- dubbed as a flight-based adventure-puzzler
- start off by taking control of a broken-down spaceship on a dangerous planet
- navigate the handicapped ship to safety and avoid any hazards along the way
- the ship will gradually regain its functions and slowly regenerate its abilities
- manually control every element of the spaceship's functions through the GamePad's touch screen
- touch the ignition to activate the ship
- fly around with the dual control sticks
- utilize thrust engines and stabilizers
- switch over to an electric engine, which adds new abilities
- Nifflas is the core designer of the spaceship and all the engines
- very inspired by spaceship games in general, but also movies like Star Trek
- use electrical and fuel engines in different evironments
- one produces heat and one is noisier than the other
- stages are designed to be straightforward and linear affairs
- your goal is to search for the exit
- several puzzles are tied to the ship's abilities
- example: sequences that require aiming with the R button and firing off a beacon to press switches and open doors
- hostile robots will eventually come after you
- scanning the robots will help indicate how far their lasers can reach
- sometimes you'll have to fly through a robot’s line of sight, but detection is avoidable, as long as certain conditions are met
- one robot can detect heat, so lowering the ship's thrusters and setting the stabilizers to their lowest setting makes sure it can't see you
- due out later this year

Please Be Nice is a crazy idea that some Dutch students came up with last week . The idea: make a game that gets changed by the players. Only a week in, they've already made over 60 versions, and we've got a video of the results.Read more...

A portion of a Nintendo Life interview with Triforce...

NL: Can you tell us about your Guinness World Record? Are you officially retired from waiting in line now?

T: For all my efforts Guinness, Nintendo and Twin Galaxies even awarded me the Guinness World Record for being 1st for the most launch parties for Nintendo videogames, which is at 8. The Nintendo Wii U was my last launch because it was time for me to shift gears in gaming and get more involved, along with a lot of other things that was changing in my life which would leave me with not enough time to hold the line. I had originally stopped after I got the world record from Nintendo but I decided to do just one more launch and what better way to end it than on the Nintendo Wii U.

Lufrausers sales outstripped the game's budget within days, making its two-and-a-half year development cycle a swiftly profitable one for developer Vlambeer.

Let's not forget, it's been a bit of a journey for Luftrausers: The arcade shooter was yet another Vlambeer game to be opportunistically cloned before release, leading the two-man team to start live-streaming its development process in a bid to make clear they had their ideas first. Oh, and co-founder Rami Ismail even lost his backpack at last year's E3, which contained "pretty much my entire company" in his words, although he had everything he needed backed up. Still, maybe the Ridiculous Fishing studio should ironically name its next game Plain Sailing.

Luftrausers is out now on PS3, Vita, Windows PC, Mac and Linux, and we gave it a sky-high four-and-a-half stars in our review this week. In the words of Sam Prell, "even at its most infuriating, it's hard to stay mad at Luftrausers. The sense of flight and weightlessness is as intoxicating as the build-what-you-want nature of the game's war machines. And besides, dying is just an excuse to try out a new combo of parts, and I'm mighty curious to see how an armored, cannon-firing airplane with an underwater engine would handle." [Image: Vlambeer]

Hello, roving pile of RPS readers. Have you seen GDC day three laying about? I appear to have misplaced it. Or perhaps I am Gabe Newell, and I simply willed the number three out of existence or at least ignored it until it got bored and went away. Regardless, we’ve returned in style for day four, by which I mean we gracelessly crammed as many interesting humans onto John’s hotel bed as possible. This time around guests include Ashly and Anthony Burch of Hey Ash Whatcha Playin/Borderlands/infinity other things fame, Towerfall creator Matt Thorson, ever-handsome journo/Maia writer Paul Dean, Harmonix vet and Fire Hose talky man Sean Baptiste, and more still. They join John, Hayden, and I to discuss GDC’s overwhelmingly powerful #1ReasonToBe panel, the equally impactful Lost Levels “unconference,” the creeping toll constant layoffs are taking on the gaming industry, the new Arrowhead-developed Gauntlet game, the absurdly delightful Night In The Woods, and tons more. This is quite an episode! Tune in below.
