While self-funding a massively multiplayer real-time strategy game such as Stronghold Kingdoms was a risky move for a developer like Firefly Studios, it seems to be paying off as the castle building game has attracted over three million players since its debut on February 27.

Firefly cites a passionate player base for the game's success, and notes that the game draws 200,000 users from 100 countries each month. Of course, it helps that Stronghold Kingdoms is free to download and play, and is supported by optional microtransactions, but given the number of other online games available to players with the same "free to play" price of entry, that three million player figure is still an impressive achievement.

PE: How will Earthlock: Festival of Magic use the Wii U Gamepad?

FT: The game pad for the Wii U offers us a secondary screen, so our initial ideas revolve around putting combat menus, maps and such on there. Currently it feels like a good way to use it without messing with the gameplay on the main screen. Our largest concern with input devices such as the gamepad is that the game needs to feel good to interact with and not feature a gimmick that gets boring quick.

PE: What is the target Resolution and Frame-rate for Earthlock: Festival of Magic on Wii U, PS4, and Xbox One?

FT: As high as possible.. haha. We haven’t set any targets yet. We are yet to recieve the PS4 and Xbox One devkits so it’s hard for us to talk about that. For the Wii U, all we can say right now, is that we won’t dip beneath 720p and 30fps. We will, of course, do our best to deliver both as high frame-rate and resolution as we possibly can without damaging the gameplay.

We regret to inform you that LEVEL-5 International America, Inc. has no plans to release the Nintendo 3DS™ eShop version of INAZUMA ELEVEN in the UK regions. While this was a challenging decision, it was deemed unsuitable to release a game with American English voice acting in a territory in which the franchise has been so firmly established with the British English voice cast and downloadable game size constraints prevented us from including both English voice options. While we understand your disappointment, please know that this does not set a precedent for future releases. We at LEVEL-5 International America want to release our games to as wide an audience as possible and we continue to strive towards that goal.
