Among the modders eagerly tinkering away at Fallout: New Vegas, arguably "correcting" what they see as deficiencies in the original design, is ... lead designer J.E. Sawyer. Sawyer has developed an optional patch for the PC version, which reduces the level cap to 35, halves XP acquisition, cuts water and food drop rates, and tweaks a bunch of other variables, all detailed on Sawyer's Formspring. You can download the mod here.

So why is this a mod instead of an official patch? "In addition to technical reasons," Sawyer said, "some of the mechanics changes make the game significantly more difficult (base health / stim changes) or at least more of a hassle (carry weight, stims having weight, H2O/SLP/FOD rate increase). I'd rather have people opt-in to those changes than make them the default in a patch." This is also something Sawyer is doing in his spare time, as nobody is officially working on New Vegas anymore.

#fallout Originally, the graphic novel tied into Fallout: New Vegas was only available by buying the collector's edition of last year's post-nuke RPG. But Bethesda's announced that you can now download All Roads to iDevices. Written by Chris Avellone—creative director for New Vegas—with interior art by Jean Diaz (Boom's Incorruptible) and Wellinton Alves (Marvel's Shadowland: Blood on the Streets), All Roads served as a prequel to the events of FNV. So, if you loved the stories of the radioactive badlands you found in the game, all you FNV completists should probably get to downloading. More »

Next year, the Fallout: New Vegas Ultimate Edition will wander into stores across North America and Europe on February 7 and 10, respectively. The Ultimate Edition includes all the previously released DLC packs: Dead Money, Honest Hearts, Old World Blues, Lonesome Road, Courier's Stash and Gun Runners' Arsenal. The buy-in for the Mohave Wasteland bundle bonanza will be $49.99 for the Xbox 360 and PS3, and $39.99 for PC.

Fallout: New Vegas Ultimate Edition follows in the footsteps of the DLC-heavy Fallout 3. If you never got around to walking through the Capital Wasteland, the Fallout 3 Game of the Year Edition, which easily includes 100 hours of content, is going for $30 (or less) these days.

Digital Development Management is like Gus from Breaking Bad. DDM works behind the scenes, making connections and taking advantage of opportunities while the patsies -- video game developers and publishers -- make the money. DDM represents some major studios, and it revealed some interesting information about their future projects in a recent corporate slideshow.

Obsidian Entertainment, the studio behind Fallout: New Vegas and Dungeon Siege 3, is developing an "unannounced project for [a] leading animation franchise," according to DDM's presentation. It also says Need for Speed: Shift developer Slightly Mad Studios is working on an unannounced project, which could be its crowd-sourced venture, C.A.R.S. Triumph Studios, creator of the Overlord and Age of Wonders franchises, is also working on an unannounced title, DDM's presentation says.

It's not too surprising that game-development studios are creating games, but details such as Obsidian's "leading animation franchise" get us curious. So far, we're hoping for Fallout: Seth MacFarlane Armageddon.

Good, in fact excellent, tidings for those who find themselves able to enjoy Fallouts both old and new, and for anyone who lived through the 90s heyday of PC RPGs. New adventures for the Courier may have concluded with "Lonesome Road," but a wandering instrument of vengeance can always use more toys. New Vegas DLC packs "Courier's Stash" and "Gun Runners' Arsenal" are available today for Xbox 360 and PS3.

The Courier's Stash is a bundle of four pre-order bonuses that will set Mojave wanderers back $1.99 (160 MSP). The Gun Runners' Arsenal, available for $3.99 (320 MSP), adds new weapon mods, ammo types and recipes. Bugs that will erase your save files are, of course, still free.

I stopped paying attention to the Fallout: New Vegas DLCs a while back. Not out of disinterest mind, it’s just that I have a preorder for the Goatee Edition from Amazon, from when they accidentally listed it early, and it was only priced at £20. I’ll just dive back into the Mojave Wasteland once that gets shipped to me, and I’ll gorge myself all the DLC in one tasty feast. This fourth DLC release for New Vegas is titled Lonesome Road. When you come, you’ll walk it alone… (more…)

See? That's why you can't ignore a game after it's been released. Has there always been a lady toting a big gun painted like America in Fallout: New Vegas? Is she a new addition for the "Lonesome Road" DLC? Why have none of the Republican presidential hopefuls named her as their running mate yet?

The Courier's adventures in the Mojave Wasteland are coming to an end, with the last of Fallout: New Vegas' announced DLC expansions, "Lonesome Road," arriving on September 20. It was delayed beyond July and then, "due to circumstances beyond [Bethesda's] control," missed another scheduled pick-up in August.

Bethesda has also announced two smaller DLC packs for New Vegas, entitled "Courier's Stash" and "Gun Runners' Arsenal." The Courier's Stash includes the four content bundles previously available as pre-order bonuses, while The Gun Runners' Arsenal adds weapon mods, ammo types and recipes. Courier's Stash and Gun Runners' Arsenal will cost $1.99 (160 MSP) and $3.99 (320 MSP), respectively.

[Thanks, Nathan.]

Back in May, Fallout: New Vegas publisher Bethesda Softworks announced a trio of DLC packs for its post-apocalyptic wasteland wanderer: "Honest Hearts," which arrived in May; "Old World Blues," which arrived in July; and "Lonesome Road," which was also planned for a July launch.

"We just wanted to drop in here and let you know that due to circumstances beyond our control, Lonesome Road won't be out this month," senior producer Jason Bergman explained in a Bethesda.com forum post. "We don't have an exact date yet, but we're working to get it out as quickly as possible. We'll be announcing the final date, along with a couple of other interesting FNV-related items in the near future," he added without specifying a new launch window for the third DLC pack.

As a peace offering, Bethesda showed off the first image of Lonesome Road, seen above. If that's what taking the high road gets you, how bad must the other one be?

Updates to Fallout: New Vegas have been released. The updates will be applied automatically when your Steam client is restarted. The major changes include:

  • New feature: system save is automatically created prior to endgame sequence. After credits, user is prompted to load save game. This will allow single save players to play DLC without creating a new game.
  • Fixed issue where Minigun audio could get stuck/keep playing indefinitely when fired out of VATS.
  • Script fix to restore destroyed ED-E. This should address issues players have with attempting to use certain companions (e.g. Rex) or when the player needs to clear his or her companions before entering an area (e.g. Zion / Honest Hearts).
  • New Companion Dismissal Terminals added to Gun Runners and Lucky 38. These will allow players with lost companions from earlier patches to force-fire if they are experiencing problems attempting to get into DLC or areas that prevent companions from entering.
  • Arms no longer lifted above head when sneaking with certain weapons.
  • Fixed sound cutting out after extended playthroughs.
  • Massive world optimizations in major areas for better stability/performance with multiple DLCs installed.

  • Two vending machines in Hoover Dam were facing the wrong way.
  • Made it so Big Sal/Nero no longer accepts yield if the other is already dead.
  • Removed Brotherhood objectives when ED-E is given to the Followers.

  • Casino slot scripts altered so their max bets do not produce game economy-ruining levels of cap overflow

Bethesda is going to give Fallout: New Vegas fans a case of the blues next month. "Old World Blues," the third DLC pack for the game -- joining Dead Money and Honest Hearts -- arrives for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC on July 19. This new pack sees players trapped as subjects of a twisted science experiment. Also, as the screenshot above confirms, there will be robotic radscorpions. Yeah.

The days leading up to the DLC's release will see a title update issued for the game across all platforms that promises to improve stability in "major areas," along with performance increases. Bethesda says to expect a trailer for Old World Blues soon.
