If there's one thing we can say about this E3 trailer for Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City, it's that it holds off on the zombie for as long as possible. Sometimes the good stuff's worth waiting for.

#watchthis The entirely CGI E3 premiere trailer for Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City found its way to the Internet sometime this morning via Europe. You may see it here. No gameplay, but it deals with the game's story through the eyes of Umbrella operatives tasked with cleaning up their little T-virus mess. You may also play as the good guys trying to expose their actions. The game's events are set between Resident Evil 2 and 3. [via Nowhere Else] More »

You know that trip you were going to take to Japan this summer? Well, you'll be able to do more than sample the local cuisine and take in the sights -- you're desperately needed to help quell the zombie threat. Well, the paper zombie threat, at least.

Capcom, in collaboration with the EA Shooting Bar (an airsoft gun shooting range not affiliated with the rival publisher), will redecorate the inside of the range to look like the S.T.A.R.S. offices from May 20 through June 19, Andriasang reports. It's all to celebrate the 15th anniversary of Resident Evil.

After a full day of shooting paper zombie targets, patrons will be able to enjoy themed food and drinks, watch a 15th anniversary special video and purchase Resident Evil items. The bar is located in the Musashino area of Tokyo.

The evil Umbrella team gets downright G.I. Joe in the latest trailer for Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City. Each member of the evil corporation's zombie apocalypse cleaning crew even has a cool nickname. There's Spectre the sniper, the invisible Vector, the heavy weapons guy Beltway and, uh, Bertha. Honestly, had dear old Mom named us Bertha, we'd probably have turned evil too.

It looks like the Umbrella team will have more than zombies to deal with, as a government Spec Ops team has also descended upon the undead-ravaged Raccoon City. Throw in Leon S. Kennedy and an uncontrollable Tyrant and it looks like the U-Team will have its hands full.

That's right, folks, a roundup of previews. We're gonna be straight with you and outright say it -- we burn too easily! Our skin is delicate and important to us, and as such, we couldn't make it to Capcom's Miami-based press event last week to play, among other things, Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City. But these folks all did and they ... well, they sorta like it:
  • GamesRadar: "The focus on shooting, special abilities and co-op interaction is decidedly atypical for the RE universe; there's no conserving ammo, no turning with your tail between your legs, just balls-out violence against a sea of shambling undead. Yes, that does mean you can move and shoot at the same time, something even the action-heavy RE5 didn't support."
  • Destructoid: "The city streets are littered with zombies, and the game's fast, third-person action encourages aggressively taking them out. Head shots will see undead skulls exploding like melons; there's even a limb-specific damage mode that had arms flopping to the ground ... the core of Operation Raccoon City is there, and there's potential for a fun third-person action title based in the Resident Evil universe. It looks great, probably the grittiest game in the series to date. But it also doesn't feel anything like a Resident Evil game you've played before, and while that may upset long-time fans who abhor change, it's not the worst thing in the context of what Capcom's trying to do with Operation Raccoon City."
  • IGN: "The game revisits one of the most iconic eras of the franchise, taking place entirely during Resident Evils 2 and 3, and specifically focusing on events in Raccoon City itself. While we've seen prequels (Resident Evil Zero) before, this time around players can actually change the storylines of previous games, even killing some of the series' biggest icons like Leon Kennedy. That immediately places Raccoon City in a bit of an 'alternate timeline' territory, though the game's producer told us new details about the Resident Evil world would be revealed. "
  • MTV Multiplayer blog: "I came away from Raccoon City with the impression that there was still a lot of work to be done. At present, it doesn't feel like much more than a reskinned SOCOM with zombies. If you're not a big fan of SOCOM, you're probably going to experience the same problems in RE:RC, namely the stilted controls and loose aiming mechanics."

It doesn't look like the Umbrella Security Service team got much training before embarking on Operation Raccoon City. Taking a zombie hostage? Really? That's how you plan to negotiate with Mr. Leon S. Kennedy? Good luck with that.

Capcom opened up with a veritable salvo of news not one hour ago, so bear with me while I assemble it all. First up are a collection of new shots for co-op tactics-fest Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City. As if those images of the main characters weren’t badass enough, it now turns out that they’re adept at using live zombies as human shields. Leon S. Kennedy never tried that, did he? Nope. What a wuss.(more…)

#gallery The next big Resident Evil for consoles, Operation Raccoon City, will take players back to 1998, the timeline of Resident Evils 2 and 3, except you'll be the bad guys, taking aim at hero Leon Kennedy as a member of a squad of Umbrealla Corporation goons. More »

Resident Evil 5 is a distant memory and there's no sign of Resident Evil 6 on the horizon, so Capcom is taking its iconic survival horror franchise in an entirely new direction. Not only will you take a trip to the past, you'll also be able to change the course of history. With Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City, you not only take control of Umbrella Corporation operatives, but you can actually battle with the iconic hero Leon Kennedy and kill him...

It’s true, there is now a teaser trailer for then recently-confirmed-for-PC Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City. What’s interesting about this is that it apparently came about as an idea during the development of co-optastic Lost Planet 2, and you can see some of the influences from that already, with this looking like quite a gun-heavy zombie shooter, as well as apparently being co-op focused. Could be really interesting. And yes, that trailer is just south of here. (Via Blues.) (more…)

Print media enthusiasts are already poring over exclusive details of Capcom's upcoming squad-based affair, Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City, in PlayStation: The Official Magazine and Official Xbox Magazine, while the digerati have had to settle for ... well, getting all the details early online anyways.

And now, the internet wins again as Capcom's released a teaser trailer for RE:ORC. Some napkin math - 29.97 frames per second and 70 seconds of video - shows we're looking at about 2098 images in the below trailer. If each one of those is worth a thousand words, things aren't looking so good in Printlandia.

Have you heard of a game called Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City? Me either. But Capcom have announced that it’ll be launching on PCs as well as console-toys this Winter, so let’s take a look.

Firstly, though- let’s say your love of Resident Evil was eroded by Resident Evil Zero, Resident Evil 5 or either the Resident Evil movie or any of its three (THREE) sequels. Not a problem! Because Operation Raccoon City sounds less like Resident Evil and more like a 3rd person Left 4 Dead, with your deeply human four man team replaced by an equal number of leathery freaks. First images and details below. (more…)

Capcom has officially confirmed that you'll be able to join Umbrella Corp. in Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City, coming to Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC this winter.

The OXM story had most of the details already: The Umbrella Corp. sends a team (you and up to three friends) to eradicate any evidence of its involvement with the events of Resident Evil 2 in a squad-based shooter developed by Capcom and Vancouver's Slant 6 (SOCOM: Confrontation). There will also be competitive multiplayer, pitting Umbrella against the U.S. Government (which wants to uncover what Umbrella's hiding) -- and both groups must also contend with undead hordes.

Heartbreakingly, it doesn't sound like zombies will be playable, forcing those who like being dead-behind-the-eyes flesh eaters to stick with Left 4 Dead 2 or the new iCarly game.

As we first heard whispers of late last year, Capcom is apparently putting a new twist on the Resident Evil franchise with the help of SOCOM: Confrontation dev Slant Six Games. Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City, a squad based shooter, is reportedly the cover story of Official Xbox Magazine's May 2011 issue.
The issue, which StickSkills claims to have obtained from an unnamed newsstand (pictured above) that routinely sells issues early, supposedly details a game in which players take on the role of Umbrella Corporation special forces on a mission to clean up Raccoon City following the events of Resident Evil 2. According to the site, the team will have access to "big guns" and employ a number of tricks to fool and manipulate enemies -- human or otherwise. Trying to kill series hero Leon (Kennedy) is said to factor into the game, with the possibility to friendly forces being deployed to protect him.

When contacted, neither Capcom nor OXM could comment. You can see the full cover image, provided by StickSkills, after the break.
