Over at Complex Gaming they're having some fun adding "honest" blurbs to popular game covers, asking "What if games told the truth before you dropped $60?" Honestly, I'd probably buy them for the blurbs alone. Read more...

Resident Evil is old enough to vote as of March. (That means its 18 years old). Its fanbase also has aged commensurately, Capcom said in a recent investor guide. This is not really a good thing, the company delicately points out.Read more...

In Japan, taxis are typically black. Sometimes, they're white or even yellow, but generally, people think of them as being dark-colored and dull looking. These taxis, however, are anything but. You are looking at "itataku" (痛タク). "Ita" (痛) literally refers to "pain", but it's now slang for things covered with geeky stickers, whether that's cars, snowboards, or bicycles—whatever. The word "pain" refers either to the pain they inflicted on their owners' wallets or the pain unleashed on everyone's eyes. Here, "taku" is short for "takushii" (タクシー) or "taxi". The northern Japanese city of Sapporo in Hokkaido is becoming famous for its itataku. As Japanese site IT Media explains, the trend really began to take off last summer when a taxi was "sticker wrapped" with Little Berries, an iOS sightseeing app for Hokkaido. Last summer's itataku wasn't the first, however. There have been itataku spotted in other parts of Japan during the past few years, such as below. It's not uncommon for trains or monorails in Japan to be wrapped with soft drink or restaurant ads. There have even been sticker wrappings for buses. But "itataku" seemed new and created a great deal of media interest. Since then, other geeked out cabs followed, ranging from Evangelion to Resident Evil 6. While these taxis might promote games, anime or even pop stars like Eir Aoi (below), the cab companies are supposedly not receiving advertising fees, due to strict regulations on how ads can be displayed on taxis. Instead, the cab drivers and cab companies shell out the equivalent of several hundred dollars to cover their cars in the things they love. "To be honest, this is for the taxi drivers," Norihito Takeuchi of Sapporo cab company Choei-Taxi tells IT Media. The idea is also that these colorful cabs are eye-catching and liven up the city streets—and, thus, Sapporo. The itataku seem to be worth the excess cash: Geeked out taxis are apparently doing twice as well as regular ones, Takeuchi says. That means the drivers are, too. As Takeuchi explains, regular advertisement fees go to the taxi companies. The drivers don't see a yen of them. However, itataku, even with the free publicity, directly impact the driver. They stand out in a sea of bland taxis, and some folks really want to take them, because they are so unusual. Prior to Choei-Taxi's Little Berries taxi launch, Takeuchi decided to wrap a taxi for last year's Toyako Manga-Anime Festa. While he hired someone to wrap the car, Takeuchi oversaw the design himself. The nerd covered taxi was a big hit—which must have been satisfying for him. Previously, he had pitched the idea of wrapping cabs—an idea that had gone nowhere. It's now a win-win situation. Video games, anime, and pop music can get free publicity, while Choei-Taxi drivers can attract passengers. In the meantime, Hokkaido is expanding its own geek subculture. "I think it would be great if Hokkaido became famous for itataku," said Takeuchi, adding he hopes that visitors from foreign countries come to Hokkaido to see the itataku. "I want various kinds of itataku on the streets." By the looks of it, these nerd chauffeurs are on their way. Resident Evil 6, Capcom's flagship of horrors for the fiscal year concluding March 31, 2013, certainly has "plateaued," as Capcom put it in today's results. The game, which launched in October of 2012, shipped over 4.5 million units at the time. The company announced today the game sold 4.9 million units. Comparatively, Resident Evil 5 has sold 6.1 million units.

"As a result, [Resident Evil 6] did not meet with our projection," the company's statement reads. "In contrast, Dragon's Dogma became a greater-than-expected hit product in the domestic market, which has high profitability, and became an unprecedented million seller in the recent years as an original title."

Overall, Capcom sales were up 14.6 percent for the year to ¥94.07 million ($950M), with net income down to ¥2.97 million ($30M), which is a decrease of 56 percent from last year. Capcom expects this year to be similar in revenues, but hopes to bring that profit back to the 2012 level. This year's line-up includes Remember Me and Lost Planet 3.

Sure, you've written countless fan fiction about how Ellis learned martial arts during his summer in Tibet, before coming back home to work as a mechanic, but thanks to the Resident Evil 6 X Left 4 Dead 2 crossover, you can actually see his training in action.

Resident Evil 6 is Now Available on Steam!

Blending action and survival horror, Resident Evil 6 promises to be the dramatic horror experience of 2013. Resident Evil favorites Leon S. Kennedy, Chris Redfield and Ada Wong are joined by new characters, including Jake Muller, to face a new horror, the highly virulent C-virus, as the narrative moves between North America, the war-torn Eastern European state of Edonia and the Chinese city of Lanshiang.

With four distinct, yet interwoven story threads, each with their own pair of protagonists for either solo or co-op play, both offline and online, not only will Resident Evil 6 deliver both different perspectives and gameplay styles but, with the introduction of the innovative Crossover mechanic players will be able to team up and share the horror. At key moments during the game, up to four players can join together online to tackle a specific situation, with some stages seeing the usual partnerships swapped to further increase the depth of gameplay.

Resident Evil 6 drops on PC on March 22, and if anyone is still interested in playing the game and attempting to have a good time, there's a free benchmark test available now.

Capcom announced the benchmark test in January, alongside news of a new mode called "The Mercenaries: No Mercy." It's based on the existing Mercenaries mode for consoles, but with "more enemies on screen than ever before." Ada Wong's campaign also comes standard with the PC version of Resident Evil 6.

If that all sounds wonderful, see if your rig is up to snuff with Nvidia's free PC test.

Resident Evil‘s been expanding its increasingly action-oriented empire for years now, but – while the gesture’s much-appreciated – it hasn’t exactly seen many of its finest hours on PC. Resident Evil 4 was a brilliant scare-’em-up chainsawed in the clavicle by one of the worst ports ever, Resident Evil 5 was profoundly mediocre, Operation Raccoon City was execrable, and Resident Evil 6, well, it’s not out yet. But cries of agony from consoletropolis’ direction don’t exactly bode well. So yes, the once-legendary survival-horror series is in a pretty bad place at the moment. But there is hope. Well, sorta. If nothing else, DICE at least saw Capcom saying the right things.

Capcom is working on DLC for Resident Evil 6 featuring Japanese voiceovers for its audience in the country, Siliconera translates from Famitsu. Resident Evil 6, like many other Capcom games, has English voiceovers only, even in the Japanese version.

Not that the game has suffered in Japan for a lack of native voice acting - Resident Evil 6 for PS3 is Japan's No. 5 game of 2012, selling 828,000 copies nationally last year. Capcom shipped 3.7 million copies of Resident Evil 6 worldwide in the first half of fiscal 2013, nicely padding its overall revenue for the period, though it wasn't even close to hitting our personal "best of 2012" list.

The PC version of Resident Evil 6 will include a new mode, sort of. The Mercenaries: No Mercy (unofficial name: "The Naries") is based on the existing Mercenaries mode, but with "more enemies on screen than ever before." Ada Wong's campaign will be available when you start the game, playable in co-op, and you will be able to "fine tune the in-game camera," features that were added to the console versions in updates.

Sometime next month, in advance of the March 22 launch of RE6 for PC, Capcom will release a free benchmark test. We'll warn you: regardless of how well your computer handles it, it's still going to be Resident Evil 6.

In addition to the PC news, Capcom also revealed a March release window for Siege Mode on PS3 and Xbox 360, a $4 add-on for two to six people to play online. One team attempts to kill a rookie (AI-controlled) BSAA agent as monsters, while another team controls the living human characters from RE6 as they try to protect him.

My PC can do many things for me, but – aside from its complete inability to provide me with the authentic human connections I so desire – the main thing it’s missing is Resident Evil 6. Maybe that’s not such a bad thing, however, because I’ve heard through Consoletopia’s living room wire-tangle of a grapevine that Resident Evil 6 is such a bad thing. If Capcom can clean it up before it makes its way over to our neck of the woods in March, more power to it. But, if RE6 ends up leaving a bilious gulp of disappointment in our guts, Resident Evil: Revelations might just be our best shot at feeling good as new. It was originally a Nintendo 3DS game, of all things, but it’s one of the strongest the Resident Evil series has seen in years. Seriously. And there are boats! Trailer’s after the break.

Retro is the way to go when it comes to Resident Evil these days, and that includes new (old) costume DLC for Resident Evil 6, unlocked by participating in upcoming online events.

The first one, "Zombie Mayhem," is set to take place on December 28. If players across the world kill a collective 15 million zombies, they're eligible to unlock one costume from the set seen above. No word on which costume will be the first award, but future online events will be announced on the Resident Evil site, so perhaps a bookmark is in order.

Capcom has also added Resident Evil 6 to the Games on Demand section of Xbox Live Marketplace. The Xbox 360 download weighs in at 7.57GB and will set you back $39.99, the current price of Resident Evil 6 at retail.

The three new multiplayer modes for Resident Evil 6 are now available exclusively on Xbox 360, priced at 320 MS Points ($4) each, or 720 MS Points ($9) for the complete trio. The three modes are Predator, Survivors and Onslaught, all of which are things we thought people already encountered in Resident Evil games in general, so we're not sure how "exclusive" they really are.

Predator has up to six players as humans and Ustanak, in a rotation of quick-fire rounds. Survivors is for two to six players, solo and team deathmatch style: get taken down and respawn as an enemy character, where you have to take out a human character in order to reclaim your own human status. Onslaught has two players take our waves of enemies, though completing combos will push enemies into the other player's horde. Because that's what friends are for.

All three modes are available today, only on Xbox 360. There is no word on a launch for additional platforms.

Capcom’s been taking its time with the PC port of Resident Evil 6, because that is what you do when people still mail you boxes of live leaping spiders on a daily basis in reaction to Resident Evil 4′s PC version. I assume this means it will be functional, and that I can finally stop illegally importing all these leaping spiders. Capcom, however, isn’t stopping there. Oh no. It’s also including all the features that traditionally accompany modern Steam releases. Does that shock you? Are you frightened and bewildered? Of course you are. We’re in spooooky territory, after all. And in the spookiest month of them all – March – no less. Details after the break.

Three new multiplayer modes are headed to the Xbox 360 of Resident Evil 6 on Tuesday, December 18: "Predator," "Survivors" and "Onslaught."

Predator casts one player as the bioweapon Ustanak, while all other players attempt to bring the great beast down. Survivor mode augments regular solo/team vs. mode by making felled humans rise as zombies, who must chomp on some noggins before being able to respawn as a person.

Lastly, Onslaught sounds like a weird combination of Gear of War's Horde mode and Dr. Mario's multiplayer, where two players attempt to survive separate waves of enemies, with kill combos sending more zombies to the opponent's side.

Each mode will set you back 320 MS Points ($4) if purchased individually, or 720 MS Points ($9) if purchased as a bundle. No word on when this content will become available on other platforms.

Capcom is looking to bring its game development duties home again, hiring an additional 1,000 people to do so. In an investor Q&A, the publisher announced plans to hire this extra staff over the course of ten years, adding to the 1,500 game developers on staff as of the end of September.

"We want to further improve the quality of our games by maintaining an internal game development team," a Capcom representative (likely CEO Kenzo Tsujimoto, but it is not specified) said. Answering a follow-up question about budget, he elaborated. "The purpose of increasing our game developer team is to create a larger percentage of our games internally. Therefore, we believe that there will be no significant change in total development expenditures mainly because we will be shifting outsourced operations to our own workforce."

Speaking of internally developed Capcom games, the Capcom rep said that Resident Evil 6 has been "successful to some degree" despite its cool critical reception. Because of its high shipment rate and "repeat sales in Japan and overseas," Capcom believes "it is too early to reach a conclusion about how users view this game."
