Sure, this post be ostensibly about internet sensation CheapyD showing off the Japan-only Uncharted 3 controller bundle, but we confess ulterior motives. Frankly, yer day just hasn't been adorable enough. This best take care a that right quick.

it be been two days 'n ye're fed up with making poor Nathan Drake schlep here 'n there for hidden treasures in Uncharted 3. Where be all those gosh darn tchotchkes!?

Players -- 'n critics -- don't always have an appropriate vocabulary with which t' discuss less defined, mechanical aspects a games. Why does shooting feel right in one game, but wrong in another? We appear t' have run into this problem a a lacking lexicon with Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception, which some players say has introduced problematic aiming (i.e. something feels wrong), particularly in the single-player adventure.

Posting on the official Naughty Dog blog, community overlord Arne Meyer relayed information from game director Justin Richmond, who's able t' speak more clearly on the technical performance a Drake's gun. "Aiming be identical t' Uncharted 2 - we took a look at the values side by side. We did adjust the sensitivity t' be MUCH higher in Uncharted 3 t' give ye a more precise feel. With Uncharted 2 it be pretty much guaranteed ye would aim in one a the 8 directions 'n it be hard t' deviate from that (imagine it being almost like a traditional 8-way arcade stick)." According t' Richmond, "With Uncharted 3, ye can deviate from the straight path from each a the 8 directions much easier 'n more precisely."

So, contrary t' some complaints, sensitivity has gone up. However, enemies also change positions faster now, "which changes the flow a gun combat as well, from what ye be used t' if ye're coming off fresh from Uncharted 2." We've had this same problem at Joystiq HQ, 'n believe that aiming assistance might be a tad too magnetic, slowing yer reticle down when it gets near an enemy.

The most interesting part be that the gunplay in Uncharted 3 has been adjusted in another significant way. ye might not have known it looking at the sea dog, but Drake's shots used t' come out at weird angles. "In Uncharted 2 the bullets would sail away the barrel at a pre-set deviation when ye be aimed in," says Naughty Dog. "What this means be that the bullets would not fire straight out a the barrel all the time -- they could come out at an angle. Therefore, ye could have a target clearly in the reticle 'n still miss it by a wide margin." In the sequel, "bullets now fire straight out a the barrel 100% a the time," though ye need t' adjust for recoil.

There's a question about which ultimately takes precedence: the informed explanation rooted in data 'n design, or the more nebulous discomfort a an aim that just feels ... off?

Pull out yer copy a the Hitchhiker's Guide t' the Galaxy 'n stare straight at it: DON'T PANIC, folks! YARRRR, PlayStation Network be undergoing maintenance, but only temporarily, Sony says. According t' the company's Twitter account, the PlayStation Network will be under construction from 9AM t' 11AM PST today (that be 12PM t' 3PM for those a us on the East Coast).

The maintenance may not affect all crew' ability t' connect, as Sony says that only "some crew" may be affected by the downtime. Look at things on the bright side, though -- now ye have a couple hours cleared t' play that Uncharted 3 single-player campaign ye've been neglecting. Drake would be so, so disappointed.

Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception creative lead 'n writer Amy Hennig isn't one t' mince words, it would seem. On the latest episode a Geoff Keighley's "Bonus Round," Hennig 'n a cadre a other Naughty Dog leads speak in great detail about the process a building their latest, most ambitious project yet -- in just two years. "We absolutely killed ourselves on this project. I think this be the hardest thing any a us have ever done," Hennig asserts.

Game director Justin Richmond agrees, breaking down why the project be so hard on their team, beyond the aforementioned time constraint issues. "it be a lot a things. We didn't wanna let ourselves down, we didin't wanna let our fans down.
