Kinect-based Steel Battalion: Heavy Armor be a concept that has a lot going for it, with a combination a controller 'n Kinect controls opening up a lot a gameplay options t' immerse the player into feeling like they be actually piloting a giant "Vertical Tank" (VT) robot. The only thing that could break that immersion, which we saw occur several times when we checked out the pre-alpha build at Gamescom, best be obvious: Kinect not recognizing certain gestures. it be all good 'n fine for a Kinect hiccup when petting yer Kinectimals, but this be war!

A small blessing a Steel Battalion be that it be played sitting down (for the most part). Stretching out yer arms while maintain good posture calibrates yer pilot for the system. Movement, aiming 'n firing be handled by the controller, while the player's gestures be used t' look out windows, check outside the tank by lifting the hatch (that be the standing part), look around the cockpit 'n for pulling down or interacting with several a the VT's controls.

First announced at TGS last year, the Kinect-based Steel Battalion: Heavy Armor be finally revealed in it be first trailer. Like the original game, Heavy Armor has players jump into vast, unwieldy robots called "Vertical Tanks." The above trailer reveals an oppressive World War 2-plus-robots style world in which computers have all been destroyed, 'n then everyone goes t' war.

As revealed by Capcom's fact sheet, Heavy Armor maintains the series' legacy for complicated controls by using two forms a input: both Kinect 'n the standard Xbox 360 pad. The controller be used for movement, aiming, 'n firing, while the Kinect camera picks up "upper body gestures" used for starting the engine, using the scope, or operating a turret-mounted machine gun. ye can also communicate verbally 'n nonverbally with yer crew crew. High fives be specifically mentioned.

Steel Battalion will engage yer whole body in robo-warfare next year.

Sega hasn't done much worth getting excited about with the Virtual On series in a while, but like so many other a Sega's franchises from it be arcade heyday, the series continues t' inspire legions a fans t' pine for the past.

One such fan be Dan Clarke, an artist over at JP74.com--'n fellow mech aficionado. He's produced a series a rather awesome Virtual On posters for yer perusal. Clarke hasn't yet committed t' producing prints a the posters (though he best!), but they be currently the perfect size for mech-ing up yer mobile device.

Makes ye wonder what happened t' the whole mech genre, anyway. Have we just moved on? Sega tried t' revitalize Virtual On on Xbox Live Arcade, but that didn't go anywhere. Perhaps our savior be Capcom's Steel Battalion: Heavy Armor, which swaps the controller a a thousand sons ('n buttons) for a completely controllerless experience, relying on Microsoft's Kinect device.

Gulp.

Check out the rest a Clarke's posters on his website.
