Probably the best thing about these videos from GameSocietyPimps is that everyone involved is such a good sport. Often these "character plays a multiplayer first-person shooter" pranks lean toward the cruder side, but this impression artist stays in fairly true character. Trials Frontier, one of the two upcoming games in the motorcycle-flipping series from developer RedLynx, will launch April 10 on iOS. The mobile entry in the series will roll to Android at a later, undisclosed date.

Being the first Trials game on iOS and Android isn't Frontier's only departure for RedLynx, as the game is also set in a futuristic wild-west environment "after the fall of the Trials Fusion universe." Players unlock small villages that are all that remain of civilization in Frontier as well as new motorcycles, characters and upgrades for their bikes. Those that connect the game with Trials Fusion will receive bonus gear as well.

Trials Frontier was first announced during publisher Ubisoft's E3 2013 press conference alongside Trials Fusion. Fusion is slated to launch April 16 on PC and entered a closed beta phase late last week. [Image: Ubisoft]

The track list for Harmonix's Fantasia: Music Evolved has expanded again, this time leaning a bit more heavily on modern music. New songs that will be featured in Kinect rhythm game include David Bowie's "Ziggy Stardust," Nicky Minaj's "Superbass," The White Stripes' "Seven Nation Army" and Lorde's ubiquitous "Royals." Classical music fans will also be happy to know that Anotonin Dvorak's "Symphony No. 9 from the New World" has also made the cut (now you can associate it with something other than Asura's Wrath).

We got to spend some time with Fantasia at GDC, and we enjoyed every minute of it.

Gnah! is a puzzle game about the inside of heads. If it were set inside my head, currently all you’d find would be a picture of a dog dressed as a unicorn, and fresh memories of the Seven Of Nine episodes of Star Trek: Voyager. Alas, it actually takes place inside heads rendered by crisp, graphic illustrations, and is about unlocking progress by alternately poking at each head’s eyeballs and flicking its internal light switches.

Yeah, I don’t really understand it fully, but a short teaser trailer and more screenshots await inside.

Well, it’s been quite a rollercoaster for us at Roll7 over the last few months!

Our submission process last year was pretty hardcore, with many a pizza-stained late night at our Deptford HQ, London. The team was pretty much broken by the time OlliOlli came out. We had broken down everything that was ‘wrong’ about the game to such an extent that we had managed to successfully convince ourselves that the game would most likely be a flop, a mediocre launch at best…

What we were met with on the 21st and 22nd of January this year genuinely knocked us sideways. There was media frenzy for days, amazing review scores and most of all gamers, real people (not testers or our friends) were playing the game and enjoying it.

13294863475_2b0a8a87e4_z.jpg

There were numerous late-night emotional drinking sessions in central London as we essentially came to the realisation that we were a ‘proper’ studio with a hit game – it has still not properly sunk in for most of us!

The BIG moment was almost fate-like. We were out doing a belated wrap party on the project at our local in New Cross and at about 10pm (after many rounds of tequila) we found out via Twitter that we had won the GameSpot Game of the Month for January. Let’s just say that there were a few teary eyes by midnight — it was a career highlight, and an evening none of us will ever forget.

13294863575_8e1d9c027a.jpg13294863465_e59eb88a42.jpg

We met with Shahid and Spencer who run the strategic content team at SCEE, and they recommended that we get the game onto PS4 and PS3 – so that’s what we are doing! We have partnered with BlitWorks, who are based in Barcelona, Spain. We already have a first playable version up and running on PS4 and a big screen — it’s like our little OlliOlli grew up and got some balls! Really feels amazing on DualShock, too.

Such exciting news deserves a big manly jump on a hill…

OlliOlli will remain a PS Vita exclusive until summer 2014, and Roll7 is very close to fixing the crash bug that some players are experiencing. When that patch is released, we’ll bundle in a nice little update that should put a smile on people’s faces.

If you are UK-based, and you fancy getting your hands on OlliOlli and having a chat with us, you can find us at Rezzed, Birmingham (March 28th – 30th).

Check out our OlliOlli Development Video to get more of an insight into Roll7 studio life, and follow us on Twitter for all the latest. Keep it Indie, and keep it Sony in 2014!

We haven't been shy about praising Harmonix's Fantasia: Music Evolved thus far. Based on our experience with it at GDC 2014 last week, that's not likely to change anytime soon. We tried the latest version of Fantasia, running on Xbox One, and the Kinect-powered experience was delightful from top to bottom.

Whether you're intuitively creating your own synthesizer solo in "Ziggy Stardust" or ringing bells hanging from the horns of a giant stag - no, really - the level of creativity and craftsmanship on display is always apparent. You can witness the magical madness yourself in our video preview.

Fantasia: Music Evolved, is slated to arrive this year on Xbox 360 and Xbox One.

GIFs aren’t only the internet’s favourite medium for sharing slapstick animals. They’re also a tool for democratising promotion and marketing. Can’t afford the time or money necessary to edit together a slick trailer? Don’t worry, a three-second GIF may better convey what’s smart, cool and interesting about your game.

Or if your game doesn’t have animation just write really long posts detailing the making of it anyway. Whatever. DEVLOG WATCH GO.

Today’s Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn post is especially interesting for those of you that have never played a subscription MMO before, as well as those of you who wonder if a monthly subscription is really for you.

When you buy a single-player game, the expectation is usually the same. Buy the game for the full price, and some DLC will follow. Final Fantasy XIV is fundamentally different, as it’s an MMO that will run for years.

With Final Fantasy XIV, your subscription fee will guarantee you regular content updates throughout the lifetime of the game. The first update hit last December with Patch 2.1: A Realm Awoken, and we’ve just launched the feature site for Patch 2.2: Through the Maelstrom.

12994388854_50bf6b5316_z.jpg

Just a few features (not even all) that will have been added to the original game with 2.1 and 2.2 updates:

  • New Main Scenario Quests, continuing your story
  • Two new raids
  • Housing
  • New Dungeons
  • New Dungeon Hard Modes
  • New primals to fight: Leviathan and Good King Moggle-Mog XII
  • A new difficulty for primal fights, Extreme Mode
  • Player versus Player Combat
  • Treasure Hunts
  • New factions (Beast Tribes) with Daily Quests
  • Tons upon tons of new quests of all kinds
  • New customization options for your characters
  • Tons of optimizations and new features for the game

…and the list goes on and on (honestly, it does — you can check out the patch notes for Update 2.1 here). There’s something in it for everyone — no matter if you like to casually make your way through the game, or if you’re a hardcore, endgame raider. And remember: all of that for the subscription fee starting at $12.99, no PlayStation Plus required.

But it doesn’t end there; we’ve got a lot of stuff planned for the future. You’ve learned by now that there’s housing — how about having a basement in your house where you and your mates can build your own airship? Awesome, right?

This is what you get for your subscription: a world that will constantly evolve and expand, for years and years to come. If you want to have a go at it, remember that our second PS4 beta phase will take place from April 4th to the 7th (and yes, you’ll be able to carry characters created during beta 2 into the final game). We’re launching on April 14th, and if you want in, feel free to pre-order now.

Looking forward to seeing you all in Eorzea!

Rumours that Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft all sat around a campfire during GDC, toasting marshmallows and singing Kumbayah are entirely false. From a distance, the merry folk troubadours might have looked like the creators and purveyors of generational gaming devices, but closer inspection revealed an entirely different picture. Microsoft were there, yes, represented by Microsoft supremo Phil Spencer (not Kirstie Allsopp’s chum). But the other figures were animatronic effigies, constructs of cloth and straw vaguely resembling PC gaming’s past and future. One of them distinctly resembled Gabe Newell and Spencer applauded his every move.
