Not content with remodelling Wang for the sophisticated modern gamer, Devolver Digital have been snapping up promising indie titles to unleash on the masses. Not content with his machinations in the interactive sphere, the devilish and devious Fork Parker has now set his eyes on the medium of documentary film. Super Game Jam is a five-episode series, with each instalment following two developers over a 48 hour period as they attempt to make a game together. Episode one, featuring Richard ‘Ibb and Obb’ Boeser and Vlambeer’s Jan Willem Nijman, is due in April. Trailer, details and thoughts below.

Hey everyone, Rob from Curve here. We’re happy to announce our very first PlayStation 4 title – Stealth Inc: Ultimate Edition – is out in stores this week. The Ultimate Edition includes the main Stealth Inc game alongside the DLC expansions, “The Lost Clones” and “The Teleporter Chambers.” The game is available for $14.99.

At Curve we’re best known for bringing over the indie games of other developers to the PlayStation platform, but Stealth Inc is our very own creation. Thought up in the mind of our Lead Designer, Jonathan “Bidds” Biddle, the game was originally developed in his lunchtimes while working on other projects.

We originally released Stealth Inc last year for PlayStation Vita and PlayStation 3, and it’s been one of our most popular titles ever since, so it was a the obvious choice to bring over to PlayStation 4. With the DLC included, the Ultimate Edition includes 120 levels versus the original game’s 80.

13247404003_0269f58567_n.jpg13247593224_f57de40349_n.jpg

It’s not just about numbers though! A puzzle-platformer, Stealth Inc relies on really good level design. That means we need to create levels that are fun and challenging, but not so hard you want to stop playing the game. That’s a skill we developed making Stealth Inc, but it’s a skill that really shines in the DLC packs.

The 40 DLC levels in the Ultimate Edition represent some of the most varied and difficult challenges yet, and explore more of the back story of the facility where Stealth Inc is set. Of course, they also include brand new leader boards and achievements that will challenge even the few people skilled enough to S-Rank the levels of the original game.

13247406173_61dfa3191b_n.jpg13247256315_3b7bf2e6f7_n.jpg

It’s great to be able to join the growing crowd of PlayStation 4 developers. Stealth Inc might have been a PlayStation 3 and Vita title, but we’re also very busy working on games like The Swapper to bring to PlayStation 4 this year, as well as continuing to be one of the most active developers for the PlayStation Vita.

As always, if you have any questions about Stealth Inc or any other of our upcoming or existing titles, let us know in the comments!

The game will release in June to coincide with the film's debut.

Coming from an IGN interview with Retro Studios President Michael Kelbaugh...

“For a lot of western developers, when an idea comes up that pushes you beyond the scope of the schedule, you automatically say no, whether it’s a good idea or a bad idea. That’s not the Nintendo way. If it’s a good idea, we’ll find time to make it.

The Wii U is a powerhouse of technology that we had to transition to. We had brand new tools, brand new engine, brand new everything. There was a lot of unknowns [for us]. From a technology standpoint we’re trying to develop that technology while we’re developing a new game at the same time. That was really challenging.”

The following comes from Nintendo Producer Kensuke Tanabe...

“At Nintendo we focus on that main gameplay element and until that is created and determined we don’t move past that step. Until we have that finalized we just repeat that trial and error process over and over again. I believe that it took time for Retro to really get a good understanding of the way that we create games. That mindset that we have going in took them a while to grasp. And of course if you’re a game developer you want to create the game that you want to create, but one thing I can say, at Nintendo what we focus on is what is going to make the customers happy.”

Ever wish you could toss out some of the weapons that the CPU players use in Super Mario Kart? Been angry ever since the game released that you couldn't toss out Bowser's fireball? Well that's all changed now, thanks to a resourceful player that put together some custom Action Replay codes! If you have an SNES, Super Mario Kart and an Action Replay device, you'll be set!

80E93500 + 80E937?? Banana Peel replaced with another placeable item (replace ?? with one of the values in the list below)
00: Banana Peel (placed on ground)
01: Green Shell (thrown)
02: Red Shell
03: Chomp (acts like a thrown Green Shell)
04: AI Items (placed on ground) @$
05: AI Items (thrown) @+
06: Banana Peel (thrown)
07: Green Shell (placed on ground)

@: The specific item placed depends on the character value. Mario and Luigi don't have placeable items, so they default to the Princess and Toad's Poison Mushroom. The Poison Mushroom doesn't have the desired effect in Battle Mode--while it does shrink and slow down anyone who touches it, they cannot be squished and the effect lasts until the end of the battle.

$: Bowser's fireball doesn't seem to spawn at all with this value.

+: While this is the value used when computer players throw items in front of them, it normally seems to behave the same as 04 when used by a player (there's probably an additional timer variable, because CPU AI holds onto items as Jeville mentioned in a prior post) Bowser's fireball does appear with this value. Nevertheless, it will collide with Bowser shortly after being placed if he is sitting still, as the fireball spawns at the "bottom" of its clockwise radius (6 o'clock).

80EEF280 + 80EEF3F4 Allows AI Items to be thrown by a player (side effect: AI will no longer hold items before throwing them)
7E0D7C03 Player 1 always gets a Banana Peel from item boxes
7E0D7E03 Player 2 always gets a Banana Peel from item boxes

This is State of Service, an ongoing review of the online service of a recently launched game. See our scored review of Titanfall here. Tuesday, March 18 | T-minus 23 days until final verdict
Current State of Service: Good
Summary: Launch day problems resolved. PC experiencing limited issues. Australia receives dedicated servers.

One week out, Titanfall seems to be running strong. Isolated reports of lag and hanging matchmaking screens are reaching us, but the Joystiq staff is reporting no significant issues on either PC or Xbox One. The biggest complaint so far seems to be uneven matchmaking, with low-level players regularly being matched with high-level and even Prestige level players.

Some PC users with Belkin routers are still having trouble connecting, but Belkin offered a workaround that's less expensive than "buy a new router."

If you encounter any problems with Titanfall, let us know in the comments or on Joystiq's Twitter or Facebook accounts (use the hashtag #sos and don't forget to specify your platform!).

In theory I’m working with someone to make a game in Unity, but I’ve yet to progress past the “very long Word documents with overwritten design ideas” stage myself. However, at some point I fully intend to fiddle under the hood to some degree, and as such today’s news of a big old update to Unity is going to affect me at some point. For now though, I’m not the best person to ask about quite why the newly-announced Unity 5 is quite so exciting, but judging from how the throngs of developers took a break from hard drinking and massed backslapping at GDC to light up Twitter with breathless wonder at the listed features for this increasingly ubiquitous game engine, it appears to be one hell of a big deal in devland.

From a games-player point of view, this is very likely to shape a lot of the indie games (big and small) that we’ll be playing over the next couple of years. As far as I can tell, two of the most promising additions are heightened visual spangliness and – potentially – running games in browser without the need for a plugin.

Question: When is a plane not a plane? Answer: When it's a UFO firing a laser, or a kamikaze ballerina, or a floating brick propelled by bullets, or a nuclear-equipped mecha-dolphin, or, or, or. Shorter answer: When it's in Luftrausers, where a sense of acrobatic grace and colossal amounts of customization are king.

Luftrausers is the updated version of Vlambeer's Luftrauser, a free arcade shooter in which players fly the unfriendly skies and attempt to take out as many fighter planes and boats as they can before meeting their inevitable demise. The two games share the same control scheme - up to boost, left and right to rotate, X to fire - but beyond that, the upgrades make Luftrausers feel totally distinct.

You'll begin Luftrausers as a simple fighter plane - you have a basic machine gun, a healthy frame, and a not-too-fast, not-too-slow engine. You'll launch from the deck of a submarine and engage in dogfights to take out enemy fighter planes, jets, boats, submarines, battleships, laser-spewing ... things, and a blimp so big it fills the screen.

Although it is a game of territorial expansion, the rivals do not attack their opponent using military force. Instead they are using an army of Spies, Assassins and Experts of various kinds (like economy, technology etc.) in order to destabilize the enemy's countries socially, economically, politically and finally to change their governments ideology and attach them in their own political block.
