The Call of Juarez franchise always interested me in the past because of its western themes. The previous titles told interesting enough stories, and had engaging enough characters, that they were appealing despite their lack of polish. Call of Juarez: The Cartel, however, doesn't even succeed in this regard. The characters are unlikeable and under developed, and the story is completely forgettable. Beyond that, The Cartel feels rushed, unpolished, and repetitive to the point of frustration...

Call of Juarez: The Cartel moves the series into a modern setting and fills it with a cast of foul-mouthed gangsters and drug dealers. There are still guns though, and sometimes people say ‘outlaw’. I was sceptical about the move but willing to give it a shot. Then Ubisoft delayed the PC release. Maybe they were doing us a favour? After playing the game from its bloody beginning to its bloody end, I am fully equipped to tell you Wot I Think.

Get ready to fall off your chair, and probably through the floor itself, with shock. From Dust, the new game from Eric “Another World” Chahi, was due out from Ubisoft on Wednesday this week. But would you just flipping believe it – Green Man Gaming are reporting that at the very last moment it seems the PC version only has being delayed!

Climb back up, calm yourself down. I know. It’s too much. Of all people, who would have thought Ubi could be the ones to suddenly delay the PC version of a game at the eleventh hour, like they did with Call Of Juarez: The Cartel last week. And others of their games in the last couple of years.

You know what would be a surprise? If Ubisoft, right, had a release date for a new game on all formats, yeah? But then – okay – at the eleventh hour announced that the PC version was going to be delayed! Imagine it! Because yes, yet again, Ubi have pulled the same tiresome trick with Call Of Juarez: The Cartel. Now the game – which was to be just about the only major release in July on PC – has slipped to the 16th September. We’ve contacted Ubisoft to find out why this keeps happening to their PC games, and will let you know their response. The consoles still get the game this Friday. In its absence, you can watch the first twenty minutes of the game, via CVG, below.

I've seen games a year out that are in significantly better shape than Call of Juarez: The Cartel. Slated to release July 19th, the third entry in the franchise looks like it could use many more months of polish. Although, having played its multiplayer, I don't think any amount of polish would make ...

The latest trailer for cowboys-in-the-now game Call Of Juarez: The Cartel (below, natch) shows its co-op game. What’s interesting about it is this word: “Co-opetition.” What the word means is that each of the players in the co-op game is going to have his or her own agenda, and executing it might get you in big trouble, (or even executed, judging by the end of the trailer). While you have to fight the NPC carterl goons together, there’s going to be side-missions all the way for deciding which if you is actually the best at sneaky manshoots. I’m keen to see this in action – I wonder whether it will stand up to repeated play. For now though, check out the trailer.

The game is out on July 19th.(more…)

Things are rough along the Mexican border. How does a government clean up such a cesspool of crime and lawlessness? Well, if it's a video game, you hire foul-mouthed men and women to kick down doors and shoot dudes like crazy. Results are results, we guess.

A true Western doesn't always have to be in the past! Check out Call of Juarez' leap into the modern times with Techland Brand Manager Blazej Krawkowiak!

http://www.joystiq.com/2011/03/13/call-of-juarez-the-cartel-preview-this-means-juar/ I, like many long-time fans I'd imagine, despaired a little bit when I read that Techland was taking their Western franchise in a more modern direction with Call of Juarez: The Cartel. It's a fear the developer is used to addressing.

"When we worked on the other Call of Juarez games, we always believed that there were themes of the Western that are still relevant today," said pitchman Blazej Krakowiak. "This is our chance to prove it."

To hear Krakowiak tell it, the studio isn't trying to drag the modern era into its Western, it's trying to bring the west into the modern era.

Ubisoft's Call of Juarez: The Cartel is all about threes. Not only is it the third game in the series, it features three main characters: a "gang-affiliated street kid," a "DEA agent with a chronic gambling habit" and a "brutal LAPD detective." Each character is said to have a unique campaign story and ending.

Perhaps the most exciting feature of The Cartel is the ability to play as all three characters in online co-op; in which Ubisoft teases there will be a "twist" in the storyline. Get your first look at the unlikely "task force" in the trailer after the break.
