Serious Sam 3: BFE Message Board

This week's Humble Weekly Sale collects just about every remake, sequel, and spinoff in Croteam's Serious Sam series as a pay-what-you-want compilation for Windows, Mac, and Linux.

The bundle's core package includes the unapologetically arcadey first-person shooters Serious Sam HD: The First Encounter and Serious Sam HD: The Second Encounter, along with a rarely-seen public test version of the original Serious Sam. Also included are Vlambeer's turn-based RPG Serious Sam: The Random Encounter, Mommy's Best Games' gun-stacking side-scroller Serious Sam Double D, and Be-Rad Entertainment's autoscrolling platformer Serious Sam: Kamikaze Attack.

Bundle buyers who beat the average purchase price (currently around $4) will also receive Serious Sam 2 and the Deluxe Edition of Serious Sam 3 BFE, which includes the Classic (non-HD) versions of The First Encounter and The Second Encounter, along with a downloadable soundtrack.

Serious Sam's Humble Weekly Sale ends on June 13.

Nothing says "I love you, baby" quite like making some massive beasties go boom, which is why Serious Sam 3: BFE is headlining today's Indie Royale Valentine's Bundle 2.0. Also feeling the love are Shad'O, Oozi: Earth Adventure, Doc Clock: The Toasted Sandwich of Time, Lunnye Devitsy 2013 and Wake.

Included in the purchase price (which is "whatever you choose above the super-cheap minimum") are soundtracks for Shad'O, Oozi, Lunnye Devitsy and Wake, and a wallpaper for Doc Clock. Oh, and loping ever onward – to almost completely certain death – in dim hope of truly understanding that most top-hat-less of Others, Serious Sam. Can’t forget that. But he is not alone, neither in that indirectly suicidal pursuit nor his presence on Steam Workshop. Sam’s only just arrived on Valve’s mod-friendly service, but his page is already impressively populated.

I know I played Serious Sam 3 at some point in the last three decades, but I’d be lying if I said I knew it was this year, or last year, or the year before… So many games, arriving so fast, sending me into a giddy tailspin of memories that all blend into each other, creating a miasma of settings, weapons, stories and muscle-memory control sets. The Unigame: that is where I live now.

It's finally coming to XBLA. Get a good look at Serious Sam's return to consoles.

Serious Sam 3: Before First Encounter is getting serious on Xbox Live Arcade next week, launching on October 17 for 1200 MSP. Devolver Digital also announced that the "Jewel of the Nile" DLC arrives on the same day, just a day after it debuts on Steam.

The DLC includes three new campaigns along with some new weaponry. It's available with the Deathmatch, Capture the Flag, Lat Team Standing and My Burden multiplayer versus modes for 1200 MSP too.

Devolver Digital revealed the above trailer to commemorate the announcement. It features the Rich Knuckles character from previous BFE commercials holding down his new mobile helpline, and includes an interesting soundbite from a certain CEO.

Announced back in July, the 'Jewel of the Nile' DLC pack for Serious Sam 3: BFE finally has a launch date: October 16. Jewel of the Nile features three campaign missions that take place during the middle of the single-player story, transporting Sam and his tight white t-shirt to the Temple of Isis on the island of Philae.

All three missions will be playable alone and in co-op, and feature a few new weapons for an asking price of $9.99. Sam will even encounter "a monstrous temple guardian" boss and probably a bunch of other screaming monsters, because that's what happens in Sam's world. He'll even have to fight an Aludran Reptiloid but you probably already knew that because you saw the screen above. Look how perceptive you are!

One of the nice things about putting words in your mouth and then regurgitating them for all the world to hear is that you can’t verbally eviscerate me for that awful pun. Oh Sam, you’re the greatest. So anyway, you say you’ve finally got some new content on the way for Serious Sam 3: BFE, huh? And it’s a campaign-extending to-do called “Jewel of the Nile”? Devolver Digital announced DLC for Serious Sam 3: BFE today by the name of Serious Sam 3: Jewel of the Nile. The DLC features three new missions set in the middle of the game's storyline, in which Sam explores the Temple of Isis on the island of Philae.

Serious Sam 3: Jewel of the Nile will launch on PC in October 2012 for a currently unannounced price. Check out our gallery of the DLC below!

Software piracy is illegal and unfair to the people who make and sell games. That's enough of a deterrent for most people. The rest may find the giant, invincible, super-fast, assault-rifle-wielding scorpion monster more convincing.

That's the new DRM measure enacted by Serious Sam 3: BFE developer Croteam. We see the potential for this to become an industry-standard method of preventing unauthorized game copying. Or, in simpler terms, if that scary-ass monster wants to go into other games, we are powerless to stop it.

Some companies’ DRM is stupidly cruel, punishing only those who have legitimately purchased the game, and not those who pirate it. Well, most companies’ DRM is that. Serious Sam 3′s DRM is brilliantly cruel, punishing only those who pirated it. By relentlessly pursuing them with a giant invincible armoured scorpion. As revealed by Dark Side Of Gaming, only those who unlawfully duplicate the game encounter this immortal enemy, who haunts them from the opening moments. You can see it in action below.

As Serious Sam 3 spokes-dude Rich Knuckles is quick to point out, however, that's "kids blood" in the plural sense, not "kid's blood" in the possessive. Not that "multiple child blood" sounds much better, mind you, but it's actually not as bad as it seems.

Notable for stunningly destructive weapons (who among us can rekindle memories of Doom's BFG 9000 without getting all weepy), displaced body parts, creepy music, creepier sound effects, and visually alarming yet severely dim-witted enemies that relied on brute force and/or sheer numbers rather than ...

The only honest first-person shooter is back. Is Sam Stone a one-trick pony? Well, yes. That’s the point, stupid. I’ve been blasting my way through the singleplayer campaign of Croteam’s latest, and I’m ready to tell you what I made of it. Though, If I was allowed, I would make each and every one of the following 1000-odd words ‘blam.’

If there's one thing that Serious Sam needs, it's more story. Also, there's a gun that shoots enormous balls. So it's still totally Serious Sam.

The third Serious Sam game is released on Steam at 6pm today. TODAY! That’s so soon it’s almost right now. I guess we are working on a review of it. Are we? I am imagining that the other members of RPS are sort of shrugging non-committally in response to this question, but actually I have no idea, because I am sat in an annex of my kitchen typing this gibberish into the internet, and they are off being heroes in various corners of post-industrial England. Croteam’s Serious Sam 3: BFE, which I hope stands for ‘Best Friends forEver’, has an exciting new trailer out where the guns are relegated to second place. In place of well-oiled gun barrels and polished, throbbing rockets it’s the grim melee assaults that strut confidently around in their chaps. It’s like the Queensbury Rules: 2nd edition, where “That no shoes or boots with spikes or sprigs be allowed”, has been replaced with “If your heart is ripped out and squeezed into a paste, you have till the count of ten to get back on your feet.”

If you're anywhere near anything that could become a mosh pit, and you don't want said place to become a mosh pit, we suggest turning down the volume on this Serious Sam 3: BFE weapons trailer. Otherwise, instant mosh pit.

Pretty much everything in Serious Sam 3 wants to kill you. The kleer skeletons pounce at close range and toss chain bolos from afar, the ape-like Gnaar try to eat you, and the headless suicide humanoids with bombs for hands want to kill you so badly they can't resist screaming while they charge. You thought you were going to be playing Serious Sam 3: BFE in October, but you were wrong. Well, you're wrong after today, at least. This morning Croteam, developer behind the Serious Sam franchise, announced Serious Sam 3's new "target" release date as November 22, 2012. They say the delay fro...

Serious Sam 3: BFE is taking an extra month to prepare for its debut and will now arrive on November 22. The time will be spent polishing the game, which was originally expected to launch October 18.

"The game is playing wonderfully and looks great, so we are going through to balance the difficulty and fine tune the code to eliminate any technical issues at launch," said Davor Hunski, Chief Creative at Croteam.

The game is currently available for pre-order on Steam and other digital distribution systems for 10 percent off. On Steam, there's an additional 10 percent off if you already own a previous Serious Sam title. There's also the "timed exclusive" of Devolver Digital CFO Fork Parker as a multiplayer avatar for use in Serious Sam 3: BFE -- meaning you'll be able to shoot him over and over again for making you wait an extra month. Revenge!
