In a new interview with Play Magazine, Obisidian CEO Feargus Urquhart addresses the launch of Fallout: New Vegas -- which was, uh, pretty ugly. On Xbox 360, the game is still very much plagued by issues.

"Now in the case of Fallout: New Vegas, we made a gigantic game, and I'm proud with what we were able to do but I wish it wasn't as glitchy when it came out," said Urquhart in the interview (as excerpted on NowGamer). "The criticisms people had are fair, but it's difficult to get a game the size of New Vegas bug free. But that's an excuse, and it doesn't matter when someone's paid $60 for a game. It's something we need to work on."

With the launch of Dungeon Siege 3 on the immediate horizon, Urquhart offered his reassurances that Obsidian is placing extra emphasis on quality assurance for the game -- a process of "playing and playing and playing and playing to ensure it's of a high standard," he emphasized. "On top of this," Urquhart added, "this is the first time we've got to use our own technology on something, which means we know where to find the bad bugs from the start!"

The full interview will be published in Issue 205 of Play Magazine, which hits UK newsstands this Thursday.

With save game funny business reportedly sorted out, those desiring more adventures in the Wasteland can start anticipating three downloadable expansions for Fallout: New Vegas. There are three packs arriving between now and July, one per month: Honest Hearts, Old World Blues and Lonesome Road.

The first pack, Honest Hearts, arrives on May 17, and drops Vault Dwellers into a tribal war within Utah's Zion National Park after being raided. You'll also encounter someone named the Burned Man.

In June (Bethesda has not specified a specific release date), Old World Blues pits you and a bunch of pre-war technology against a bunch of Mojave creatures scarred and changed by various experiments.

Finally, Lonesome Road rounds out the world of expandable New Vegas in July. This one will "bring the courier's story full circle," as players are contacted by the original Courier Six, Ulysses, to learn more about the Platinum Chip and why one would decide to refuse delivering it.

There's no indication any expansion will have the same effect as Fallout 3's Broken Steel, which let you continue after the main campaign. As Lonesome Road could possibly fit that profile, I've asked.

All three packs will arrive simultaneously on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC.

Can't argue with large statues of two dudes shaking hands.

Bethesda is betting you're ready for a return to the irradiated glitz and glamor of Fallout: New Vegas with three new DLC offerings, coming in as many months.

On May 17, "Honest Hearts" (a title you likely remember from last month's leak) will pit you against a tribal band of raiders in Utah's Zion National Park. In June, you'll be taken captive and and turned lab rat in "Old World Blues," ... that is until you fight back using info you'll gather in the Big Empty. Come July, you'll be able to journey down "The Lonesome Road," which "brings the courier's story full circle" and lets you confront the original Courier Six (whose refusal to deliver the Platinum Chip started the whole mess).

Each pack will run $9.99 and be released simultaneously on Xbox 360, PC and (fingers crossed) PSN.

An artist's depiction of the latest patch. Hold onto your butts, Vault Dwellers.

Even though Xbox Live is demanding you update your copy of Fallout: New Vegas with the latest patch, publisher Bethesda Softworks is separately demanding you decline the update.

What? Exactly.
Players have reported repeated crashes on Xbox 360, after the update. Bethesda looked into it and found plenty of validity to the claims...

"Regarding the Xbox 360 update, we’ve discovered a solution to the issue that’s causing problems with game saves," said the company on its blog. "We’ll be hosting a replacement update on Xbox LIVE as soon as humanly possible. If you haven’t grabbed the New Vegas update on 360 today, we recommend you decline the update until the new one is live. We’ll be sure to let you know when it’s up."

That's right: a patch for a patch! Such if the age of games we live in, apparently, though one has to wonder how a botched patch survived both development and certification without anyone catching this bad boy.

I love me some Fallout, but this? This isn't right.

The recent patch for Fallout: New Vegas on Xbox 360 is gonna need a patch. Bethesda has confirmed that it has found a solution to an issue in the current patch, causing "problems with game saves." The company says it will replace the corrupting patch "as soon as humanly possible."

It's not clear what will happen to save files for people who already downloaded the broken patch, but the company recommends users "decline the update until the new one is live." We've followed up with the publisher for more details.

Rather quietly, Fallout: New Vegas and Dungeon Siege III developer Obsidian Entertainment laid off an unspecified number of staff last week.

Since finishing Fallout: New Vegas, Obsidian has continued to work with Bethesda Softworks on downloadable content for the title. It's likely the summer-bound Dungeon Siege III is nearing completion, so while layoffs are always unfortunate news, it's commonplace as projects begin to wrap up.

As initially noticed by , the Obsidian message boards have collected farewells, sign-offs and goodbyes from some developers affected by changes.

Fallout: New Vegas kept the franchise moving, while Bethesda moved onto other projects.
"11 years, nearly a dozen shipped titles, Designer, Lead, Producer, cancelled game, survived 7 layoffs, 8th got me," tweeted now-former producer Akil Hooper, part of the company for nearly four years. "Not a bad track record.

"Today marks my 3 year anniversary working at Obsidian Entertainment," said gameplay programmer Justin Reynard. "To my coworkers (and sadly the ones we've lost) you guys are amazing.<3"

"No longer work at Obsidian," said former quality assurance tester Ashley Better. "I guess this means I will have to start buying my own pens. [...] As a follow up, not going to go into details, it is fine no harsh feelings anywhere."

I've contacted Obsidian for further details on the layoffs, and will update this story if I hear back.

Apparently a PC Game of the Year edition for Fallout: New Vegas briefly surfaced over on Amazon UK, though the listing has since been pulled. It was spotted by VG247, who unfortunately did not take a screen capture.

The Amazon page listed a price of £20.62, 30 percent off the current MSRP of £29.99 for Fallout: New Vegas. The listing also failed to provide box art and package contents, though if Fallout 3's GOTY edition is any indication, it'll include all the released DLC, which for this game means Dead Money and possibly the Honest Hearts pack.

The post-launch support team at Bethesda and Obsidian is preparing to launch a fix for one of the biggest issues still facing Fallout: New Vegas. No, not its apocalyptic levels of irradiation -- the game-crashing bugs and other performance-wrecking snafus that pepper the game's ruined landscape. According to a recent post on Bethesda's blog, a patch targeting "optimizations and stability improvements" is currently in the certification process for PC, Xbox 360 and PS3.

Though the blog post doesn't go into specifics, it does mention, "we have fixed a great deal of the crashes and lockups that people were experiencing," and later adds, "we scoured the forums and this patch includes weapon balance tweaks and other requested fixes." The update also prepares for an upcoming add-on -- likely the "Honest Hearts" DLC. Bethesda suggests you keep an eye out for the patch "in the next couple of weeks." We will! We might just keep two eyes out.

Fallout fansite Duck and Cover has obtained alleged screenshots from an unpublished New Vegas DLC trailer, reportedly confirming that the next add-on will be titled "Honest Hearts." Bethesda previously announced that three DLC packs would follow "Dead Money," and each would be released simultaneously for the game's three platforms.

The "Honest Hearts" phrase has been trademarked by Bethesda parent ZeniMax and is part of the filename of an in-game graffiti asset for New Vegas (pictured), which references the Fallout city of New Canaan and character Joshua Graham (a.k.a. the Burned Man). Both were elements of Black Isle's canceled Fallout 3 project, codenamed Van Buren, and it's been speculated that New Canaan and Graham will make their long-overdue appearances in an upcoming New Vegas add-on.

Following DAC's posting of the supposed trailer images, New Vegas lead designer J.E. Sawyer teased fans when he tweeted, "every time someone asks me about future DLC announcements, the ghost of joshua graham sighs in the desert and scares a tribal to death." In the Fallout universe, Graham was a former Mormon missionary and later the first legate of New Vegas antagonist Caesar. Graham led Caesar's Legion in the First Battle of Hoover Dam and was defeated. Infuriated, Caesar ordered his execution, and Graham was set ablaze and tossed into the Grand Canyon.

Bethesda has a media event scheduled for this week in Utah, where the (fictional) New Canaan is also located. Sawyer has hinted that "Honest Hearts" is a reference to a quote by the Mormom leader Brigham Young: "Honest hearts make for honest actions."

Miss Fortune is smiling on you, friend, and motioning towards your local GameStop with her gleaming silver revolver. That's where you'll find almost all versions -- PS3, 360, PC -- of Bethesda's mighty fine post-apocalyptic RPG, Fallout: New Vegas, on sale for $20. It's probably best to act quickly if you've been wanting a copy, as there's no mention of when this 66 percent markdown expires.

Wait, did we say almost all versions? That's right: the downloadable PC version is still 60 bucks. Some would call that extra $40 for a version that doesn't even have packaging a silly mistake; GameStop would probably call it a "convenience fee."

[Thanks, Eric K.]

If you're a PS3 or PC owner who's been out of the loop on all this "Dead Money" business, you might be under the impression that it's actually the name of some kind of new, SoCal-based hip-hop dance crew. This impression is wildly incorrect. It's actually the name of a DLC expansion to Fallout: New Vegas that's been available on 360 since December -- though your native console has access to it starting today.

The DLC is available now on Steam, and will arrive in the PlayStation Store update later today. It's all yours, provided you've got $9.99 to spend -- which is kind of appropriate, since it would more or less make that money "dead." Well, dead to you, anyways. Bethesda will find said money quite alive.

Fallout: New Vegas' Dead Money DLC will have PlayStation 3 and PC users playing its vicious little scenario on Tuesday, February 22. PS3 owners can pick it up through the PSN, while PC owners have the choice of Steam and Direct2Drive. Bethesda also mentioned that the next three expansion packs for New Vegas will launch simultaneously on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC.

Dead Money will likely be $10 on PS3 and PC (as it was on Xbox 360), but we're currently following up with Bethesda for confirmation.

For us, plodding through the Mojave in search of things to kill and people to steal (or is that the other way around?) can sometimes take forever. Look, we're busy marauders, so we're glad to hear that a mod for Fallout: New Vegas, dubbed "Project Nevada," aims to change things up -- specifically, it'll add sprinting to the game and some handy vision modes, including thermal and night vision.

There's also the addition of bullet time and some new scopes to use. Currently, there's no time table for release, but in the meanwhile you can at least catch a trailer past the break.
