The sentinels at the VG247 news-tower have spotted the distant arrival of twelve minutes of Metro: Last Light footage. Needless to say, I’ve embedded it below for your watching pleasure. And I must say: crikey on the atmospherics. There’s quite a bit of sneaking about and knifing people in the back, but much more straight-up firefight action, and it all looks extraordinary. Not only that but it sounds extraordinary. The audio design is fabulous.(more…)

When last we left the protagonists of Metro 2033: Last Light, they were knee-deep in the crummiest attempt at stealth ever. In this, the third installment of the game's E3 demo, they've exchanged their feeble sneakiness for far more noticeable acrobatic feats. Also: There's a murder train.

#metrolastlight In the third gameplay video from the E3 demo of Metro: Last Light, our protagonists find themselves speeding down what looks to be a pretty deep tunnel. Dark and fast-paced, the video mostly shows the player shooting bad guys on a train, in classic shooter form. More »

The final part of the Metro Last Light E3 demo is up (gosh, they made this one last, didn’t they?). You can see part one here, and part two here. This third part contains the action bit, an on-rails minecart shoot-out that I think demonstrates the engine at its absolute finest. Incredible lighting and cloth physics give this an air of realism that’s a little nerve-racking. You can see it below.

In the second part of Metro: Last Light's E3 demo, players are treated to what we're sure is a rousing Russian speech. Well, we're sure it's Russian, at least. Some of the rousing appears to be external to the speech.

Developer 4A Games is on record saying it wants Metro: Last Light to push PC hardware to its limit and be the best-looking console game ever when it is released next year. Take a look for yourself to see how it's coming along with part one of the gameplay demo shown last month at E3...

We know that not all of you have played Metro 2033, which, despite its problems, is still one of last year's best games. We get it. There are absolutely some janky flies in that otherwise delicious soup, and some of you just don't have a strong enough stomach. It's fine.

But after watching the above two minutes of pre-alpha gameplay (the first in a three-part series) from follow-up Metro: Last Light, it looks like this may be a stew that you won't be able to resist slurping down. Just look at the physics when Artyom shoots the pot! You can practically feel the soup sloshing out of it!

In closing, who's ready for lunch?

At E3 this year, THQ showed an impressive, if somewhat unrepresentative, demo of Metro: First Light. Instead of showing the game as it will play, they created an all-action sequence that shows off quite how remarkable the engine is. Rather than offering slow, spooky the atmosphere you’ll really be playing in. The first part of that video, broken up into three chunks for maximum annoyance, is below.

What is Metro: Last Light? Metro: Last Light is the sequel to the 2010 first person shooter, Metro 2033. It's being developed by 4A Games, the studio behind the original. The game takes place right after the first one, and stars the same character, Artyom. For the sequel the developers are hard at work improving on the problems gamers had with the first title...

It's no secret that I'm a sucker for post-apocalyptic and dystopian settings. I don't like bright and cheery environs in my fiction, whether it's in games, movies or books. I tore through tomes like The Road and Alas, Babylon as fast as I could when I first read them. Red Dawn is one of my favorite ...

Developer 4A Games refers to Metro 2033 as a "flawed masterpiece." A cult hit that earned pretty good reviews last year, it was criticized for problems like its AI and some broken mechanics. 4A is looking to fix those bothers and realize the game's full potential when it releases the sequel, Metro: Last Light, next year...
