' weaponry (everything from turrets to sticky bombs).

You can grab it now from PikiGeek (again, it's free).

Another lazy Saturday, another attempt at browsing Netflix (or waiting for your Qwikster DVDs, you neanderthal), more multicolored bowls of Fruity Pebbles. If you want something more exciting than Ip Man and a sugar rush this weekend, check out the Team Fortress 2 and Counter-Strike ESEA Season 9 LAN Finals right here, live from Dallas, Texas. The Finals will crown a champion tomorrow, where all winning teams will get a split of the $67,000 pot. Not too shabby for a well-timed frag.

Books. Psh. Who cares, right? You're probably saying to yourself, "If I wanted to read, I wouldn't have already stopped reading this blog post." But what if we were to tell you that books are like hats for the inside of your head? And then while you're busy pondering that, what if we were to tell you that John Patrick Lowrie - voice of the Sniper and real life husband of the Administrator - has written a book? And that it's a science fiction epic called Dancing With Eternity. And that it's available now on Amazon! GO BUY IT! DON'T WAIT!

Did you buy it? Okay, now wait. Just practice reading by reading this sentence over and over until Dancing With Eternity arrives, and then move on to the next paragraph.

Now that you have your first book, you're probably poking at it with a pen, asking yourself, "what does it do?" Is it sitting there quietly doing absolutely nothing? Because that's what it does! So congratulations book lover, you've entered an exclusive club called literacy whose members include several U.S. Presidents and Margaret Atwood.

And that's not all. Once you're done reading this dystopian page turner (note: it will not actually turn its own pages), shut off your flashlight, climb out from under your bed, and get ready for the best part: This website will teach you how to turn every single one of Dancing With Eternity's 417 (probably sex-filled) pages into an awesome origami ninja hat. It's simple economics: You're trading one piece of paper for nearly 420 pieces of paper! Get in on this Ponzi scheme before John Patrick Lowry goes to prison!

Some of you may remember a dinky demake of Left 4 Dead that Alec posted about at the tail-end of the previous decade. The chap behind it, Eric Ruth, clearly loves nothing more than making retro-pixel-tributes because he’s done a few more as well. There’s one about electronic rackets (not to be confused with Pong, which was electronic racquets) and another starring some gaudy green space marine. You know of what I speak. His upcoming project is another Valve-inspired title though, and it looks like a lot of fun. It’s Team Fortress 2 Arcade: a sidescrolling beat/shoot ‘em up. Here’s an interview and some gameplay footage captured on film by piki geek.

Valve has announced that its Steam Trading beta program has ended and that the service is now available to all Steam users. Steam Trading allows users to trade in-game items with one another. At the moment, the only games to support the new service are Team Fortress 2, Portal 2 and Spiral Knights. Valve notes, however, that it is "working with other developers to incorporate Trading and Inventories into their games, so keep an eye out for future announcements in the coming months."

Perhaps more interesting than the ability to trade in-game items, however, is the ability to trade Steam gifts. Any game that was purchased as a gift (or as an extra copy as part of a bundle) can be traded for items or other Steam gifts. Naturally, there are some restrictions, most notably that any such game must never have been played. Once a Steam gift has been opened, it can no longer be traded.

As part of the service, all Steam users now have an inventory that can be viewed by other users (so long as your profile is public). Check out the full Steam Trading FAQ here.

At any rate, as of today Steam Trading is officially out of beta, in the Steamworks SDK, and available to everyone. Two new games will now have tradable in-game items: Spiral Knights, the cooperative adventure from Three Rings and Sega, and our own Portal 2. And remember, this is just the beginning. We can't wait to see what our fellow gamers and developers are going to come up with to move Steam Trading forward.

To celebrate, items are on sale in the Team Fortress 2, Portal 2, and Spiral Knights in-game stores.
