The Nintendo 3DS launched in Australia on Thursday, March 31, finding 31,000 eager owners over the following four days and establishing a launch week sales record for handhelds in the region. (The Wii currently wears the console crown for single week sales in the country, with a record of 32,000 units sold during its debut.)
Australia's launch numbers, of course, pale in comparison to the impact made by the 3DS in North America. According to the most recent NPD figures, the 3DS sold over 370,000 units in its first seven days of availability. That's about 1.1 million Ds!

Nintendo said that the 3DS version of Blazblue: Continuum Shift 2 would be out in North America on May 24, but publisher Aksys offered a different timetable today, when it officially announced the PSP and 3DS releases of Arc System Works' fighter.
The bad news is that CS2 will actually arrive a week later, on May 31. The good news is that it won't have to needlessly compete with Dead or Alive Dimensions by being released on the same day! We have galleries of each version, so the PSP and 3DS releases can battle one-on-one for your fighting game budget. There's also a trailer after the break.

Marvelous's new 3DS game, Senran Kagura, is a side-scrolling action platformer starring a group of five ninja school students battling evil mercenary ninjas. You can juggle enemies in aerial combos, double-jump and dash around the screen. Sounds awesome, right?
Oh, by the way, all the characters are young women, "ranked" by bust size. During the game, their clothes tear off, and occasionally the screen will zoom in and display their decreasingly covered bodies in 3D.

Sure, the augmented reality cards included with the 3DS are super neat, but how about making a giant one and posing it next to an oversize Tetsujin 28-go statue? Ohhh ... right. Or maybe drawing one on a whiteboard? But you've already done that too? Okay, okay, we've got it -- you could wear one like a shirt! Wait, what?! Dammit!
Well, anyway, assuming you weren't one of the first 3,000 European 3DS registrants to receive Nintendo's bonus AR t-shirt, Level Up Studios has you covered! The company's $18 black t-shirt comes adorned with the same question mark block seen on the official Nintendo equivalent, only a bit larger (and nicer looking, we'd say).
Head past the break for a video of the shirt in terrifying live action.

According to a new GameStop listing, Mama is going to start making recipes with more depth of flavor. Or at least more illusion of depth. The retailer has listed Cooking Mama 4 for 3DS, with a release date in October.
It's perfectly plausible for there to be a new Cooking Mama game coming out in the fall, of course, as that's the cornerstone of Majesco's business. The publisher has recently begun moving toward more 3DS games, with announcements of The Hidden, Face Kart: Photo Finish, and Pet Zombies in 3D.
Meanwhile, if you want Cooking Mama on your 3DS ahead of time, you can scan the Cooking Mama Mii prepared by Majesco.

The 3DS launched in Japan a little over a month ago, but already, the handheld seems to be losing a bit of steam. The deep-screened device slipped to second place in the weekly Media Create rankings, falling behind the PSP by a margin of about 15,000 units. What's more, according to a report from Japanese news site Inside Games, only around 836,000 3DS units have been sold in Japan so far -- a little over half of the initial Japanese shipment.
The earthquake and tsunami that devastated Japan on March 11 are likely a huge contributing factor to the device's slow start, and could be tied to the lack of a strong post-launch software lineup, which is certainly hurting sales. Only one 3DS title, Namco's Pro Baseball Famista 2011, made it into the Top 10 in software sales for the week of March 28, compared to six PSP games.
