Adding a new device to a game is nothing new. After all, every new title in the Resident Evil series seems to arm heroic characters with new weapons, gadgets and bizarre contraptions to fight various twisted creatures. However, Resident Evil Revelations does something clever with the addition of a scanning device called "Genesis." Though simple in application, the equipment strongly affects how the game can be played...

If you're anything like me, you play your portable systems between activities, when you have a spare few minutes to fit in some gaming. The more complex and involved games become, the tougher it is to justify playing them on the go. They seem better suited to home consoles, taking full advantage of the better graphics and sound potential those systems offer...

- most common enemy is the Ooze
- Ooze are a collection of pale, gelatinous monsters
- they have the ability to flow like liquid
- this allows them to emerge from grates, pipes and even laundry machines
- the cruise ship is called the Queen Zenobia
- the Ooze seem to be on the ship only
- new Ooze types will actually shoot projectiles at you
- some are far more physically powerful
- game has a balance of dishing out enough ammo to the player, as well as making sure you manage your supplies
- one point in the game you lose your ammo and guns, but still have to deal with Ooze
- you'll come across a fast-moving, twisted fish that simply attempts to bite your head off
- there's also a demonic water cockroach
- these enemies are tough to kill with traditional weapons
- Hunters make an appearance as well

As far as I can tell, there are no zombies in Resident Evil Revelations. Those of you demanding a more back-to-basics approach for this iteration of the series might be frustrated by that, but rest assured you have nothing to worry about. Revelations is packed with tons of freaky creatures that in many ways are better than their shambling, brain-eating counterparts. I love zombies as much as the next guy, but what Revelations features is pretty awesome...

Good news for those considering getting the 3DS Circle Pad Pro - it seems as though the peripheral's battery life is much, much better than the system itself. In fact, as reported by Andriasang, the expansion's battery life is a whopping 480 hours. Whoa. Not bad for a single AAA battery, which the device will come packed with...

Formally introduced in this trailer are: The FBC (Federal Bioterrorism Commission) and its leader, Morgan Lansdale; BSAA director Clive R. O'Brian; a mystery man named Raymond Vester, whose true allegiance is still unclear; and the city of Terragrigia, which was destroyed by a bioterrorist attack. We also get a bit more time with Jill, Chris, his new partner Jessica Sherawat (she's the one rocking the one-legged swimsuit) and beefy BSAA agent Parker Luciani, who is my personal favorite addition to the cast. You'll see why!

Terragrigia is a major plot point for Revelations, so this cleverly hidden video may help shed some additional light on the subject. Turns out bioterrorist organization Veltro (which also has a cameo in today's trailer) took it down in 2004 with a Hunter-filled assault, the first instance of a BOW-led attack on the public. Prior to Terragrigia, the creatures of the RE world were covered up or the result of an outbreak or accident - now, the world at large is a potential target.

As you can see, Revelations is jam-packed with content and is a major entry in the series. It hits 3DS on February 7 (Jan 27 in Europe), but don't worry - we'll have plenty more to talk about before then.

Remember when I said this morning that Capcom seemingly can't make an announcement regarding one of its games without stoking the flames of rage of the company's fanbase? Guess what? It happened again.

I'M IN UR 3DS, EATIN' ALL UR CARTRIDGE MEMORIEZZZ

Late last night, word began creeping through the Internet that Resident Evil: Revelations, the company's purported "console-sized" 3DS zombie (and probably some not-zombies, too) adventure scheduled for release early next year, would bear the tragic price tag of $50.Why, in the name of all that is holy, would a publisher dare put out a game at a price $10 more expensive than the standard for a platform that has already struggled selling units and software? Because of storage. Naturally.

"Resident Evil Revelations is an all new Resident Evil title with over 20 hours of gameplay, and cutscenes beautifully rendered in fear-inducing 3D," read a statement sent to Kotaku on the matter. "A true console experience on a handheld device, Resident Evil Revelations is an epic title that offers both a single-player campaign for that classic survival horror gaming experience, and an additional RAID mode that can be played cooperatively or single player. To handle all of that data Resident Evil Revelations requires a 4GB cartridge, resulting in a higher price point."

It's worth noting that this price point is entirely separate from the whole Circle Pad thing, which as of yet has not been announced for release outside of Japan (but we're betting it gets one eventually).

If this whole situation gives you sudden panic attacks, it's likely due to long-repressed memories of the early console gaming market, back when cartridge-based titles fluctuated in price wildly depending on required storage space. I can remember paying in upward of $90 for certain console titles, depending on demand/storage, and I've spent years in therapy trying to put those tragic times behind me. Now all of the sudden I can't stop sobbing and I'm frantically looking to see if I have any leftover Valium. Thanks for rendering two decades of therapy worthless, Capcom.

The other tragedy in all of this is that I just got done writing about Capcom's penchant for inciting rage with just about every major game announcement. Had I waited another day, I suppose I could have added this latest announcement to the smoldering pile of ashen hate, but then I guess that's what I get for trying to be timely.

Capcom has announced that Resident Evil Revelations will cost $50 when it's released next year. Most Nintendo 3DS games sell for a suggested retail price of $39.99, but Capcom will charge $10 extra because the game ships on a 4GB card instead of the system's usual 2GB...
