Indie studio Fire Hose Games' BBQ defense simulator Go Home Dinosaurs and formerly PSN-exclusive puzzle-fighter Slam Bolt Scrappers are stomping to Steam on March 14. The games will be $9.99 apiece ($8.99 if pre-ordered) or available as part of a Fire Hose Games Bundle for $14.99.

Go Home Dinosaurs is a tower-defense game where technologically equipped gophers protect their BBQ from rampaging dinosaurs.

Slam Bolt Scrappers is the PC port of the 2011 PSN-exclusive puzzle-brawler that unfortunately launched shortly before the PSN security breach that same year. The updated version supports up to four players and is big screen compatible.

#gohomedinosaurs In game designer Eitan Glinert's mind peanut butter must be tower defense and jelly must be Tetris, because for the second game in a row, the young creator has smushed the two great gaming styles together. He's just done it radically different this time, as if switching from making PB&J sandwiches to—I don't know—PB&J tacos. More »

The Fire Hose Games-developed PSN title Slam Bolt Scrappers combines the tower defense of Rampart with the puzzle mechanics of Tetris and adds a fist-throwing, jetpack-wearing scrapper on top of it all for good measure. The scrapper's meant to not just pulverize the enemy scrapper, but also groups of flying beasts which periodically descend and release new blocks for placement upon defeat. The scrappers' jetpacks allow them to float around the screen, beating up stuff and placing blocks while avoiding as much themselves ... OK, deep breath.

Sounds hectic, right?

It is! At least initially. In my experience, the frantic confusion meant "fun" more often than not, but it also wore off pretty quickly. At least in the game's single-player campaign, the handful of mechanics that are combined to form SBS' gameplay almost immediately turned into a grind: punch enemies for new blocks, grab/place block, beat up enemy character so he can't build, repeat.

Surprisingly, for a game with so much going on, Slam Bolt Scrappers wore out its welcome far too quickly.

Developer Fire Hose Games followed a fairly bizarre trajectory with the development of its debut project, Slam Bolt Scrappers. Check out the dev diary to see how the game was laboriously brought to life -- sadly, the video doesn't reveal the machine they used to squeeze about eight games into one.

You've never played a game quite like Slam Bolt Scrappers. Part Tetris, part furious action game, Slam Bolt Scrappers looked like a unique foray into downloadable bliss. After all, while I like the familiar, I also like what's different, and Slam Bolt Scrappers is decidedly in the latter camp. Unfortunately, for all of Slam Bolt Scrappers' promise, the end product is more muddled and confusing than new and interesting...

PSN exclusive Slam Bolt Scrappers is the highlight of this week's PSN update. The multi-genre mash-up from Fire Hose Games delivers multiplayer mayhem in a colorful package. There is also a demo available, so definitely take the game out for a test drive.

Speaking of test drives, Mortal Kombat's demo is now available to PSN plebs. Characters included in the demo are Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Mileena and Johnny Cage.

There's plenty more to peruse in the full update after the break.

Slam Bolt Scrappers is all set to drop, build and fire off next Tuesday, March 15, on PSN. The manic genre mash-up is celebrating with PAX East giveaways this weekend at the sold-out show (the Fire Hose Games team will be at booth 1133, which it's sharing with indie darling Spy Party).

If you're wearing a crazy hat that out-crazies one of Fire Hose's own crazy hats, you could even win a free copy of the $15 title. So that's the going rate for your shame, eh?

IT’S THE FINAL COUNTDOWN … to the March 15th release of Slam Bolt Scrappers on the PlayStation Network. To help steady your mind and ready your fingers for this slamtacular mash-up of brawling and building headed for your living rooms, allow me to humbly present: “The Official Slam Bolt Scrappers Trailer, Best Trailer of All Trailers.” Bask in its weaponized-block-filled glory!

Slam Bolt Scrappers is an epic game about blocks and baddies, friends and foes, building and destruction. The journey began long ago: We had discovered a powerful recipe by deciphering encrypted instructions found on ancient stone tablets. We followed this recipe for millennia, meticulously mixing strange ingredients from exotic locales. The result is a game with the perfect combination of multiplayer beat-em-up brawling and strategic puzzling. The result is Slam Bolt Scrappers. *cue epic music*

In SBS, players fly through the air above their team’s tower, punching cthuloid grubs to get colored blocks. Placing these blocks into squares of the same color turns them into powerful weapons that automatically attack their opponent’s tower. By punching baddies, building larger weapons, and saying mean things about their opponent’s face, one player will destroy their enemy’s tower and emerge victorious. 1-4 players can compete in the co-op campaign, fighting a variety of baddies and bosses, or duke it out in the multiplayer battle mode, unlocking new weapons and levels as they brawl.

We’ve put a variety of weapons in the game for your block breaking pleasure. Teal lightning blasters, purple laser guns, and automatic green drills are all at your disposal, but the ultimate weapon may be the dreaded black cannon.

5507531645_dcdc00c222.jpg

The black cannon is unique in Slam Bolt Scrappers. Unlike all other weapons, the black cannon must be manually loaded and fired for each shot. Instead of using their blocks to build more weapons, players fly into the green arrow on each empty cannon and press the circle button to load their block into the cannon. The cannon then finds a target and fires a flaming block, causing massive damage to whatever it hits along with splash damage effecting other nearby blocks.

5507531505_9d2e72b200_m.jpg 5507531473_f9b53c0059_m.jpg

Using the black cannon in fights always has devastating results. There is nothing like wiping out a huge weapon in your enemy’s tower with a single shot. Well, nothing except wrecking a boss with these same flaming projectiles.

5508130716_cb1dab1724.jpg

So, if you want to get some hands on experience with the black cannon, be sure to pick up the game on March 15th. If the trailer got your heart racing and you can’t wait to use the cannon, stop by booth 1133 at PAX East for a hands-on sneak peak. Slam Bolt Scrappers is building toward a March 15 release on PSN. The genre-mashing title from indie Fire Hose Games has been a tough game to explain, but the developer recently made a video attempt to sort out the madness.

If you're heading to PAX East next week, the Boston-based studio will have the game available to demo at the show.

GOOD NEWS EVERYONE: Slam Bolt Scrappers is coming to the PlayStation Network on March 15th! That’s right, in mere days you will be able to experience the greatest experience of all experiences.

After centuries of laboring over our sweet, scrappilicious, love child of brawling and building, we are proud to present the perfect genre mash-up: Slam Bolt Scrappers. Behold its glory and embrace its chaos, but most of all, be ready for some serious multiplayer trash talking. On March 15th.

5490704574_9e9623dcc0.jpg

What is Slam Bolt Scrappers, you say? Thanks to what could only be psychic powers, you already know that it’s a game that combines a beat-em-up feel with building and tower defense. Players control flying heroes that beat up baddies to get colored building blocks. Stacking these blocks into squares of the same color builds weapons. Most battles give players a specific tower that they need to build on – the weapons built on this tower will automatically attack a tower controlled by their opponent. The goal is simple: use your weapons to destroy your opponent’s tower to win. Players can play with up to 4 towers, and the game is 4 player, so there are plenty of different battles to be had: multiple players can work together to build one tower, battling it out against friends or computer opponents, a single player can control multiple towers, or each player can man their own tower in free for all mode. And it’s really sweet!

5490704708_9efab66054.jpg

I said most battles give you a single tower to build on, but with our Skyscraper level, we took that literally. Players get a giant skyscraper with different stories that they can build in – sort of like a vertical sidescroller. Starting at the bottom of the skyscraper, players stack blocks into weapons in each level with the goal of destroying an onslaught of baddies and working their way up to the next level.

5490704806_96229769d8.jpg

Once all the stories have been completed, the boss soars down from the sky, flying to different areas of the Skyscraper and bringing the player along with him. The player then needs to rely on weapons that they’ve placed throughout the tower to help destroy the boss. And, we’ve given players a special new weapon to get the job done – THE LIGHTNING BLASTER. Observe:

5490704946_7c23978e6d.jpg

The lightning blaster is an awesome weapon that not only attacks flying baddies and bosses, but also attacks opponents’ weapons, doing serious damage and sometimes stunning them, preventing them from firing. Once players master this weapon, they not only become a serious force in SBS, but also a better looking person.

5490127659_e67910d1c1.jpg

That’s all for now PS fans! Stay tuned for more updates as we get closer to release – we’ll be showing off more sweet weapons and crazy levels. If you make it to PAX, stop by booth 1133 to check out the game. Be sure to follow us on twitter (@FireHoseGames) and swing by our Facebook fan page (facebook.com/FireHoseGames) for more behind the scenes goodness. And don’t forget to get the game when it comes out on March 15th! (EUROPEAN FRIENDS, DISPAIR! You’ll have to wait until March 16th!)

Like the sunrise, the expansion of a PopCap game to another platform is inevitable. Plants vs. Zombies will be available on the PlayStation Network in February thanks to the company's continuing collaboration with Sony Online Entertainment. Like SOE's previous efforts, this appears to be a direct port of the original game.

If you're looking for something more "exclusive," SOE has announced an extensive suite of original PSN games as well:
  • Acceleration of Suguri X Edition from Rockin' Android is an anime robot beat 'em up.
  • Slam Bolt Scrappers from Fire Hose Games has you constructing buildings, and brawling bosses to protect them.
  • Akimi Village from NinjaBee has you gathering resources to construct a village.
  • Sideway from Playbrains and Fuel Industries is an adventure set in the "gritty art culture" of NYC.
  • Rochard from Recoil Games is a side-scrolling puzzler set in space.
Slam Bolt Scrappers is arriving this March, while Sideway is cleared with a vague "Spring" release window. Unfortunately, not much else has been released about the other titles, but expect more in the future.

Ah, March. Home to Mardi Gras, the Equinox, and Pi Day. Now you can add one more celebration-worthy event to that list: It’s when Slam Bolt Scrappers, the new indie game, will be hitting the PlayStation Network!

If you are wondering “What is this awesome and likely epic game I’ve never heard of?” then boy do we have some good news for you! A unique blend of brawling and building mayhem, Slam Bolt Scrappers is a one-to-four player party game where you fight and simultaneously build crazy weapon-growing towers.

5385621255_0e24b821f4.jpg

The game features a co-op campaign where up to four players can work together against super-smart enemy AIs, and giant bosses with anger management issues. We’re also bringing back couch play with a four-way battle mode where those same friends can duke it out for hours and hours while shouting at each other and the TV. The game even has a beverage mode where you can play with one hand while using the other to multitask and enjoy a tasty drink. Sweet!

We’ve been hammering away these past few months and we’re happy to say that oh man this game is getting wicked fun. We’re putting the finishing touches on it now so that it’ll be extra shiny for the March release. In the mean time enjoy these new screens! And be sure to check out the Slam Bolt Scrappers website for more updates as we get closer and closer to the drop date. We’ll be putting up more images, concept art, and videos, as well as descriptions of our new characters, levels, and weapons. This is one PlayStation Network game you don’t want to miss!

Fire Hose Games is looking for some assistance in naming two of its scrapping Slam Bolt Scrappers -- without the requirement of a charity donation this time. Also, it's not carte blanche naming like it was for helping Child's Play. The developer has a poll up on its site with naming options available for its "angel" and "masked menace" characters.

The PSN exclusive is reportedly close to being finished. Our experiences with the multi-genre mash-up have been fun -- once we figured out what was going on.

Without the help of special potions, unguents or spells, immortality is a pretty tricky thing to obtain. Fire Hose Games is offering a pretty rare opportunity to have your genius brain live forever: The studio is auctioning off the chance to name one of the characters in its upcoming downloadable tower defense/action title Slam Bolt Scrappers, one-hundred percent of the proceeds from which will go to Child's Play. A second character's naming rights will be sold off during the Child's Play Charity Dinner in Seattle on December 7 -- tickets for which are still available!

There are some limitations, of course. You can't name the characters anything inappropriate, copyright-infringing or too long, so, sorry, Boner MacBurgerKing, but you'll never be a real person. Not ever.

Slam Bolt Scrappers is a genuine, bona-fide genre-twisting mash-up of brawling and building where one to four players clash in an all-out brawl while simultaneously creating weapon packed towers that fight alongside them. Gameplay centers on assembling colored blocks into powerful weaponized turrets while defending against enemy attacks and mobbing creeps. The game presents a deep battle mode with tons of replayability and a fast and frantic co-op campaign filled with deviously charming baddies, epic bosses, and fun, cartoony levels.

Duke it out and crush your enemies in the competitive battle mode by building massive towers of weapons…Or work together as a team to protect Slam Bolt City against hordes of invading baddies!

At first glance, Slambolt Scrappers appears to be a puzzle game, but that’s only partially correct. It’s also part brawler, part strategy, and really, really frenetic in multiplayer. And despite the familiar appearance of the pieces you’re, um, scrapping over – this ain’t no Tetris. Recently we met with Eitan Glinert of Fire Hose Games, so he could better explain how this upcoming PSN exclusive plays.

Hopefully you now have a better idea of why this genre-mashing game is racking up the accolades. Look for it in early 2011.

It's difficult to convey the sheer terror and chaos I experienced in the first few minutes of the Slam Bolt Scrappers PAX demo. Though the Firehose Games reps told me how to play, it wasn't preparation enough for the actual game, a combination puzzler/brawler/strategy title that is one of the most unique blends of genres I've ever played. The learning curve was, um, kinda steep!

Fire Hose Games' Slam Bolt Scrappers impressed us at E3 even though it was a ways off from its expected "early 2011" launch on PSN. PAX, taking place this weekend in Seattle, will be the public-at-large's next chance to see what we were talking about. The game will be playable at booth #3834, and the developers will be on hand for feedback.

Slam Bolt Scrappers is an intuitive and hectic combination of Rampart and Tetris. If you're at PAX, definitely check it out. The latest trailer for the game can be found after the break.
