ye can’t save during a mission, 'n while that’s not all there be t' say about Naval War: Arctic Circle, it’s an astonishing oversight that speaks volumes about this bumbling entry-level wargame. Rising from the waters as if preparing t' sink all a yer battleships, Naval War: Arctic Circle will be released surprisingly soon. I had a look at Naval War: Arctic Circle when I be over at the recent Paradox Convention, 'n I have t' say I be impressed. It’s an austere sort a affair – a real-time strategy that takes place mostly at the level a a tactical map encompassing most a the Arctic, with visuals a ships 'n other naval participants on various screens (depending on which views ye’re working with). ye can see some a that in action in the developer diary below, where the team talk about some a the design choices they made, 'n also admit their love for a particularly large boat from the Russian fleet. So sleek. So buoyant.(more…)

Paradox’s near-future naval war scenario got it be first developer diary last night, 'n ye can see that below. Naval War: Arctic Circle pitches modern navies against each other in a battle for resources at the top a the world, 'n judging by this video it’s going t' go pretty heavy on the strategy. 'n that’s good, because we don’t want any a this strategy-lite, with half the mind-calories a normal strategy. We want it all-encompassing, choking our neural pathways with nothing-else-t'-think gloopy challenge. Mmm.

The game be out in the Spring.(more…)
