Which makes sense, given the whole apocalypse motif. Also, hey, is that Jeor Mormont playing the priest?

#darksiders Developer Vigil Games' next Darksiders title retains the hack and slash formula from its predecessor, but it ventures into a new territory with its storyline. And even after just barely catching a glimpse of it, I already want to know more. More »

- Reconfirmation that Death will get his horse Despair right at the beginning of the game.
- Death will meet the Crowfather at the start of the game.
- The Crowfather resides in what is known as the Crowfather’s Temple.
- The Crowfather and the Death have history, and it seems to have ended in a bad situation for the Crowfather, causing him to be distrustful of Death.
- The Crowfather knows pretty much everything that goes on in the world. Death asks the Crowfather what really happened to War.
- Death and the Crowfather will battle early on, with Death defeating the Crowfather. - - Presumably this causes the Crowfather to tell the truth about what happened to War.
- Death wants to make sure the Apocalypse never happened. (Since the game takes place after the Apocalypse actually happened, I’m not exactly sure of the meaning of this).
- There are 2D cut-scenes between chapters that talk about the lore and history of the Darksiders series. These will give some relation between the original Darksiders and Darksiders II. The Crowfather will give an intro to the new areas during these 2D cut-scenes.
- The four main zones are the Maker’s Realm, the Dead Plains, the Angel Realm, and the Demon Realm. Each zone introduces a new ability to Death.
- You can play in a linear style or do things in different order. There are tons of sidequests. Sidequests are triggered by exploration or by interacting with NPC’s.
- The critical path is 25+ hours of gameplay.

Thanks to Mases for the heads up!

#listenhere You know what? I think that Jesper Kyd is a darned fine composer. He's best known for his work on the Assassin's Creed series, and his work has come to embody that series for me—that piercing, odd solo female voice, driving electronic beats, and wide-open string arrangements. He captures the series' obsession with flight with grace and vision. So much video game music is content to simply mimic the sounds of hollywood, but Kyd has always struck me as a composer willing to experiment and find his own sound. More »

He's what you might call a particularly "hands-on" kind of reaper.

THQ’s tightrope dance-battle against Death while suspended over an active volcano continues. In short, THQ’s doing better than expected, but it still lost another $50 million last quarter. So then, what’s the forecast for the company that already took a chainsaw blade to Warhammer 40K: Dark Millennium‘s massively multiplayer bits? Well, there are some ups and downs to be sure. Mostly, though, we’re looking at an ugly, undifferentiated heap of questions.

I have no idea if we're going to get a 'first edition' of Darksiders II on Wii U, but here's a trailer for more footage in general.

I bet it’s lonely being Death incarnate. Like, people generally thank, say, firemen, police officers, and bloodthirsty mercenaries for their work. Cookie baskets, hugs, and free puppies are all pretty much par for the course. But Death? His only friend is the world’s smallest violin. Perhaps, though, Darksiders II will show people his more sensitive side. Maybe his cold, black heart beats to the rhythm of a soulful acoustic guitar ballad. Unfortunately, THQ’s announced that the absurdly muscular embodiment of our mortality will have to live with his crippling depression for a couple extra months.

Aww, damnit. It sounded like THQ was preparing to delay Darksiders II from its seemingly solid June 26 release date, and the publisher confirmed that delay today. Darksiders II is now aiming for August.

“This is great news for the team at Vigil,” said the companies on the game’s website, “because it allows additional time for polish and to ensure that all aspects of Darksiders II meet the high-quality bar the team is targeting.”

THQ and Vigil also published a FAQ, addressing several questions about the delay. Is it due to the Wii U version? No. Is it because of the layoffs related to Warhammer 40,000: Dark Millenium Online? No.

Well, that’s what they’re saying, anyway.

I guess...I guess I can wait, and I’ll just watch the ending to Darksiders again.

#darksiders The first Darksiders won a loyal following of fans for its badass remix of the Legend of Zelda's dungeon-crawling gameplay. But you couldn't really differentiate the way that main character War played. He was a bruiser with weapons that worked the same way for everyone. But Death will be more individualized, once players get their hands on the new lead character. More »
