Sony has announced on its European forums that maintenance time has been scheduled for the PlayStation Network this Thursday, February 2, from 2PM GMT until 8AM Friday morning. If the maintenance carries over to the US (and it usually does), it'll start at 6AM PST Thursday until midnight PST, or 9AM to 3AM for those of you on the East Coast.

Fortunately, the outage doesn't seem to include gameplay -- Sony says that it will only affect the PS Store, Customer Account Management and Registration services. PlayStation Home, however, will be offline the entire time. So ... that doesn't sound so bad! Just pour yourself a cup of tea, grab something good to read and wrap yourself in a warm blanket, and the outage will be over before you know it.

Dr. Abraham Zucco — eccentric billionaire, brilliant anthropologist, and global adventurer — has traveled the world far and wide in search of the Yeti or “Abominable Snowman.” Recent sightings and mysterious footprints have convinced the famed explorer that an entire colony of creatures is somewhere in PlayStation Home. The wealthy hunter has offered great rewards to anyone who can capture the violent and territorial beast. This Wednesday, January 25th, scores of hunters will descend on PlayStation Home to take down these vicious monsters. They’ll quickly learn that these creatures don’t go down without a fight, and that they’ve enlisted the help of some sympathetic souls that prefer hunting people to gunning down large humanoids. Which side will you be on?

This Wednesday also sees the launch of VEEMEE’s Go Fish Tropical Island personal space. Invite your friends over to play Go Fish! from the pier. Owners receive an aquarium they can place in any personal space to show off their fish collection, as well as a variety of exclusive unlockable clothing and furniture rewards. Cast off and wrestle with a variety of exotic fish, ranging from the Psychedelic Leery to the Toxic Moofty and the Tribal Tatsnarf. If you can manage to catch them all – including the three Legendary Fish – and receive the highly-coveted Underwater Apartment absolutely free! What could be better at the end of a hard days fishing than relaxing in your own crib under the sea, watching the fish go by?

Lockwood’s Cucumber line isn’t just about eye-popping colors (although there are still some of those in their latest collection) they also have a strong desire to create useable sets that will help you set the scene in your personal space. Whether the look you’re aiming to achieve is one of contemporary chic or peaceful comfort that expresses your personality, Cucumber has the furniture for you. Large double beds in a variety of colors with matching drawers and lamps are coming to the Lockwood Publishing store this Wednesday. Check ‘em out!

The PlayStation Home Community Theater will be updated on Wednesday with Replay with Doc’s interview with Twisted Metal’s legendary game director David Jaffe (God of War, Calling All Cars) and the latest from HomeCast Rewind. Those of you that come by will even receive a limited-edition Replay with Doc reward!

The PlayStation Home Mall is getting updated this week with new farm animal companions (baby chicken, pig, sheep, and donkey – available as a bundle), new animated gold and silver accessories, and new additions to Konami’s line of Urban Camo items.

That’s not all – we have a new Quest releasing this Wednesday to help you celebrate Groundhog’s Day. Go to the Activity Board to take the Rodent’s Prediction Quest and earn this exclusive groundhog companion!

This Wednesday, January 11th will see yet another enormous update to PlayStation Home, with new games to play, a massive expansion to one of our most popular titles, and tons of collectible items. For starters, our friends over at Digital Leisure are opening the doors to their all-new Casino game space. Many of you have been asking for more casino-styled games since the launch of PlayStation Home Hold ‘Em and we’re proud to serve up an extremely elegant game space plucked straight from the Strip with all of the fun of a Vegas vacation without the high cost of admission.

From Blackjack and Poker and Casino War to Big Six Wheel and Keno and Slots, we’ve got you covered no matter what your game of choice is. Of course, no PlayStation Home game would be complete without some seriously awesome rewards, so Digital Leisure decided to add over 100 of them, including clothing, furniture, and even a luxury hotel room befitting the highest of high rollers (not that you’ll be doing much sleeping once the Casino releases…) Pick up your chips from the Casino’s cashier and let it ride. Those of you that arrive early will get comped some sweet goods just for stopping by!

Hellfire Games is proud to announce that Novus Prime: Vindication, the newest expansion for our multiplayer space shooter Novus Prime, is coming to PlayStation Home this Wednesday, January 11th. We’ve been hard at work on Vindication for several months, and we’re looking forward to hearing what you all think! Here’s a preview of what to expect with the newest expansion:

Leveling Up the Core Experience

Since the launch of Novus Prime in December 2010, we’ve learned a lot about what our players enjoy most about the Novus Prime experience. With Vindication, we knew we had to deliver more missions, ships, weapons, avatar items, outfits, and more – but we’re also excited to give our community their #1 request: raising the level cap from 20 to 30 and adding tons of new rewards!

With the new expansion, players will now unlock rewards at every other level. This means players who’ve already reached the rank of Captain at level 20 will instantly earn several rewards when they log in to Novus Prime: Vindication. Newcomers will earn more rewards than ever before as they rise up the ranks to Commander.

Players will find several new items in the shop to improve their game experience in Novus Prime, including the Tech Goggles & Enemy Scanner bundle, the super-fast Obsidian Blade fighter ship, and our new Memory Conditioning Conduit bundle, which comes with three virtual items and permanently triples your XP point gains so you can rank up even faster.

Meet the Obsidian Race

We’re also expanding Novus Prime’s lore as the new playable Obsidian race joins Earth Fleet against the Bot armada. Aside from some concept art we’ve cleverly hidden away in Novus Prime’s VIP area, not much has been made public about the Obsidian race until now. With Vindication, everyone can join the fight as an Obsidian fighter with the Obsidian Pilot Suit bundle, which comes with some seriously unique custom animations as well as the Obsidian Blade, the fastest player ship in the game.

Here’s your first glimpse at the new Obsidian technology before Vindication goes live:

Finally, we know our veteran players have been clamoring for more missions (that’s our second most requested update), so we’ve truly expanded Novus Prime’s core content this time around. Novus Prime: Vindication delivers two challenging new missions (“Claustrophobia” and “Wrecker’s Waltz”) as well as Master versions of every current mission, so there’s no shortage of adventures to be had with your friends in the cold confines of space. Keep an eye out for the new Executioner mini-boss!

More Ways to Join the Fight

We’re big fans of the recently-redesigned PlayStation Home core experience, and one of its coolest features is the opportunity to find great new games in each of the Districts. Starting January 11th, players can warp straight to the Novus Prime space station from our new Action District location – just look for the colossal hovering spaceship.

Last but not least, we’re celebrating the launch of Novus Prime: Vindication and our recent 1-year anniversary in PlayStation Home by giving away this free Personal Lightning Shield virtual item as a token of appreciation for our fans!

This Thursday, December 8th, we will release the latest update to the PlayStation Home client. PlayStation Home version 1.60 delivers a wealth of improvements and updates to the core client, not the least of which is a doubling of the item placement limit in personal spaces! Here’s a look at what’s coming to you as part of PlayStation Home v1.60:

How to Apply the v1.60 Patch
If you are upgrading from an old version of Home (v1.40 or earlier) then when you attempt to apply the v1.60 patch please wait for the orange “hard drive activity” light to stop flashing on your PS3 before commencing the patching process.

NEW FEATURES

Furniture Placement Limit We have doubled the furniture placement limit in personal spaces and clubhouses from 50 to 100 items. Standard and active furniture limits have been merged into the same system. Currently all actives take up 22 furniture slots in the new system. Thus you can now place a variety of different combinations:
  • 100 standard furniture items or…
  • 78 standard furniture items and 1 active or…
  • 56 standard furniture items and 2 actives or…
  • 34 standard furniture items and 3 actives or…
  • 12 standard furniture items and 4 actives.

GENERAL IMPROVEMENTS

Targeting in Personal Spaces Targeting in personal spaces has been improved. This means you shouldn’t accidentally target furniture items through floors or ceilings any more.
  • Although we have made exceptions for wall hangings and lights as these tend to be placed quite high up.
  • If you find any items of furniture in places you can’t reach then you can always remove them through the furniture browser and place them somewhere else.
Portable Items and Companions We have changed the way that companion portables work so they will now automatically re-activate after you enter and leave a game or relocate between spaces. No more having to put your companion away and take them out again when you do this! Help System There is a new help system to aid new users as they explore PlayStation Home for the first time. Arcade Games Arcade games are no longer subject to the 3 minute inactivity timeout when placed as furniture in Personal Spaces or Clubhouses.

CHANGES

Menu Pad We have removed the “Community” section of the Menu Pad. The information that used to be contained in here is now communicated via the Message of the Day pop-up at login and the new loading screens.

Of course, there are plenty more bug fixes and enhancements that are part of v1.60 as well which will help improve your day-to-day experience in the wide world of PlayStation Home. There are also additional tools for developers that will enable them to make better games than ever before possible on the platform are coming as part of this massive update. We’re excited to bring you a bigger, better PlayStation Home just in time for the holidays. Log in this Thursday to check out this upgrade and, as always, please give us your feedback at the official PlayStation Home forums.

In other news, it appears that ol’ Granny Lockwood’s been hard at work again, and this time she’s taken her inspiration from the chilly extremes of the planet the North and South Poles! Pumpkin Pie the Polar Bear and Popsicle the Penguin can’t wait to play with you. They both love to do tricks – be patient and they’re sure to show you what they can do (Granny Lockwood also knitted them some cousins just for the Gift Machine – look out for them – they’re only available for a limited time!)

Midwinter Angel or Burning Desire? This Winter Medusa line brings you the latest hairstyles, perfect for relaxing on a frosty afternoon or heading out to a glitzy evening party. Men have the choice of a new short, mid-length, or long look. The Troy is a side-parted, clean-cut look with just enough tousling to ensure it won’t look out of place with smart or casual attire. For those with angelic tendencies, there’s the wavy mid-length Gabriel, and for those who want a more casual look, The Tropical Dreamer is a long dreadlocked style.

Ladies can opt for up, down, or somewhere in-between. Up is The Burning Desire, an exquisitely complex do incorporating pinned waves and plaits, while down is The Eve, with gloriously long waves. The Midwinter Angel offers the best of both worlds, with pinned back sides and long loose locks. If you’re not sure which look to go for, the Medusa’s Winter Hairstyles Packs are available for both Male and Female – mix it up for each party!

Those of you that visit the new PlayStation Home Mall this week will also find awesome new items like VEEMEE’s “Devilrobots” companions and “Smug” furniture line alongside Mass Media’s latest additions to their Weird Wear series and various other items including new animated emoticons, companions (who doesn’t want a peacock?), new items in Threads (such as the Hollywood Celebrity line) and furniture (like the Star Projector)! Log in this Thursday to add these items to your collections! I hear there are going to be some freebies scattered throughout many of the shelves in the Mall this week as well…

For those who may not know, PlayStation Home Clubhouses are unique private spaces where users can invite dozens of their friends to be members of the club, and anyone on the members list can come and go from the space, even when the owner is not present. These are excellent for building and sustaining gaming groups, clans, brotherhoods, sisterhoods, etc. because of this very flexibility and access as an invite-only space.

In addition to all the standard features you’ve come to expect from PlayStation Home Clubhouses, the War Room has a very unique social feature that helps club owners or team leaders get their message across during club meetings or discussions. It also includes a special access point allowing users to teleport from the War Room to other set locations. We’ll have more info regarding this awesome new Clubhouse soon – keep your eyes on this Blog to stay in the loop!

This Thursday, November 10th PlayStation Home will be updated with a variety of virtual items, exclusive videos, expansions to popular community events, and even a huge upgrade to one of the most popular games on the platform. Those of you that own the mega-popular Scribble Shooter – the top-down, shoot ‘em up arcade-style game known for its addictive gameplay and unique art style – will now be able to share the game with your friends. This additional functionality was developed based upon the feedback of the PlayStation Home community, and we’re proud to release this totally free upgrade to all Scribble Shooter fans effective immediately. Enjoy!

Players that go to the newly-opened Pier Park will find that a new level of the classic Turkey Chase event has been released complete with brand new rewards. For those unfamiliar with this PlayStation Home tradition, the premise is simple: In celebration of the impending Turkey Day, players that approach the gathering of turkeys in Pier Park will enter into a game wherein you chase a bunch of wily turkeys around the space (word to the wise: these turkeys are quite cunning so you’d better bring appropriate footwear). If you can manage to catch them all, you will unlock Thanksgiving-themed rewards that are sure to make you an object of envy amongst your peers. Sound borderline insane? Of course it does – which is exactly why we are doing it!

Those of you that visit the new PlayStation Home Mall this week will find some killer deals in our Fall Blowout sale, which has the price being reduced on a ton of classic items. Check out this video for a look at some of the deals my buddy Magnus will be cutting this week as part of our Fall Blowout sale. Be sure to take advantage of this special offer; come next Thursday these items will disappear from our shelves forever!

Speaking of deals that can’t be missed, we’ve bundled up select items and placed them exclusively on the PlayStation Store at a massively discounted price. Go to the PlayStation Store this week to pick up the Alpha Protocol Gear Pack and the Best of nDreams Pack!

That's right, if you've been anxious to see PlayStation Home's transformation for yourself, you'll get a chance to download the new client sometime tomorrow. Or you could just watch a video. Entirely up to you.

As we've covered before, the update brings with it newly themed districts, some free-to-play games and a (hopefully) more useful hub. No specific time for (re)launch was given.

Hello again, PlayStation community! As you might recall from my previous post, I revealed the big plans we had in store for a complete redesign of PlayStation Home—including a brand new Hub, genre-based districts, Total Game Integration, and a new questing system that turns Home itself into a game. Now that we’re getting close to launch, I thought the best way to show off all the new features we’ve packed into the upcoming new core experience would be to give you a tour of the redesign. Check out the below video for a rundown on some of the most exciting new features you’ll be experiencing soon in PlayStation Home:

As you can see, PlayStation Home’s new genre-based districts include a number of diverse and exclusive games that cater to players’ different interests and styles. For example, in the Action District, you’ll be able to enjoy the free and exclusive first-person shooter game that runs inside Home itself, Bootleggers ’29. We’ll also be bringing back some of your favorite Total Game Integration events here such as Dead Island and Killzone 3, as well as feature teleporters to popular games such as Sodium.

If sports are more up your alley, you’ll definitely find yourself at home in the Sportswalk, where players will have access to games like Home Hold’em (a full-featured Texas Hold’em poker game), live sports scores and video highlights, as well as a game of PlayStation Home Sports Trivia where you can reap plenty of rewards. And in Pier Park, you can race your own remote controlled car against friends in RC Rally, or relax with friends and take a ride on the Ferris Wheel. All of this is tied together with a new quest system that turns PlayStation Home itself into a game. All you’ll have to do is check out the Activity Board in the Hub when you’re ready to get started, and you’ll be ready to start racking up the rewards!

I can’t wait for you to jump in and see for yourself all the exciting new things we have in store for you with the PlayStation Home redesign. Stay tuned…it won’t be long now!

Yes, yes, we know the relaunch is coming, but don't expect it this Thursday. PlayStation Home community manager "Locust_Star" posted on the PlayStation Blog today, announcing the 1.55 update and some patch features arriving prior to the big relaunch. Included in 1.55 are an improved "start-up flow," some wardrobe and furniture browser tweaks and the ability to manually clear the PlayStation Home cache on your HDD.

Outside of technical stuff, Home has also added some new costumes, spaces and Loot, a game that lets players record and download their own custom videos right to their hard drives. There's also YouTube functionality for those must-share Quincying moments.
