Primal Carnage's free Get to the Chopper DLC is live now on Steam, bringing the Downpour map and a new dinosaur, the Spinosaurus. From its name alone, we would recommend putting on gloves before trying to pet this one. Thick gloves.

The new map, Downpour, is a rain-logged jungle scene where players must radio a helicopter, turn on a fuel valve and then get to the chopper at the landing pad. The Spinosaurus shows up during that final sprint to the helicopter, and has a one-hit kill bite and dangerous claw attacks. The DLC includes a modified version of the Docks map, as well, and developer Lukewarm Media promises more maps in the future.

The Spinosaurus will be available later this month as a paid skin for Team Deathmatch. Get to the Chopper was initially scheduled to launch in November, but hey, it's not like these guys already had a helicopter.

I opened my nasally Pteranodon vocal passages and shrieked for more interesting stuff to do in Primal Carnage, and – as if by magic/coincidental timing/but I really hope it’s magic – Lukewarm Media answered. The first batch of DLC’s been officially dubbed “Get to the Chopper,” and it’s about, well, getting to a chopper. And also away from dinosaurs. Both of these goals seem fairly conducive to that oh-so-admirable goal of not being used as a chew toy by a slobbering T-Rex, so hooray. Better still – that is, if you value good deals over your own mortality – it’s free!

Primal Carnage, the human v. dinosaur class-based shooter, will roar in with new content in late November. The game will add a new objective-based mode called "Get to the Chopper" and a new map. Publisher Reverb notes this is the "first of many planned game updates." There is also an alternative character skin pack planned for later this month, but that'll cost an unannounced arm and/or leg... maybe just a pinky.

"Our goal with Primal Carnage was to make the best dinosaur video game to date, and according to the reviews, we've done just that - but we are far from done," said lead designer Ashton Anderson of Lukewarm Media.

We noted in our review for Primal Carnage the game "could become a better beast with updates, but at launch it's missing some key elements and polish."

Dinosaurs vs humans with high-powered modern weaponry. It’s a tale as old as time – or at least Jurassic Park. Games, though, have struggled desperately to strike a proper balance between man and his planet-populating predecessor, but to little avail. So then, can Lukewarm’s Primal Carnage finally break the lukewarm streak kicked off by the likes of Dino D-Day and Orion: Dino Beatdown? Here’s wot I think.

"Oh, great. Another multiplayer game where humans and dinosaurs duke it out for battlefield supremacy." If the game industry had evolved differently, maybe made that left turn at Turok, that's what we might have uttered when Primal Carnage was first revealed. With a few exceptions, however, the mash-up of dinosaur and man at war has mostly eluded the video game industry.

Having the foresight to predict what should be the "next big thing," developer Lukewarm Media has delivered its first game, Primal Carnage, under Reverb Publishing. Though there are a few meteor-sized holes in the game's feature list and polished sheen, Primal Carnage makes a good first impression, with some deep thought put into its strange (and awesome) gimmick.

Are dinosaurs the new zombies? Could they end up becoming our next guiltless gun target du jour? Between Dino D-Day, Orion: Dino Beatdown, and now Primal Carnage, pre-history’s least lovable lizards have recently found themselves in our crosshairs more than, well, ever – largely because crosshairs didn’t exist back when they weren’t asteroid dust. Problem is, no one’s really figured out how exactly to make this brand of incredibly asymmetrical combat shine just yet. So then, can Primal Carnage soar where others have flapped helplessly with their tiny T-Rex arms and fallen off a cliff? Let’s find out. Let’s find out together.

Those who pre-ordered the game, which runs $15, should currently have access to test out the beta of this class-based shooter. A pre-order on Steam, GameStop, GamersGate and Rain also nets a feathered raptor skin.

The game runs on Unreal Engine and pits humans against dinosaurs, with five classes apiece to choose from. Primal Carnage is also scheduled to have extensive downloadable content.

Dinosaurs versus heavily armed people. It’s a tale as old as time, with a clear artistic through line that begins in the cave paintings of Mann-Shüt, which depicted heroic cavefolk firing rocks at armies of marauding velociraptors, and ends with Primal Carnage. It’s an online PvP game that allows players to bite their enemies in half, although presumably only if they choose to be a dinosaur. I’d quite like to see a squad of hunters chewing through a brontosaurus’ neck but I just don’t imagine it’s included. Only those who have preordered receive beta access now and even though the official site isn’t reporting the launch yet, players are receiving keys right now. Here’s a video.

Last week, the folks at Lukewarm Media gave us a glimpse at the raptors who'll be stomping around in Primal Carnage, undoubtedly outwitting their human enemies who have guns. And if you want to be the prettiest raptor of them all, a pre-order will get you just that.

Plunking down cash now will not only net you the pretty feathered raptor above in-game, it'll also get you a Steam key for instant access to the ongoing closed beta. Sorry, no flamboyant raptors in the beta.

As made evident by the latest trailer above, Primal Carnage continues to embody the bloody fantasies of 10-year-olds everywhere who want to be real, live dinosaurs when they grow up. This look at the game's humans vs. dinosaurs multiplayer combat highlights two of the playable classes that will be available when the game eventually launches: Velociraptors and Trappers.

As you might guess, Velociraptor gameplay involves a lot of running, climbing and pouncing on squishy humans and their delicious organs, while Trapper gameplay is focused on disabling dinos with nets and then stabbing them with big ol' knives. The Trapper also has two sizable pistols at his disposal, which may or may not be a match for the adorable "Skreee!" sound the raptors make while pouncing.

If your inner child is throwing wild fits, placate them by signing up for the forthcoming beta.

There’s a school of thought that says half the videogames people make are just big-budget, explosion-packed attempts at reliving rah-rah-rah playground fantasies. But that’s a dumb accusation. Obviously, we’re really attempting to relive rah-rah-rah action figure fantasies. Case in point: gaming’s un-ending pursuit of the ultimate man vs dinosaur sim, ripped straight from my childhood’s imaginary “G.I. Joe vs Godzilla” newspaper headlines. Sadly, both Dino D-Day and Orion: Dino Beatdown fell flat, so Primal Carnage is moving in to pick up the slack with its hilariously short, strangely adorable dinosaur arms. But will it succeed? Let’s ask our good friend, Mr Character Showcase.

For some reason, dinosaurs seem to be appearing more and more in my daily conversation. Perhaps the popularity of creatures that died millions of years ago is on the rise again, or perhaps it’s some kind of omen. Only time will tell. Meanwhile, I must continue the dino-commentary, which today includes a man armed with some kind of chainsaw-flamer fighting carnivorous dinosaurs of various sizes. That’s the reasoning behind multiplayer FPS Primal Carnage, of course: that fighting dinosaurs with ludicrous hybrids of modern weaponry will be the kind of thing that we want to do. Is that the kind of thing you want to do? Make some manner of kneejerk judgment, below!(more…)

Primal Carnage isn't just another class-based shooter about gunning down dinosaurs with high-powered weapons. Primal Carnage is about setting dinosaurs on fire with a massive flamethrower, blowing them up with grenades and sometimes putting a chainsaw to a velociraptor's neck, as the above video shows.

Primal Carnage is a class-based online multiplayer game where players embody both humans and dinosaurs. The human mercenary classes include the scientist (sniper), pathfinder (scout), commando (heavy), trapper (engineer) and pyro (pyro). The dinosaurs range from T-rexes to the flying Pteranodon, each with their own specialties. Humans are played from a first-person perspective, while dinos are third-person.

Primal Carnage is set to launch on PC later this year. It comes from Reverb Publishing and developer Lukewarm Media, an up-and-coming independent studio behind the Crysis mod Light Spire: Fortune's Web.

Only a fool would take the recent release of Orion: Dino Beatdown as evidence that there are sufficient dinosaur versus man games in the world. Until the dinosaurs outnumber the dead it is the duty of every so-called hunter of great game to demand more ‘clever girl’ and less ‘shambling, idiotic ghoul’. Like a t-rex drooling on a leashed goat, John has salivated over previous footage of Primal Carnage in the past and now it’s my turn to watch videos of the multiplayer massacre in a pose of slack-jawed admiration. Remember, dinosaurs and mercenaries alike are controlled by people.

There’s a museum in Kentucky entirely dedicated to promulgating a literal interpretation of the Genesis poem to the masses. And a big part of that, for these hardcore Creationists, is insisting that dinosaurs and humans co-existed. So sure, you might want to weep and tear your clothes at the countless millions of dollars being spent on a temple dedicated to spreading what most would consider ignorance. But then at the same time, this is a place that explains there were dinosaurs on Noah’s ark. Which is almost too good a mad thing to not exist in the world.

Although you could argue that money could have been spent helping the poor and needy, with everyone involved instead watching trailers for Primal Carnage. The latest of which is below.
