Closure, the black-and-white game in which objects only exist if a light is shining on them, gets its own spotlight this week. Starting tomorrow, the PSN game is free for PlayStation Plus members.

Critter Crunch is pretty much the opposite of black and white, featuring prominent rainbow vomitus. Capy's PS3 puzzle game isn't free, but it is really cheap this week at $1.40. Other special offers include Alien Breed for $8, Derrick the Deathfin for $4, and 2c0% off of NHL 13.

Aquatically themed platforming adventures have always been something of a dicey proposition. They seem simple enough on paper, but – as with massive floods or large gatherings of otherwise docile cats – adding thousands of gallons of water tends to change the equation a bit. I mean, let’s face it: underwater levels are generally the worst, and Ecco The Dolphin’s not anywhere near as good as you remember. So then, it’s a happy surprise to hear that, while short, PSN import Derrick The Deathfin‘s delightfully bitey ride is sweet while it lasts.

Derrick the Deathfin, last year's best game about a papercraft shark taking revenge against an oil company by destroying all its offshore facilities, is leaving its native PlayStation 3 waters and taking a swim in the PC and Mac ecosystem. The PC/Mac release of Different Tuna's side-scrolling action game comes as something of a surprise, available for $7.99 direct from the developer's website.

The PSN version is also on sale this week. When PSN returns, you can buy it at 25% off. Until then, enjoy a papercraft PS3 controller.

There are so many games out there we couldn't possibly review them all. Welcome to Snapshot, where we highlight games that might fall outside our usual coverage but are still something we think you should know about. An evil, or simply negligent, oil company pollutes the ocean a young shark lives in, and then carelessly kills his parents. The shark swears revenge and then goes on a rampage, traveling the world's oceans to personally destroy every piece of machinery the company owns, virtually emptying the waters of fish to keep himself alive along the way.

In most media, including other games, this would be the setup for a grim, violent story. But Derrick the Deathfin somehow takes the murderous revenge story with environmental themes ... and makes it adorable.

Derrick the Deathfin is one of the approximately 800 games coming to PSN today. Developer Different Tuna sent out a launch trailer today, full of the game's trademark papercraft art, to prevent it from getting lost among the multitudes.

PlayStation Store Highlights

Dishonored is available today on the PlayStation Store, and if you pre-ordered it you should have received your dynamic theme. There are a few other PS3 full games out today, including Birds of Steel, Naughty Bear, The Testament of Sherlock Holmes and a Devil May Cry HD Collection (complete with Trophy support). Another fine addition to the PS Store is the next installment of The Walking Dead episodic adventure. Fans of the series will be happy to hear that Episode 4 – Around Every Corner, is now available.

The latest game to hop on the Cross-Buy trend, if you purchase Retro City Rampage on PSN or PS Vita, you’ll be able to download the other version at no additional cost. Although there are only a few PSone classics being added to the PS Vita store this week, there are several other PS Vita titles releasing today including Doctor Who: The Eternity Clock, Spy Hunter and Sunflowers.

Plus members receive The King of Fighters XIII in their Instant Game Collections this week, along with a few discounts on King of Fighters XIII add-on content, Derrick the Deathfin and The Revenge of Shinobi.

Developer Different Tuna has finally completed all of its cutting, folding, and gluing, and is ready to present its interactive papercraft diorama (which is more of an action game, really) Derrick the Deathfin on PS3.

The PlayStation Network-exclusive game will be out October 9 for $7.99. Until then, you can busy yourself with the adorably bespoke trailer above, and prepare your own collectible toy thanks to the papercraft pufferfish model Different Tuna posted to the PlayStation Blog.

At Different Tuna, we’ve been working astonishingly hard to bring you PSN‘s premier underwater papercraft action game — Derrick the Deathfin. We have 32 handcrafted levels and three level types, set across four challenging continents, with each level being increasingly fiendish and colourful in its design. On October 9th this world can be yours to explore, for $7.99.

You know that feeling when you’re sitting on a roller coaster, slowly ascending, just in sight of the summit? That’s what you’re feeling right now. This time though, the ride is going to be much wilder than anything you’ve experienced before, and everything on the way down is going to be made out of paper.

To succeed you must fight, jump, race and eat your way through a myriad of confusingly textured circumstances. Good luck!

While you’re waiting for Derrick to swim onto your PS3, you can busy yourself by making your own papercraft puffer fish! Or Pufferius Boxius — his official Latin name.

Expect more hapless, goofy DIY papercraft characters as we build up to the game’s release!

Derrick the Deathfin is the world’s very first underwater papercraft game. The action – of which there is plenty – takes place in an irreverent aquatic world full of paper, goofy fish, paper, arcade action, paper, wanton destruction, and paper.*

After Derrick’s parents are brutally turned into soup he sets forth on a worldwide rampage of destruction in order to make himself feel a bit better. On his travels he eats all manner of dopey delights for dinner, duels with paper enemies and decimates man-made cardboard monstrosities. Derrick also has a distinct fondness for picking up diamonds and jumping through burning tyres in the sky. Just like a real shark!

Derrick journeys through 32 beautiful, vibrant levels set across 11 environments and four continents. He is in a constant battle against his metabolism, needing to constantly eat to stay alive. He must move, groove, jump, race and puzzle his way through increasingly crazy challenges to attain paper-shark certified glory.

You could describe the gameplay of Derrick the Deathfin as the illegitimate lovechild of Ecco the Dolphin and Sonic the Hedgehog. Possibly with Joe Danger filming in the background during conception.

Indeed, the idea for Derrick came from a mildly confrontational and slightly inebriated argument one evening about the relative merits of Sonic and Ecco. Clearly the only logical next step was to try to combine the two game styles and frame it all in an underwater papercraft world. So that is what we set about doing.

The unique, vibrant art style of the game has been masterminded by street artist and all-round superstar Ronzo. All of characters and environments in the game are based on real papercraft, often being modelled in paper before being photographed and recreated as 3d models, then imported into the game. This process and Ronzo’s uniquely goofy character designs give the game an original look and charm.

Derrick the Deathfin’s distinct styling and accessible yet frantic arcade action gameplay is designed to appeal to anybody with a PS3 and a bit of sense. Derrick will be shredding his way onto PSN this summer, so stay tuned!
