Zen Studios is currently having issues with the recently released Star Wars Pinball on Windows 8 machines. Following up with the developer after receiving several tips this morning about a "Not_Yet_Localized" error on the Microsoft operating system, the company tells us it's working with MS to resolve the issue.

"Zen Studios rarely has release issues, and we really feel terrible whenever players spend their time and energy having to report issues instead of playing games," a company spokesperson told Joystiq. "Fixes are coming soon! Apologies to the players trying to play Star Wars Pinball on Windows 8!"

The issue appears to be platform specific and we haven't heard about the problem on consoles or other operating systems.

Zen Studios will add four classic tables to Pinball FX2 this Wednesday. The "Zen Classics" bundle includes four "digitally re-mastered" tables, altered from their already digital state, with upgraded graphics and physics for Pinball FX2.

The four tables in the pack are Tesla (pretty great!), Shaman, Eldorado and V12. The tables come as a bundle for 800 Microsoft Points ($10).

Zen Studios' downloadable Civil War table for Marvel Pinball is available today on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, with the Mac and Google Play versions available tomorrow. The table is priced at $3 on consoles and Mac, and $2 on Google Play and iOS (whenever it arrives).

Zen Studios has been taking special events in the Marvel universe and turning them into pinball experiences, this time using the Civil War storyline for the table's design. The multi-part comic series revolved around the Superhuman Registration Act, in which superheroes had some mild disagreement over whether to register with the government and reveal their identities.

Windows and free pinball games go together like computer labs and bored high-school students, and Microsoft's shiny new Windows 8 platform will be no exception to that rule, as Zen Studios has launched Pinball FX 2 on the new OS' Microsoft Store app repository.

The free download includes one table ("Mars," specifically), with 18 other tables available for $2.99 each, including Marvel-branded jams such as "Thor," "The Infinity Gauntlet" and "Marvel's The Avengers." Zen plans to support the Windows 8 version with new DLC just as it has the XBLA version, though no amount of DLC will complete that essay on Uncle Tom's Cabin that you're supposed to be working on.

#marvelpinball Zen Pinball's productive relationship with Marvel Entertainment has delivered 14 virtual tables to Pinball FX2 on the Xbox 360 and Marvel Pinball on the PS3, as well as on mobile devices. There's going to be a 15th table coming up soon: "Civil War," taken from the 2006 crossover continuity pitting Captain America versus Iron Man. More »

So it went down like this: Someone tweeted Archer production designer and art director Neil Holman the idea for an Archer table in Zen Studios' Pinball FX 2, Holman said he could send the idea up to FX if Zen was down, and Zen said, "Yuuuuup" (paraphrased). Holman since requested Zen's contact info and said he'll "put the wheels in motion."

It looks to us like Twitter already got those gears turning, in a wonderfully public way. This is what happens when cool people work together: transparency and dead hookers. Uh, we mean, cartoon spy-drama pinball tables. Of course.

Windows 8 isn't even really available yet, but you can already play Pinball FX2 on it. That's what we would call being "on the ball" ... if we were interested in terrible puns, which of course we aren't.

Windows 8 is available today in a consumer preview build, and Zen Studios' pinball game is included in the download, with the "Sorcerer's Lair" table. Of course, more tables will be sold as DLC. It's only fitting that this version of Windows, which touts some kind of Xbox Live functionality, will include one of Xbox Live's most popular games. To put it another way: free pinball!

The Pinball games from Zen Studios -- Pinball FX 2 on XBLA and Marvel Pinball on PSN -- will receive a Hulk table sometime next year. XBLAfans took note of the forum post where Mel Kirk, VP of PR and Marketing for Zen Studios, explicitly announced the angry green goon's forthcoming appearance.

"Everything that comes from Marvel next year will be bigger, not necessarily character specific," Kirk told us when we asked about the table. "Hulk will be the main character, but it will be based on something in the Marvel storyline."

It would appear Zen Studios' relationship with Marvel is going well. The company launched the original Marvel tables last year, followed by DLC featuring Fantastic Four and Captain America (one of the best tables available), and the "Vengeance and Virtue" tables which came out last week. From what Zen Studios is saying, there's plenty more to come in 2012.

The final character to be honored in the upcoming Marvel Pinball "Vengeance and Virtue" DLC has been revealed to be none other than Thor Odinson himself. The God of Thunder will join the likes of Moon Night and Ghost Rider when the DLC debuts next week on PSN (via Marvel Pinball) and XBLA (via Pinball FX 2). The DLC will land on PSN and XBLA on December 13 and 14, respectively, for $10.

The brand new "Paranormal" table for Pinball FX2 is available now for free until November 2. Just download the table off the marketplace and you'll be all set for a flippering Kolchak: The Night Stalker-inspired pinball table. As always, the Pinball FX2 platform is also free, so this is a win/win proposition.

After next Wednesday, the table will likely be 240 MSP ($3), but why pay tomorrow for what you can get for free today?

XBLA's Pinball FX2 will offer its new table, "Paranormal," for free between October 26 and November 2. The catch? You have to download Pinball FX2, which is also free... wait, that's not a "catch."

"Yes, you get to keep it FOREVER. Just download it between October 26 and November 2," Zen Studios' PR guru Mel Kirk told us. "In celebration of one year of Pinball FX2, and as a big thank you to all of our supporters, we are happy to offer the new Paranormal table free for one week!"

After the gratis period, the table will likely be 240 MSP ($3), just like the others. The developer has been on a roll lately with some pretty fun tables, so if you've never tried Pinball FX2, free is a pretty good price point to find out if you're a flipper phenom.

The ever-growing stable of tables in Pinball FX2 will see a magical new addition come October 12, when Zen Studios will release "Sorcerer's Lair." The table gives off a bit of a Harry Potter vibe, with two lovable scamps seemingly exploring a spooky castle. Specifically, players will "avoid pesky traps, defeat an army of undead skeletons, explore six cellar missions and restore peace to those who reside within the walls of the ancient Citadel as you fight to escape the grasps of the evil Sorcerer."

Presumably, most of these tasks will be accomplished by ramming things with a metal ball, and there's nothing wrong with that.

Zen Studios is hosting a high-score Spider-Man tournament for XBLA's Pinball FX 2, running from today to August 12. The winners will receive goodies such as MS Points and sweet Marvel gear, all for playing some pinball. The prizes break down as follows:
  • 1st Place: 4,000 MS Points, a Marvel Digital Comics annual subscription, a Spider-Man Bass Skyline tee shirt from Mighty Fine
  • 2nd and 3rd Place: 1600 MS Points, a Marvel Digital Comics annual subscrption, a Spider-Man Bass Skyline tee shirt from Mighty Fine
Zen Studios promises prizes for random players as well, so feel free to play some rounds without any pressure. The Spider-Man table is in the Marvel Pinball pack, which runs 800 MS Points on XBLA, and it is required to play in the tournament. Otherwise it'd just have a name like "Pinball Championships," which are already happening this August, and wouldn't that be awkward at the Kinko's badge station.

Zen Studios' Pinball FX2 and Twisted Pixel's Ms. Splosion Man have revealed a cross-splode-form promotion. Ms. 'Splosion Man will have her own table in the pinball sim, while an arcade room in Ms. 'Splosion Man, will have a "virtual Pinball FX 2 table where you can dive right into the hot XBLA pinball action directly."

Ms. 'Splosion Man hits Xbox Live Arcade on July 13 for 800 MSP ($10). There is currently no release date or price announcement for Ms. 'Splosion Man's Pinball FX 2 table, but it should arrive shortly after the XBLA game's debut and cost a few dollars.

Zen Studios will add a Fantastic Four table to PSN's Marvel Pinball and XBLA's Pinball FX 2 on May 17 and 18, respectively. Why Fantastic Four? To celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Fantastic Four #1, of course. No price was announced for the ball-out superhero surface, but it should be $3 (240 MSP) or under. We've contacted Zen Studios for confirmation.

The table features 3D models of Mister Fantastic, The Invisible Woman, Thing and Human Torch, along with the type of intricate details fans of the series have come to expect. Check out the video after the break for some flippin' action.

The two final contenders in the Doritos-sponsored "Unlock Xbox" game design contest have been fully realized and released as Xbox Live Arcade games today, for free. Until December 26, you can cast your vote for either Doritos Cash Course (download) or Harms Way (download) through the Xbox Unlock ad on the Dashboard, with the winner to be announced on December 29 and offered a 50G (that's dollars, not Achievement points) part-time, game consulting gig with Doritos.

Perhaps overshadowed by the flavorful showdown, the previously announced Bomberman Live sequel, Battlefest (download), is also available on the Arcade today for 800 Microsoft Points ($10). Additionally, the third Lara Croft: GoL challenge pack add-on, "A Hazardous Reunion" (download), has been released for 400 points ($5), along with the "Marvel Pinball" table (download) for Pinball FX 2, priced at 800 points.
