Twas the day before Christmas, and all through the house, not a creature was stirring... except for Rockstar's marketing department. This morning the developer posted several screenshots on the company's site for Grand Theft Auto 5 to elicit speculation.

There's a swimming with sharks shot, along with a dog in the passenger seat of a car. Drive-by pooches confirmed?! There's also a mini submarine picture, as well as a shot featuring a commercial jet, a fighter jet and a blimp. No word yet if if these are actual player-controlled vehicles for use in the game, but feel free to dream about that tonight, along with sugar plums dancing.

#grandtheftauto Rockstar Games' next giant crime caper is going to be massively huge, big enough to warrant lots of air travel. This we know. But the bathysphere, scuba gear and massive frikkin' shark in these new screens hint that you're also going to diving into some deep underwater hijinks, too. And, hey, dog is your co-pilot, too! How cool does that Rottweiler look in that ride? Cooler than that Fable 2 mutt, that's for sure. More »

The online petition to bring GTA 5 to the PC has amassed many more signatures. Just two days ago the petition had 41,000 signatures and today has exceeded 100,000. The new goal is to get 150,000 people on board.

Rockstar has yet to comment on the petition and has only confirmed GTA 5 for the Xbox 360 and PS3 so far. Count us among those wishing for a PC port, because GTA IV had some of the most inventive mods around.

Over 41,000 gamers have signed an online petition requesting a PC version of next year's open-world crime-caper sim, Grand Theft Auto 5.

Rockstar has said that GTA 5 won't target next-generation consoles, pegging the latest in the iconic series for PS3 and Xbox 360 only - for now, anyway. Rockstar has a history of issuing PC ports a few months after console launch (save for Red Dead Redemption) so perhaps this petition will seem pre-emptive in the long run.

Grand Theft Auto 5 is currently slated to launch during Spring 2013.

In an interview with The Guardian, Houser said he views the seven-year-old incident as an attack on video gaming in general. More »

The recent torrent of marketing and marketing masquerading as news surrounding the latest GTA V trailer came with one unsettling ommission – any mention of a PC version of Rockstar’s newest open world misanthropy odyssey. There’s still no definite news of a release for the One True Format, but Rockstar have at least not ruled it out when the question was put them.(more…)

#grandtheftauto We saw the first Grand Theft Auto V trailer recreated in the original San Andreas (GTA: San Andreas, to be exact). Then someone set it in Grand Theft Auto IV. So, with the second trailer's release earlier this week, it's natural we get that one rebuilt inside IV as well. This is by YouTube user underage117. More »

Rockstar isn't holding Grand Theft Auto 5 for the next generation of consoles, whenever they may appear, because the current generation is "mature" enough to handle what the game has to offer, studio co-founder Dan Houser tells Famitsu (reported by Polygon). Besides, Rockstar isn't about to let any console tell it how to live its life.

"Rockstar is a content company, not a hardware company," Houser says. "We use the technology we have to create content, and we try not to let ourselves get beholden to the hardware. The fact that hardware's so mature right now is exactly why we're able to go on to the next level. GTA 4 was our first attempt at a new platform and HD visuals, so the first part of development was seriously difficult. Now we know what the hardware's capable of, so it's become a lot easier to move things along and a lot more fun, too."

Rockstar isn't only familiar with development for the current generation, but the consoles themselves are at their peak performance, Houser says:

"GTA: San Andreas came out at the peak of the PlayStation 2's cycle, and we put out a really good game thanks to that. All the best games for a console come out at the end of the life cycle, right? So now's the best timing of all."

The second trailer for Grand Theft Auto 5 dropped today, starring the three main protagonists and a dog.

Gee-Tav’s Second Trailer Is Here! Well, below, anyway. It shows us a little bit more of the giant open world’s three-man story of glitzy gangsterism and vehicular vehicularisms. The game, which is due next spring, will apparently feature “yoga, triathlons, Jet Skiing, base-jumping, tennis, golf, scuba diving or go to the gym.” A bit like the RPS office, that. Only with less macho sportsmanship.(more…)

This is Grand Theft Auto 5's second trailer since its debut video hit the net on November 2, 2011 (yes, more than a year ago).

After 12 months of pondering, guessing and asking Take-Two when GTA5 would launch, we finally got a release window of spring 2013 last month. Since then, a stream of information has revealed that GTA5 features three main characters and Los Santos is the largest open world that Rockstar has ever built.

"It was partly just to do something totally new," Rockstar co-founder Dan Houser told the Guardian about the use of three separate protagonists in Grand Theft Auto 5. "Partly, too, it was because at that point we were deep into the work on the two DLC episodes of GTA IV, and we thought, well, the bits where all the stories cross over is kind of cool, so why don't we just do that in one game? So okay, let's just do multiple characters."

The storyline of the game - and remember, GTA games have storylines when you're not just trying to jump motorcycles over buildings or create impressive piles of exploded fire trucks - follows a series of five to six "mega-heists" (the Guardian's term), and three characters who are all involved with the jobs, and with each other.

In fact, the protagonists spend more time hanging out together than with other NPCs, Houser said. "If you're playing as Michael and you want to play a game of tennis, you can call up Franklin and ask him. You are actually getting to see the main bulk of the story and also spend time with these people off-mission - that side of it gives it a vibrancy that's a lot stronger than with [Grand Theft Auto 4's] Roman or anyone else."

#grandtheftauto Rockstar's next game looks to be its biggest ever. In fact, it's supposed to outstrip the combined size of the three of the publisher's most massive releases. Some folks worried when they heard about GTA V's size. Would the quality suffer? Would there be enough to do? Sure, there will, says one of Rockstar's co-founders in a new interview. There will be flying. And apparently, lots of it. More »
